-- Scientific and peaceful measures are needed to protect the East Vietnam Sea from the threats of pollution, resource exhaustion, and maritime disputes, experts said at a conference in the southern beach city of Nha Trang on Monday on cooperation in the waterway for regional security and prosperity.

-- Da Nang City’s chairman Huynh Duc Tho on Monday reassured the public that a plan to build a cable car to the peak of the Son Tra Nature Reserve is only an idea and has not been approved by the city’s administration.
-- Diabetic patients account for six percent of the Vietnamese population, while 65 percent of those with diabetes in the country have not been diagnosed, according to Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long.
-- Three more cases of Zika virus contraction have been reported in Ho Chi Minh City, raising the total Zika patients in the city to 38, Nguyen Huu Hung, deputy director of the municipal Department of Health, said on Monday afternoon at a meeting chaired by the local administration.

-- Cysteamine, a type of growth hormone that has been found to be a cause of cancer when consumed in large amounts, has been banned from use in raising livestock by Vietnam’s Department of Livestock Production under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
-- Dr. Le Trinh, deputy chairman of the Vietnam Council for Environmental Impact Evaluation, has asked for the revocation of the operation permit of Dai Duong Paper Mill in Tien Giang Province over pollution concerns, in a heartfelt letter sent to the provincial administration.
