If you know Chinese, it's easier for you to study Vnmese. The 2 languages share almost the same grammar and quite a number of words similar in pronunciation (as well as meaning) .

i still remember the 1st time i went to HCM... the manager of the hotel i stayed in can spk mandarin and cantonese fluently....
i know the singlish vs of loi hai - powderful...(guess this is one of the few meanings)...
