the difference between bali n Batam is that batam is a industrial pulau where 10ton lorry and long trailer rules the road...laws n regulations in batam are very different from sillypore..veh insurance is an option here.doctors n medication are cheap...a 'guided' tour of batam is definately safer than 'free n easy'.there are certainly places to explore in batam but if you insist on renting a bike...what about purchasing a used-one??they are pretty cheap abt 4-6jt(2-3yrs old).just remember to get your int'l license..
