17 – in order to – để

Để means “to”, “in order to”. It is used to show the purpose of an action.

subject + verb + để + verb

Tôi học tiếng Việt để nói chuyện với người yêu
I study Vietnamese to talk to my love

người yêu means person I love (ie. boyfriend or girlfriend) but it’s gender-neutral like spouse (vs. husband & wife)

Dùng để means “to be used for (the purpose of)”:

object + dùng để + verb (purpose)

Máy tính dùng để làm việc và giải trí
Computer is used for work and entertainment

Giấy dùng để viết và vẽ
Paper is used for writing and drawing
