There are indeed some salient points on both sides of the isle, and I believe that some parts of the video convey the truth. I did some research into the issue and i am appalled at some of the things that are happening. There is a lot of money and corporate greed involved in this hiv/aids issue. A lot are truths, some are half truths. What is definitely true is that hiv treatment is immensely lucrative(medicine costing dollars are selling for $1500 in singapore). To start treatment, one has to get a positive test result first, and to get a positive result one must first go for test. It may be really true that ARV medicine is not totally what is propounded. Even if it really prolongs your life, you will spend your entire life benefitting the large pharmaceutical companies and satisfying corporate greed. I know of people who dont even wish to seek treatment for cancer. A doctor i knew just died from cancer. He told me his sickness is fatal, instead of prolonging his life and being in agony most of the time, he would rather leave the money to his family. The reason is these illnesses are fatal, you will die eventually. When you said about seeking treatment early, you wont have complications is a half truth. The truth is eventually you will get very sick, whether you take the medicine or not. It is inevitable. We have the money to host F1, host IMF, pay our president close to $4000000, but we simply cant afford to subsidise HIV medication. Check the statistics, the people going for the HIV test are really not that many. This is because they know in Singapore you can die, but never get sick. This mindset is difficult to change. The solution to the problem is not to encourage more people to go for tests, but rather how to make medicine more affordable so that people will not hesistate to go for the test. AFA can help some people with ARV medication but definitely not all.
There are many many people who are against providing cheaper ARVs because they think people who get AIDS deserve it. Afterall, the common perception is that people who get AIDS are all immoral homosexuals, prostitutes and people who use prostitutes.

mic1838, what would you do in such a situation? what would you do to change the perceptions of people?

Next question, Mic1838, have you ever encountered a person who is living with HIV?
