Places may open and close, girls may come and go, but the environment is always the same (except the obnoxious increase of prices and of tourism, consistently over the last 10 years).
Read reports and experiences of people, learn from their mistakes, see what they achieved, and aim at getting some of that, without minding much if those stories are years old. Of course, don't focus on specific places or girls, because you may not find today what was main spot years ago (ahem... where's Permata Indah??

Personally, I am still doing basically the same I was doing 5 years ago (duly reported in long reports), except that the girls are not the same, and good and bad meetings alternate over the time. My daily routine is still the same.
My advice is to NOT OVERPLAN. It makes no sense, in my personal view, to prepare all details, the list of places to go, the list of things to do, etc.
Improvisation, flexibility, ability to catch good opportunities when they show up suddenly, ability to choose the bests option when you have the chance to choose between two alternate paths, are the key to make your stay enjoyable.
You want to book a girl? Read here and make a list of places, the prices people pays, but then hire a good ojek or taxi driver and ask him to take you to a LONG tour. Don't pick before having seen many places.
You want massage with special? Read here for a list of places and areas, then go and don't be stressed about "is this the best place?". There is no the "best place", but a wide range of possibilities, and good and bad luck.
You like pubs? Just go and do your "bar hopping". It's cheap.
Don't aim too high on your first visit, but extend progressively the scope of your explorations. For example, I would not recommend to take a girl from wechat or go to disco on your first time.
