Levy on foreign cars put on hold

PUTRAJAYA : The proposal to impose a RM20 levy on foreign cars entering the country will not be implemented anytime soon.

This is despite the installation of special gantries and electronic equipment at the Causeway and Second Link.

The cabinet decided to defer the implementation of the levy in view of Visit Malaysia Year 2007.

Transport Minister Datuk Seri Chan Kong Choy, who announced this yesterday, did not say how long the postponement would be.

He said tourism was one of the factors which led to the decision to delay the levy.

New JB CIQ complex to open in October 2007

JOHOR BARU : The new Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) complex in Bukit Chagar will open its doors to the public in October 2007 after 18 government agencies move in.

Works Minister Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu said the complex would be handed over to the Government in July 2007.

“The agencies will then have four months to move into the complex from the old CIQ at the Causeway.

“This will be about the same time needed for a temporary access from the CIQ to the Causeway to be completed,” he said after a visit to the CIQ project here yesterday.

Samy Vellu added that the Government had appointed AMPM Sdn Bhd to manage the complex.

He said this company would also assist in the government agencies' move into the complex.

Samy Vellu said the RM1.26bil project was completed on time but additional funds were needed for the building of an eight-lane permanent link between the CIQ and the Causeway.

The link is expected to take 18 months to complete.

“The only delay involved was to the bridge project which has since been cancelled.

“The Government has paid compensation to the company concerned,” he said.

Asked if the cancelled bridge project would now go ahead as the Government had reversed its decisions on the railway double tracking project and the West Coast Highway which will both now be built, Samy Vellu said:

“The Government has decided that there will be no bridge but only a link to the Causeway.

“I cannot dream of such a bengkok (crooked) bridge.”

Hassle-free entry for travellers from S’pore

KOTA TINGGI : Travellers entering Malaysia through Singapore will no longer have to go through two separate Immigration and Customs checks.

All they have to do after getting their travel documents stamped by Immigration officers, is to head straight out to the green lane and not have to contend with hawk-eyed Customs officers scanning their luggage.

But if these travellers think they can get away with smuggling things into Malaysia, they had better think again.

Hidden in the lanes will be state-of-the-art devices that can pick them out from the crowd.

Smugglers will be detected through new security measures that will be a marriage of sophisticated scanners and officers trained in spotting tell-tale signs of suspicious behaviour.

The Rover System, as it is called, would be used at the new Bukit Chagar Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) complex, said Customs director-general Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Abdul Hamid.

Besides easing traffic flow, the new system is expected to reduce the manpower requirements of the department by at least 50 per cent, he said.

The system, which emphasises the use of human intelligence and technology surveillance equipment, has been in use in Europe and the United States for years.

"The Bukit Chagar CIQ is the first among Asean member countries to use the Rover System," Rahman told reporters after visiting the construction site of a new Customs office in Tanjung Surat.

He said that with the new system in place, the department would only have to station 200 officers at the CIQ.

Currently, there are about 300 Customs officers working at the Causeway.

Earlier, Rahman accompanied World Customs Organisation deputy secretary-general Kunio Mikuriya on a tour of the Bukit Chagar CIQ building, which is scheduled to be opened in October 2007.

Mikuriya said he was impressed with the CIQ and hoped the Rover System would reduce clearance time while at the same time ensure the security of the checkpoints.

Another woman gang-raped in JB

JOHOR BARU : A group of men took a couple on a terror ride before raping the woman, the second such case in as many days here.

A 55-year-old contractor and his 35-year-old female friend had stopped at a petrol station along the Pasir Gudang highway at 10.30pm last week.

As he was filling up, three men armed with parang overpowered him and forced both victims into the car.

The assailants took the victims on a one-hour terror ride before stopping at a secluded area along the highway.

As in the case on Monday, the contractor was slashed in the leg when he tried to escape.

With the injured victim watching helplessly, the men took turns to rape the woman before fleeing in another car driven by an accomplice.
The victims lodged a police report after the incident.

On Monday, a 19-year-old girl was raped by three men as her boyfriend watched helplessly in Taman Tampoi Indah.

Their car was rammed into by another car. Three men in the car then abducted the couple. The boyfriend was also slashed in the leg when he tried to escape.

In another incident, a doctor, in her 50s, fell and injured her head after two thieves on a motorcycle snatched her handbag while she was walking to her car in Taman Melody yesterday.

