No problems leh, maybe perhaps different route as you mentioned.

Tat explained why u took 7-8 hrs to reach yur bg's hometown.
5 hrs to LX, the 2 hrs to Tri Ton.

Same for me, 5 hrs to LX, 1-2 hrs to my in-laws place in Thoai Son(another direction). but i travel to my in laws place after i settled down in LX. so its separate trip is still ok.
