I think what she said was also correct, but you emphasized too much on the "till complete" part when you translated it.
In fact, "ráng" is only used in the South. In the North, people use "cố gắng", so basically these two words have the same meaning.
As for "nan", I think "laziness" is also a type of thinking issue ma. But if you like, you can translate it as "reluctant" . It is probably more precise. I translated it as "lazy" simply because it sound like 懶 in Chinese