Passers-by who saw the incident caught one of the suspects. He was handed over to the police.

Southern Gateway sees 4.5pc rise in tourist traffic

JOHOR BARU : Malaysia’s Southern Gateway saw a 4.5 per cent rise in tourist traffic in the first quarter, despite Johor’s reputation for being crime-ridden.

Some 6.9 million tourists arrived through the Causeway, the Second Link and the Senai airport here between January and March, said the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (Matta).

The same period last year saw about 6.6 million arrivals, said Matta president Ngiam Foon.

"Today’s tourists understand that there can be no city with a zero crime rate. But it’s important for local authorities to assure tourists of a strong police presence and the general feeling of safety."

Matta was planning to meet local authorities of the country’s main tourist destinations to see how it could help to make tourists feel safer, he added.

The Johor chapter is hoping to join the state government and police on a visit to Singapore to brief tour agents there on plans to reduce crime here, said its chairman Kathryn H.C. Lee.

Ngiam and Lee were speaking after presenting aid to four Matta members affected by the widespread floods in Johor last year. --- KatoeyNewsNetwork

‘Untouchable’ crime kingpin arrested in Johor Baru

JOHOR BARU : A powerful crime lord, involved in organised underworld activities including vice and gaming, was detained here several days ago.

The 55-year-old suspect, previously regarded as an “untouchable,” was arrested by a special team of officers from Bukit Aman under the Anti-Money Laundering Act.

The suspect, who is also widely mentioned in a blog, has since been taken to an undisclosed location in the country to assist in investigations.

It is learnt that the crime lord, described as the head of one of the most powerful syndicates in the country, was arrested under a directive from the Internal Security Ministry.

He was picked up by the team from the commercial crime unit at an undisclosed location here.

Federal commercial crimes director Comm Datuk Ramli Yusuf confirmed the arrest of an underworld figure for money laundering under the Restricted Residence Act.

He declined to elaborate further.

It is learnt that the suspect is being detained under a 60-day detention order, which can be extended up to two to three years through a directive from the Internal Security Minister.

It is learnt that several police reports have also been lodged by family members alleging the arrest was unlawful.

This is the second major arrest in the state involving crime syndicates.

Last month seven suspected Malaysian gang leaders with links to the Singapore underworld, allegedly involved in vice and gaming activities here and across the Causeway, were arrested.

All of them were arrested with the assistance of the Singapore police.
However, one of the seven has since been released.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan recently said that police had identified seven gang leaders who had been terrorising the state with the help of influential people.

He said police were gathering intelligence to either take action against these leaders under preventive laws or to charge them in court.

‘Sa+++ Market’ in JB makes them feel close to home

JOHOR BARU : Home is not too far away for some 45,000 people from Sarawak staying here.

A weekend market which resembles the popular Sa+++ Market in Kuching has been set up in Taman Mega Ria. It sells jungle produce, handicrafts and food that remind a native of the Land of Hornbills of home.

Among others, one can find pucuk paku (jungle ferns), bamboo shoots, sago worms, ikan terubok and salai, pua kumbu (traditional Dayak fabric), kolok mee, as well as Sarawak handicrafts at the market in Jalan Bayan 3/1.

Taman Megah Ria has been known as Kampung Sarawak for over a decade due to its high concentration of those from the state.

The market, set up several weeks ago, has become a magnet, drawing customers between 6am and 10am every Sunday and public holiday.

Set up by the Borneo Hawkers, Traders, Small and Medium Industries Association (Persada Borneo), there are 60 hawkers.

John Chendang, a small-time transport operator here, said he sold pucuk paku, bamboo shoots and sweet potatoes collected from jungles.

"These are items popular among those from Sarawak. My produce is limited as it is not easy to find," said Chendang, from Sri Aman.

Ju Balang’s kolok mee is a crowd-puller. Balang, from Sarikei, is a golf course manager here.

"Kolok mee is a popular dish in Sarawak and I like it a lot. Setting up this stall helps to satisfy my cravings."

Kolok mee is like wanton mee except that it comes without meat dumplings.

The market is usually packed with those from Sabah and Sarawak.

Persada Borneo adviser Mathiew Usun said 25,000 from Sarawk resided in Taman Megah Ria and Kota Masai here, while another 20,000 stayed in the flats in Taman Ungku Tun Aminah in Skudai. They work in Singapore or in Johor Baru.

