KTV type bars only - no fish tank like Tobita shinchi ((飛田遊廓) in Osaka.
Between the Hakata train station and Tenjin shopping area is the island Nakasu. About 600 m long and 200 m wide. Not so obvious on Google streetview, but it lights up at night. KTVs every 5 feet. There will be guys standing outside the KTVs asking you to come into their place. They must think I look Japanese and approached me every time. I think will be like KTVs here, buy drinks and talk cock sing song. Suspect will need a bit more than basic Japanese to get the most out of it.
Did not try as was with colleagues - actually as in most places in the world - the great drinking bars are all there.
