Heard that AFA is now offering oral test for HIV on Tuesday. Is it truth

read from somewhere (can't remember specifically) that in Singapore, people voluntarily testing for HIV is on the rise, which I think is good. No harm testing also.

It is always better to do the longer test though the quick test (half hour result is 99.9% accurate) ... better go for voluntary test ... early detection, can stop it from getting worse though not cure it ... so cheongsters, whether wear cap or not, should go for regular test

I know AFA does monitor this forum. I did an oral test today at Cambridge. Results negative as usual. I'm curious. I read here that the oral test is 96% accurate. The doctor at Cambridge told me oral test is 99.8% accurate. Which figure is correct? So if oral test is 99.8% accurate, why do we bother with blood test?

Oraquick is relatively new. Have to see how it goes before any decision is made on which test is better.

According to BASSH document at AFA website, it stated that oral fluid conclusive after 16 weeks compare to any blood test. Is that statement still valid?

afa_hmor, the oral test is supposed to put the kit into our upper gums and swipe from any direction right? Than repeat it for the lower gums. My question is do we need to touch the gums when doing it ? or its just collecting the saliva for the test?

Actually, you are not supposed to do it yourself. The trained doctor is the best person to conduct this test. You can buy the oral kit? Collect saliva sure touch the gums right?

i did the test at dsc and the nurse told me to do it myself. hmm

The value of this thread is that now more cheongsters know about this. I didn't know DSC had Oral tests, but now I do after reading this thread. Knowledge is power. Power to decide if you wanna go for it, that is.

I still think for peace of mind ... should go for the longer test ... at least you know for sure no hv infection