Factory worker Genis Meriteh, from Sibu, said she frequented the market to buy jungle produce, especially pucuk paku, and ikan terubok.

"These are my favourite food. It is great to find a market here, probably the first of its kind in Johor, selling things similar to markets in Sarawak."

Abet Achoh, a project manager with a petrochemical company, said he would not miss the kolok mee and was sure to bring home several sago worms.

"I also buy bamboo to cook. Whenever I am at the market, I feel like I am in my hometown," said Abet, from Kuching.

Crime rate in Johor decreases

JOHOR BARU : There has been a decrease in the number of crimes in Johor state during the the first six months of this year (2007) compared to January-June of last year (2006).

Acting state police chief Senior Asst Comm I Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said that a total of 15,646 cases were reported this year.

This was a decrease of 1,276 cases or 7.54% compared to the 16,922 cases from January until June last year, he said.

"We are working harder to bring it down even further," he said.

He was speaking after launching the state-level Community Policing and appointing 11 officers from each district who would be the coordinators here on Tuesday.

SAC I Mohd Mokhtar said the 'police-solving rate' has also increased from 40.83% last year to 43.34% this year.

"The crime rate is down due to continuous crime prevention operations and raids against criminal elements in the state.

"We are also thankful to the cooperation from the public to combat crime," he said.

The best weapon to combat crime was strong cooperation between the public and police, he added.

SAC I Mohd Mokhtar said police were also cleaning up red-light districts in the city such as Jalan Wong Ah Fook and Jalan Dobi.

"In a recent raid, we nabbed 13 women including foreigners at various cheap hotels in Jalan Wong Ah Fook.

"They are suspected of prostitution and we will intensify our efforts to clean up such places," he said.

He added that police were also working with local authorities such as the Johor Baru City Council (MBJB) for this.

To many, it was a wonder that the shops were still in business.

But little did anyone know that the actual business took place in the rear portion of the shops where a brothel was located.

The owner of the shops, who had partitioned the interior of his premises into rooms, had been supplying local and foreign women to tourists.

He was hauled up after an operation by Deputy State Police Chief Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff to clear up red light areas around Jalan Wong Ah Fook and Jalan Dhoby.

Last Sunday (5.8.07), Police and Municipal Council (MPJB) officers raided the shop-lots and demolished the partitions.

Johor crime rate down but rape cases up

JOHOR BARU : Although crime in the state generally fell over the first six months of the year, there was an increase in rape cases.

There were 83 cases since January compared with 57 cases in the corresponding period last year.

Police said there was a 7.54 per cent drop in the crime index between January and June this year with 15,646 cases of crime reported (16,922 last year).

There were fewer murders, snatch thefts and break-ins but as in rape cases, there has been a hike in extortions and gang fights.

The police have increased their solving rate to 43.34 per cent from 40.83 per cent last year.

Meanwhile, to regain public confidence, the police have set up the Community Policing Unit to build rapport between the cops and residents, said deputy state police chief Datuk Mohamad Mokhtar Mohamad Shariff.

The unit is the brainchild of Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan.

"All 11 district headquarters in Johor will have a Community Policing Unit and an officer in charge and officers will have to do an area study and get to know the people in the area.

"Under the Community Policing programme, every district will be divided into a zone and sector and an officer will be stationed there.

"He will also know how many street lights there are in the area and how many are required."

Johor Baru gets 431 extra cops on the beat

JOHOR BARU : The first batch of additional policemen hit the streets here last month with the key task of fighting crime and building better rapport with the public.

The 431 personnel are from the General Operations Force and the Federal Reserve Unit (FRU).

Johor deputy chief police officer Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said this after a closed-door meeting with his men yesterday.

"They have been split into four groups so that there will be round-the-clock patrols," Mokhtar said.

"They will be rotated every two weeks to ensure the men are mentally and physically fit. There will also be dialogue sessions with them so that they can tell us what more needs to be done."

The 431 policemen have been conducting patrols here since late June but only on a temporary basis.

This time around, they will be here on a permanent basis.

They will concentrate their efforts in Johor Baru South and North districts, said to be crime-prone areas.

Special attention will also be given to Jalan Wong Ah Fook, Jalan Tun Razak and Jalan Dhoby, which are known for drugs and prostitution.

