Bro, with the whole family in such hopeless state, do you think that the mother is sensible? the probability of that is very low.
As for being broke, don't believe totally. I used to believe that my mother in law is broke, then i later discovered that she has so many pieces of land under her name and has a lump sum of cash. Looking poor is just a way for them to ask for more money from their innocent foreigner son-in-law .
