Re: Free HIV Testing
The short answer is yes. There are financial subsidies for needy people. AfA is actually not the only organization giving these subsidies and assistance.
You shouldn't just focus on the $1000 and use that as an excuse to choose to be ignorant. Remember, its not just about you, its about your loved ones, its about your whole life. Choosing to be ignorant is like being an ostrich sticking its head in the sand, pretending nothing is wrong, when actually everything is getting worse. For example, you could be infecting other people, can you live with that? And if you wait till the end stage and develop AIDS you could be so severely sick that you wipe out even more of your savings, and burden other people to have to take care of you. There's definitely light at the end of the tunnel. You just need to be realistic, and be brave enough make the right choices. Anyways, getting a HIV test helps you to get a peace of mind.

Who doesn't get sick really and who doesn't die end of the day? Basically it is pure survival , who doesn't want to live their life to the fullest. Seriously everything in this world has its determinants and nobody wants to be a saint and tell you they are doing it form humanitarian reason. Just like the doctor you were referring to.....he basically value $$ on top of everything. His family needs him and not his $$$. What we human need is kinship and love and this is far greater than $$$. btw if you are not happy about the president or minister getting so much money , you will need to vote them out. The problem is we singaporean spend so much time KPKB and yet end of the day , we do nothing about it. End of the day, what afa brother wants to advocate is to promote awareness - to promote safety procedures as well as telling the world that having HIV is not the end of the world. We need to teach our society to be gracious and accept people with this disease and not to view them with discrimination. there are a miliion of other way to die and AIDS is just one of them COnclusion - just be cautious and protect yourself and people around you. Ignorance and living in fear of getting the disease will kill you faster than the disease itself. I have been thru this myself and especially when Im very ill and begin to think that I have contracted it. Without the test, i wouldn't have a peace of mind ...... |

mic1838, what would you do in such a situation? what would you do to change the perceptions of people? Next question, Mic1838, have you ever encountered a person who is living with HIV?

Re: Free HIV Testing
Many thanks for this free testing coupon AfA!
I went to the AfA test for a few occasions in the past. I observed something which I am curious to know if they make any difference in the testing result. 1) some volunteers at the blood sample taking room didn't wipe away the first drop of blood with a sterile gauze pad. Will this affect the result at all? 2) Some volunteers didn't dispose the Lancet into the waste container immediately (at least until I stepped out the room). My question is: are those lancets designed to prevent re-using? 3) It is said that the test result will be ready at least 15 minutes, could 8 or 10 mintues be good enough? I was once called in only 8 mintues after taking the test. thanks for all your reply! Quote:

Re: Free HIV Testing
Dear PhillyRicky, you've always been asking the same questions about accuracy and safety, and the answers to your questions haven't changed. Just a suggestion, maybe you want to give OraQuick a try?

Re: Free HIV Testing
Afa_hmor - thanks for your reply. I read from another thread there also happened to be some faulty lancet in the past. There are two possibility of that faulty lancet: 1) it's really a faulty one 2) if the lancet used at AFA site is so called safety lancet in the market, it does a job to prevent the 2nd usage, i.e., you only hear one click sound. In this case, even if it was a used one, it did its job to prevent 2nd time usage.
Of course, like you said and we all believe, AFA site testing is a clinic setting, all used lancets are disposed into the sharp container. However, Could you please let all the worry-soul know if the lancet used there is designed for one-time usage only (i.e. safety lancet with a single puncture mode)? thanks again and you have really done a great job in connecting here with sound educations! Cheers! Last edited by phillyricky; 26-10-2008 at 02:03 AM. |

(1) Dr Jay Medical Centre at 115 Killiney Road; (2) Dr Soh Family Clinic at Block 966 Jurong West St 93; (3) M Lam Clinic at 739 Geylang Road ; and (4) Robertson Medical Practice at Robertson Walk. Currently, only three clinics – Anteh Dispensary, Cambridge Clinic and the Action for AIDS Anonymous HIV Testing and Counselling Clinic – offer anonymous HIV testing. To encourage more at-risk individuals to go for early HIV testing, MOH is adding four private clinics to its current list of anonymous HIV testing clinics. These clinics will offer anonymous testing from Saturday, November 1 2008.