"This clean-up operations will include other enforcement agencies."

The public will also be roped in under the community policing programme to tip off police on suspicious activities in their areas.

Johor crime lord under restricted residence

KUALA LUMPUR : A crime lord from Johor has been placed under restricted residence in Jeli, Kelantan.

This came to light yesterday following his lawyer’s withdrawal of a habeas corpus application seeking his release from the Sungai Buloh Prison, where he has been held since his arrest on Aug 1.

The 55-year-old man, described as the head of one of the most powerful syndicates in the country and once regarded as “untouchable”, had been arrested by a special team of officers from Bukit Aman’s commercial crime department over his alleged involvement in illegal lottery activities in the Johor Baru district since March 2005.

The man’s lawyer N. Sivananthan, who filed the habeas corpus application on Aug 3 at a High Court here, withdrew it yesterday saying that his client has been placed under restricted residence since Wednesday.

As such, the lawyer said he would be making a fresh civil application to declare his client’s detention under the Restricted Residence Act as unlawful.

Judicial Commissioner Abdul Alim Abdullah allowed the withdrawal.

Outside the courtroom, Sivananthan said he would file the application against the three-year restriction order at the High Court in Kota Baru.

The guest house, barely 100m from the Masai police station, was raided again by the police on Sunday night.

In the 10pm raid, police detained seven people.

Johor acting police chief Datuk Mohktar Mohd Shariff warned the men of the Masai police station that he would not hesitate to take action against any cop found to be covering up vice activities.

Mohktar said the police was aided by the Johor Baru Municipal Council and the Religious Affairs Department.

"We will not compromise or tolerate any vice activities in the state.

"This Saturday, Masai will get their Community Policing liaison officer.

He said the move was to ensure more security for the people there.

“The people have high expectations of us. As leaders, we have to work hard to give more facilities to the people,” he said at the launch of the CCTVs during a community programme in Permas Jaya on Saturday.

Mohamed Khaled hoped the community would give their full support to the local council and police to make the place a more comfortable and safer place.

Johor Baru city council mayor Datuk Mohd Naim Nasir said it was the council's responsibility to provide the best service to the people.

He added the council regularly conducted checks on restaurants to make sure they were clean.

JOHOR BARU : The city council will spend RM1.5mil to install 12 closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras around the city’s central business district.

1 CCTV camera cost $125,000.00? That is too much! One reasonably good webcam cost less than $125.00 so for $1.5 mil, we can install 12,000 nos of webcam along the street of JB!

Report from The STAR dated Thursday 23 August 2007 :-

Hi-tech police van to start patrols in JB soon

JOHOR BARU: The first hi-tech police patrol vehicle is expected to start cruising the city soon.

The mobile patrol vehicle is installed with advanced devices and linked to the 30 closed circuit television (CCTV) units set up in strategic locations.

Johor Baru mayor Datuk Mohd Naim Nasir said the patrol van, manned by police personnel, was like a mobile operations centre.

He said the patrol team would be able to monitor situations on the streets wherever it is.

“If this works, the idea and system may be used in the whole Iskandar Development Region.

“We will do whatever we can to ensure the safety of everyone in Johor Baru,'' he said.

Mohd Naim said the project, a joint operation between City Hall and the police, was part of plans to build a smart, safe and comfortable city to live in and work.

Also planned is the setting up of an additional 12 CCTVs and four nomadic cameras for the patrol vehicle.

Locations for the CCTVs include Jalan Tebrau, Komtar building, City Square and Holiday Plaza.

Currently, 18 CCTVs are installed in areas under City Hall jurisdiction.

Mohd Naim said the RM1.5mil project is expected to be completed within this year.

“We hope to have 69 CCTVs by 2010,'' he said while leading reporters on a tour of the operations centre at Menara Tabung Haji here yesterday.

The mayor also showed reporters a video clip captured by a CCTV of a man and his friends destroying a pedestrian barricade in the town centre.

He said the group was later arrested by police.

Mohd Naim said the first three CCTVs were set up in 2001 to monitor and control traffic flows along Jalan Tebrau, a main access road into the city.

Johor deputy police chief Senior Asst Comm (I) Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Sharif said the existing 18 CCTVs have proven to be effective in checking crime.

