Hunan and Sichuan are not northern-china.
BTW, among the PRCs working in spore's food courts/coffeeshops, the Fujian PRCs are still the most, especially those PRCs selling Ban Mian or Pig's intestine soup, almost 9 out of 10 are Fujian PRCs..........Sometimes they hire a few shandong dishwashers/cleaners but the Fujian PRCs still outnumber the shandong PRCs in the foodcourts

Since when has the forum become a social science discussion board
It's difficult to estimate the origins of the Chinese transient population here. Random sampling may work, but such studies have been both limited in scope and uninteresting in nature.
That being said, regional discrimination has long been a tradition back in China. The affluent regions (Beijing, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Guangdong, Shenzhen.. etc) are always attracting labors from poorer provinces, notably Dongbei & Sichuan. Singapore is but an extension to that tradition. It's also worth noting that the defamatory name "foreign labors" now includes an array of highly educated and skilled (does SM count as a skill?

) workers, many of them obtaining higher degrees and speaking fair English.
As with many metropolitan areas, Singapore will ultimately become a cultural melting pot, embracing different cultures in a open and flexible framework. As long as they delivered the service, what else could matter?
