but the worst thing i think is they like to laugh/look down on ppl whom they think is inferior to them...

FACE is very impt to Vietnamese. Let me cite an example, not too long ago, my MIL was looking for a wife for my youngest BIL. The gal's family choose my BIL because they know my wife married me (a foreigner) and also my wife's eldest sister is in the USA. To add on, this youngest BIL will inherit all the land that my MIL. has (vietnamese pass all their fortune to their YOUNGEST son, not oldest) On the day of wedding, you will think that my MIL is damm loaded. The amount of money she spent is crazy for a province wedding. The gold + cash + gift etc. At that time, i told my wife `your mother is SUPPOSED to be POOR... but judging from how she spends on this wedding, you think she is POOR?' after that, i found out that my MIL spent nearly US$20K on the wedding, all these for the sake of FACE. After the wedding, my MIL started to tell my wife she's BROKE, she's POOR etc etc. Even my wife doesn't believe her now. My earlier example of my SIL building the modern house in the village is another example. Bathtub and aircon for what? She has money to pay for electricity? forget it, all these for the sake of FACE.
