Someone told me that it was dead, as much of the action due to the cleaining-up effort of the Singapore authorities.
I am happy to learn that it is not true and it is still active. So I hope for the street action in Geylang.
There is too much difference for me between the cost/benefit ratios of Singapore and Batam. It has been a few years that I don't even stop over in Singapore. I land, or I cross the border with Malaysia, and I go straight to Harbour Front to take the ferry. Unbeatable Batam for me.

I am not sure I understood what you mean with "hang out" and what you like to do. If it is just sitting and drinking or eating at any time of the night, in Nagoya I know:
- McD and KFC
- Santaria (Siang Malam) 200 m from Formosa (with good Wifi)
- the food court of Newton
