I went to Ha Long a few times on mostly business trip and once I took the Emerlad cruise run by French to the bay for an overnight trip. The Emerlad do have good food on board but the scenery is so so lah.. lots of rock formation in the bay, just like Guilin of China. As for the night life there, I think it is pretty much non existence. But there are many Korean tourist there and there are also many foot massage there too.
Since you go up there, might as well visit Hue and Hoi An as well via Danang. Quiet an interesting place but don't compare it with China majestic palaces hor..