AirAsia to expand southern hub to tap Iskandar region

JOHOR BARU : AirAsia will continue with efforts to expand its southern hub at Senai Airport in view of the great potential of the Iskandar Development Region (IDR).

“We have seen the plans for Iskandar, and we are big believers in it. When Iskandar is ready, we will already be a part of it,” said chief executive officer Datuk Tony Fernandes.

“We are not waiting to see if Iskandar happens or not. We have faith in the state,” he added.

AirAsia simultaneously launched direct flights from Johor Baru to Macau and Palembang in Indonesia yesterday.

Mentri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman, Fernandes and AirAsia Deputy CEO Datuk Kamarudin Meranun welcomed 150 passengers from Macau who flew in on a new Airbus A320.

Fernandes said he was happy with the response from the Macau flight which recorded a load factor of 85%, compared to an average of 70%.

“It usually takes 18 months to develop a route but we have seen a 85% load factor already,” he said.

Fernandes said the airline was targeting one million passengers via Senai Airport next year. With Macau and Palembang, AirAsia now has 84 flights weekly from Senai Airport.

He added that he plans to open the no-frills hotel Tune Hotel in Danga Bay, Johor Baru.

Abdul Ghani said he was honoured that AirAsia had chosen Senai Airport as the first destination to fly its new Airbus.

“This signifies the airline’s commitment to enhance the connectivity in the region,” he said.

Report from Malaysiakini dated Wednesday 29 August 2007 :-

Rumour strikes fear in Johor townships

Two days before the country celebrates its 50th birthday, certain parts of Johor are in a grip of fear.

A rumour about racial strife in two Johor townships has been making the rounds since Sunday via SMS text-message, but authorities were swift to dismiss this as untrue.

The details vary in each text-message but the theme is essentially the same - that the purported incident involves Malays and Indians in Masai and the port town of Pasir Gudang.

Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and the police have firmly denied this, but the authorities are not taking chances - eye-witnesses report that numerous roadblocks have been mounted.

Pasir Gudang is about 35km east of Johor Bharu while Masai is a little closer to the state capital.

At one of these, said an eye-witness, police screened vehicles from Masai entering Taman Cendana in Pasir Gudang.

When contacted, Johor PAS Youth chief Khairul Faizi Ahmad Kamil said he was told that there were about 10 roadblocks last night between Johor Bharu and Pasir Gudang.

The heavy police presence however seems to be a double-edged sword - while no doubt intended to ensure calm, it has had the effect of fueling anxiety.

“People believe that the police presence means that the scenario, as described in the rumour, must be true,” said Khairul.

“There is a lot of chatter now in the warong (stalls). There is anxiety among residents when they see one another in public.”

Allaying fears
Numerous groups, including political parties, have been scrambling to quell public fear.

Acting Johor police chief Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff and Johor Bharu South district police chief ACP Roslan Ahmad held a special briefing last night at a school in Taman Cendana for some 300 residents (photo).

Flyers urging calm and telling the public to ignore the rumour were distributed at the event. [see below]

Permas Jaya assemblyperson KS Balakrishnan, who had accompanied Roslan, said the residents were assured that there is no truth to the claim being circulated.

Balakrishnan, whose constituency covers Taman Cendana, disagreed that the heavy police presence itself posed a source of fear.

“Because of the rumour, we must beef up efforts to ensure security. This is normal,” he told malaysiakini.

Pasir Gudang Umno deputy chief Ibrahim Abdul Ghaffar described the situation in Taman Cendana and Permas Jaya as “normal”.

“There are no Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) personnel in the two areas. People are going about their business as usual. Balakrishnan and I visited both areas last night and this morning. There were no fights,” he added.

Eyewitnesses had claimed that FRU trucks were stationed in the two locations, but that they had not seen personnel being deployed.

Fears spreading online
Meanwhile, the rumour has sparked discussion in Internet forums and blogs.

A search of major sites in Bahasa Malaysia and Mandarin revealed varying degrees of fear being expressed, as well as eyewitness reports.

Popular Bahasa Malaysia Internet forum cari.com.my drew more than 500 posts under the topic ‘What is the situation like in Pasir Gudang?’.

A Mandarin forum, jbtalks.cc has attracted more than 760 posts with many claiming that they would stay indoors in the coming days, as they fear unrest.

Numerous forums re-published an email from one ‘Ahmad Roh’ who claims to be from Taman Cendana.

