Police in Ho Chi Minh City Monday arrested a man who allegedly stole a laptop and fatally stabbed its owner besides injuring a police officer who chased after him.

It happened when Cao Xuan Lap, 28, grabbed a laptop from 22-year-old Hoang Ngoc Tri in broad daylight in Tan Binh District.

When Tri chased after him and crashed his motorbike into Lap’s, the robber attacked him with a knife.

Police said Tri collapsed after being stabbed in his chest and stomach, and succumbed in hospital later the same day.

After the attack, Lap dropped his bike and fled into an alley.

But he was pursued by Vo Si Hoang, 33, a police officer in Tan Phu District, who had been passing by.

He proceeded to stab the cop in his arms and face, the police said.

Lap then continued to flee, threatening a passer-by to grab his motorbike. But when he was about to flee on the bike, 31-year-old Cat Van Thuan, another passer-by, crashed his bike into Lap’s.

Thuan and some others managed to grab Lap, the police said, adding that Hoang, despite being injured, joined them.

Lap's captors proceeded to beat him unconscious, they said.

Hoang was taken to the nearby My Duc Hospital, where his condition has stabilized.

Lap has been taken into custody for questioning.

The police are investigating.

Did any of you guys notice and wonder why the final sentence is "The Police are investigating."????

This is very common in Vietnam, where the story could almost play out as an exciting climax of a hollywood triller movie and who is the bad guy and who is the good guy is made obvious beyond any reasonable doubt, so clear that even a retarded person could tell who is the bad guy... but in the end... the Police still not too sure and so they are "still investigating"....

If such a similar report is made in Singapore, the last sentence would be "And the robber has been charge with armed robbery and attempted manslaughter and is now detain at Chinatown police station waiting to be charge in Court next Monday at 10am, no bail allowed."

But the Vietnamese Police are usually more clever... probably they suspect that the robber was actually being setup by the Victim instead... so it is highly possible that the Victim is actually the robber and the robber is actually the victim, and the passer-by could be a rival of the robber (who is now suspected to be the victim) who happens to pass by and saw the opportunity to get even....

Basically, white can become black and black can become white, depending on the size of the white envelop.
