I remember i used to have a neighbour at PMH, Q7. She's married to a taiwanese man and has a daughter. Her husband always ask her to learn mandarin. So my wife recommended her a good chinese teacher. The fee is cheap, at only 400K a month, 3 times a week. But in order to get more money from her husband, she told her husband its 1 million VND a month. After she learn for 4 months, she stopped, but still tell her husband she still learning. For a small family of only 3, her husband gave her 3 million VND a month for food, she go buy the cheapest things and she told my wife she save around 1 million VND a month. She save all these money to give to her mother, who is a greedy old lady (typical of most vietnamese old ladies in the province who make the daughter work as hooker to feed the whole family). Her husband still give her mother around 2 million VND a month.

This is the reason why i have tight control of my family finances. I let my wife spend on good food, clothes, cosmetics etc and i send just a small token to her parents each month. I remember when i sold my first property for a neat profit some years back, my wife keep saying she wants me to give her half the amount and told me not to control her on spending that. I told her NO. I explain to her we need to save for our children's education as its not cheap. So we started a joint account and saved the money in there. After that, she understands. Now after a few properties, we save te profit in the same account.

So its always good to explain to your wife about life here in Singapore, and if have kids, the amount needed to send the kids thru university. they will understand. Communication is very important