“What we Taman Cendana residents are facing lately is sadness resulting from the false SMS which has mushroomed...

"If this continues, we will not forgive these ‘SMS journalist’ [sic] who are rumour-mongers. They are obsessed with creating stories that are spreading fear among the (community),” reads the email denying the rumour, the content of which also appeared in the flyers distributed by the police at the meeting with residents yesterday.

“Have any of you seen or received (mobile phone pictures) that can prove that we are under attack, (or are engaging in) attacks and riots? Let us answer this question: It would be a lie if you (rumour-mongers) say that you have received or seen such pictures.”

Johor acting police chief Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said the men, aged 25 and 29, were nabbed on Tuesday and have been remanded to help in the investigations.

The suspects are said to be private sector employees.

Mokhtar stressed that the allegations sent via text messages were all false.

"Nobody has been shot, murdered or attacked in Pasir Gudang or Masai as claimed," he said at the police headquarters last night.

"Please do not use text messages to spread rumours. We will not tolerate this nonsense."

Mokhtar said they are still trying to verify the origin of the text messages.

He also said police are expecting more arrests and those who forwarded the messages will also be detained.

As a precautionary measure, police have beefed up security in Masai and Pasir Gudang with more than 200 Federal Reserve Unit and General Operations Force in those areas.

Since the beginning of the month, text messages have been circulated alleging that racial riots will break out in the towns on National Day.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi had expressed unhappiness over the text messages which he had described as "nonsense".

Hi Bro KLK,

Certainly there must be some vested interest in spreading rumours, like what I had guessed that somebody must be trying to cause a rush for provisions ;)

Many years ago, maybe a decade, there was a malicious rumour in the Klang Valley that the Indons were arming and stocking parangs to strike Chinese...thus...there was a mad ruch for food [even my nearby provision shops' stale provisions and maggie mee were all grabbed within a day!]

Yeah, if they are charged with treason, they will be hanged and not banished to Afganistan

I think those privision/sundry shops in Masai and Pasir Gudang are facing very stiff competition from the nearby hypermarkets (like Giant, Tesco, Makro, Carrefour & Jaya Jusco) and have no business at all.......

So they device a plan to spread SMS rumours about impending racial clashes to panic people so that they rush to 'sapu' all the stocks of essential household items from them ......

Actually, it is a 'marketing strategy' and is part of the Merdeka Mega Sales 2007 campaign

Technician robbed and taken on terror ride in JB

JOHOR BARU : A 29-year-old technician was assaulted, confined in his car boot and taken on a terror ride for nearly an hour by three robbers Tuesday night.

Upon hearing the conversation between the robbers, that he would be killed Tan Lee Sang prise open the boot, waved to passers by and shouted for help before jumping off the vehicle.

Two police patrol cars came to his aid within minutes after receiving a call from a member of the public.

Policemen in one patrol car went searching for the robbers, who fled in Tan's Toyota Vios bearing number plate JJL 9969, while two other policemen in the other sent him to the hospital.

Tan was treated for cuts on his head and injuries on his hands and body.

At a press conference arranged by Pengkalan Rinting state assemblyman Low Teh Hian Wednesday, Tan said three armed men approached him as he entered his car at the railway station car park at about 10.30pm.

"One of them hit my head with a bottle and forced me to go to the back seat. Then, two robbers armed with a knife and a parang sat on my left and right while another drove my car,'' he said.

Tan said he was taken to an alley nearby where the robbers took away his four cellular phones, a wallet containing about RM800 in various currencies and ATM cards.

They also took his ring, watch, shoes and his passport.

He said the robbers then forced him into the car boot and demanded for the PIN number of his three ATM cards. Tan said the robbers made several stops along the way to withdraw money from ATM machines.

Tan said after the fourth stop about 45 minutes, he heard one of the robbers say “Transaction cancelled”.

He said he heard the robbers speaking among themselves furiously and that that they had wanted to stab and kill him. . "I was scared but I managed to find my torchlight and prised open the boot,'' he said.

Tan said he later found out that the robbers had withdrawn RM1,300 using two of his ATM cards.

Johor records 21pc jump in tourist arrivals

JOHOR BARU : Tourist arrivals in Johor for the past six months charted a 21 per cent rise.

This figure is expected to increase with the introduction of budget flights from the city to Jakarta and Palembang.

