After my 1st term contract with the Arm Forces, I decided to have a switch in my career path… looking for a new career in the private sector.. few options were available ranging from personal trainer in a gym to personal driver cum body guard cum butler for a wealthy Russian businessman here in Singapore.

As my duty in the force requires special skills and very physically demanding, I acquired a physique that most men would dream of and proud enough to say… I do usually attract attention from both sexes..

Things took a change when I was invited by SPTI to take up a temp job as Psychical Training Instructor in a local college. I was invited both by the school and SPTI to bring a group of problematic students up for a field camp, (something like OBS) and for this trip..but before that, the college invited me to start my assignement with them ealier so that their students can get along with me better during the field trip...

The college was well known for delinquents commonly known as Ah Bengs and Ah Sengs or Ah Lians and Ah Huays… The previous PT instructor was badly bullied by these students and they really need a hard man like me to manage this trip..

So, I reported to the college on a fine Tuesday morning… Went in straight to the principal’s office to report and was given a good briefing about what is the school’s expectation from me and what I should expect from the students.. Being hardened up by years of operational readiness, strong disciplinary, regimental lifestyle and my military training skill, I though I was ready for anything and yet I was wrong…

The first group of students that I met was through the introduction by Mrs Pereira.. I was being introduced as Brandon to a group of students who are being punished to stay back after school for disciplinary reasons..

Students giving me unfriendly stares and could hear very feint boos mixed with unwelcome remarks murmured… But I am glad that I at least I heard giggles among a group of girls coming from right at the end of the detention class.


Me: Hello everyone! My name is Brandon, Brandon Lee. You guys can call me Brandon and I am looking forward for a good 3 weeks with everyone in the college.

Mrs Pereira: Ok. I shall leave Brandon with the class for 30mins so that he can have a private moment with everyone here.

She tapped my back and walked off.. Being accustomed and used to speaking to a big group of youths, I have no fear or shyness.. I started to introduce myself to the class.


Before I could open my mouth, I heard some guy shouted from a group.. ‘Ooi! You dun look like a teacher leh, what you doing here and why are you here?!’

Me: Urm.. Ok, lets put it this way, I am out of job and I got an offer to be here. To provide some kind of character building camp during your school holidays. I am not too old so just call me Brandon will do.. I just ended my contact with the Army and I am temporarily here to help out MOE..

‘ U look handsome leh...Look more like an actor leh!!’ One of the gals shouted from the back..

Me: Ur…Ok. I shall take that as a compliment then. Ok… Let us get to know this class better.. Starting from this corner..

So the class started to do some lame self introduction and a few young ladies did caught my attention.. Especially this young lady with a long pony tail.. She does not look like a bad student at all but I wondered why were she in this detention class..

Me: Ok guys… I was a student before like everyone else here, I had my fair share of punishment by the school. I almost burst out my own laughter… But I had to respect her rights… I just looked away and pointed to another group of guys..

Things went on ok except that a few funny stares from a few characters in the class…

30 minutes up and Mrs Pereira was back to bring me out… Another teacher took over me and started screaming at the students the moment he steps in…

As we walk, we talked about the students whom I just met…

Mrs P: How you find them?

Me: Hmmm.. I find them ok, not really that bad but it take time for me to cater something unique for them this trip.. A few real problem characters but I should have no problem handling them…

Mrs P: Glad to hear that, take note of a few character like Johnson Lim, Patrick Tan and a few more names which I will give you later.. They are abit violent and was often seen hanging around with gangs..

Me: Oh wow… That’s interesting.. Thanks for informing.

We walked and the day ended with nothing much except that I had tea with the MILF (Mrs Pereira) and had a few glance from some SYTs in the school canteen..

My official duty starts on the next day, being assigned to a few more colleagues who were from SPTI, we shared knowledge on some training programs for students and I assisted in the warming up of the classes..

Joined them for runs and share some pre and post exercise stretching… I enjoyed the attention given to me because most of these late teens admired my well toned body.. Not only that, I get to see SYTs in both their PT and proper school attire.. Its a pity that most of these young ladies wear shorts under their school skirts.. So the only chance I could identify for ZG is only during PT lessons.

The lesson ended and we warmed down… Paying strict attention to the student’s well being.. I walked around them while my other colleague conducts the warm down.. I walked among them and help them with correct postures.

No idea what it was and what it is suppose to be, I ignored it until I am alone.. I took the slip of paper out and it was written..

I laughed and chuck the piece of paper into the dustbin…
