Its not courage but its also hard to say what it is. It takes a lot of confidence in yourself, your partner and the relationship to take that step.

When two person get together, there is an element of possession i.e you both become exclusive to each other. But when you allow each other to be intimate with other people, there is liberation. To achieve this level of liberation you both need to have a lot of trust.
