FYI, Merchant Court Hotel had change name to Swissotel. I stayed there before & it is definitely good. They charge 800B to bring girl back. But I think you can save the 800B if you bring the girl back around evening time as they do not check at that time.

Doh! And I thought I did my research! Maybe this could be prevented if I've not dropped my key card off at the Recep. You can carry it with you. Sigh...
I had a different experience recently. I booked a double room when they told me the rate is the same as for single. When my girlfriend arrived later the bellboy tried to stop us from going up even though I told him I have a double room. Felt rather pissed off, as my already shy gf felt a little embarasseed. I went straight to the reception and demanded an explanation. What is the point of my booking a double room if I have to sign in my girlfriend (name already registered too). Ended up the duty manager came out to apologise and sent us up personally. Then later send us a fruit basket to make up - at least we felt better.

Moral of the story - sometimes the noisiest gear gets the oil.

I recently paid 1400Baht for a double room (just before Chinese New Year) at Siam Beverly, since the recep claimed single room cost the same. Comes with breakfast for 2 as well. I was a Walk-in Guest somemore

Initial quote was 1700Baht, but I bargain down to 1400B, after trying unsucessfully at 1300B. They started lowering the price when I pretended to be annoyed and ask why are they trying to rip me off? Haha, speaking Thai certainly helps. They were kinda surprised when I later produced my SG passport, but too late They had already agreed to 1400B with breakfast for 2.

Too bad breakfast nothing much to shout about.

Perhaps u would like to book thru s'pore tour agent. Rates for single is $45 and $51 for twin respectively with breakfast.
Btw, i'm not aware the hotel ask for joiner fees as there wasn't any guard stopping me from bringing gals back 5 months ago. Maybe hotel regulations change

thks for the update. Siam Beverly has a good location......about 5min walk to the Huay Hwang Stn thru exit1/2. Would prefer to put up at Emerald hotel but the joiner fee do let me have a second thought otherwise it is good hotel with a reasonable room rates at $70-75 .

I booked through the website too. But paid for a single room at US$19, plus tax is US$23. Maybe that's why got hassled. Also, my girl did not bring IC.
Ok. If there's a next time, gonna book a double room.
Thanks brothers for sharing your experiences. I should learn to be loud against those dumb hotel staff.