State Tourism and Environment Committee chairman Freddie Long said Johor received 12.3 million visitors in the past six months. The state only received 9.6 million during the corresponding period last year.

Arrivals from Singapore are also up to 70,000 per day, a sign that visitors from the island republic are returning to Johor and Malaysia despite perceptions of the state being riddled with crime.

Long said he was hopeful the number of visitors to Johor would go up as efforts to turn the Senai Airport into a low-cost carrier hub gained momentum.

Late last month, AirAsia launched its Macau-Johor Baru route and the budget airline is introducing flights to Jakarta and Palembang next month.

"The load factor for these flights (from Macau and China) is quite high, at times 65 per cent, and we can see tourism in Johor being given a boost when the Jakarta and Palembang flights take off," said Long.

Indonesian woman cuts off husband’s penis

JOHOR BARU : A 48-year-old Indonesian woman allegedly cut off her husband's penis out of jealousy after she discovered that he had devoted more attention to his second wife.

The Indonesian man, 43, was about to doze off next to his wife at a 'kongsi' for foreign construction workers in Taman Flora, Pulai, here at 11pm on Saturday when the incident occurred.

The wife then took out a knife and cut off her husband’s penis while shouting insults and accusations at him.

The victim’s loud screams of pain woke up other workers at the 'kongsi'. They rushed him to Kulai Hospital on seeing what had happened.

Nusajaya OCPD Supt Abd Aziz Ahmad said the doctors were able to reattach the victim's penis.

"He received 11 stitches and he was in the operating room for about six hours.

"Initial investigations revealed that the motive for the assault was jealousy," he said when contacted here on Monday.

Supt Abd Aziz said police had detained the wife and she would be investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for causing hurt with a weapon.

He added that police discovered that the husband had obtained a permanent resident status while both wives were still on working permits.

"We also learnt that the second wife is in her 30s and does not live in the same 'kongsi'," he said.

Supt Abd Aziz urged anyone with information to contact the police hotline at 07-2212999 or go to the nearest police station.

Police bust drug syndicate in JB

JOHOR BARU : Police busted a drug trafficking syndicate, seizing an array of drugs worth about RM290,000 and arresting a husband and wife team.

Acting on a tip-off, a squad of police personnel from the state Narcotics Unit led by C/Insp Chee Kar Woh raided two houses in Taman Desa Tebrau at 9.40pm on Tuesday and arrested a husband and wife aged 39 and 41.

Upon inspection, police discovered drugs and RM91,600 cash in the houses and in a vehicle owned by the couple.

Among the drugs seized were 1.472kg of ketamine, 6,730 Erimin pills and 3,157 Ecstasy pills. A current bank account certificate for RM140,00 was also seized.

State Deputy Police Chief Senior Asst Comm I Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff told a press conference that police believed the drugs were supplied for distribution at entertainment outlets in the city.

"Initial investigations revealed that the couple detained did not have past police records.

"They did not have any weapons nor did they resist arrest during the raid," he said, adding that police expect to arrest members of the same syndicate soon.

AirAsia remains committed to Senai

PETALING JAYA : AirAsia will further expand its operations in Senai International Airport even though it has now got the nod to fly the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore route, its CEO Datuk Tony Fernandes said.

“We have invested more than RM1bil in Senai and we will continue to develop more routes originating from the Johor airport.

“We have started flights to Macau from Senai. We are going to start the Senai-Guangzhou and Senai-Shenzhen routes,” he told a press conference Thursday evening.

Fernandes was responding to comments by certain parties in Johor that AirAsia would neglect the Senai airport now that it has the KL-Singapore route.

Fernandes said he could not understand why some people could say such a thing because AirAsia was committed to Senai.

“On a personal basis, I have even invested in a hotel in Senai. We are the only airline which park their aircraft there. We have three brand new A320 parked there,” he added.

Asked about his plans for Singapore, he said it was a dream come true for the airline and the country.

“It is the missing link and with Singapore now, we can get more people to come to Malaysia. I thank the Prime Minister and the Cabinet for allowing us to be designated as a carrier to Singapore.”

On the airfare, Fernandes said: “We fly to Johor for about RM60 one way and Singapore is just two minutes away. So do the math.”

As for when the flight could start, he said: “The very next day after they give the approval. I won’t wait.”

He explained that although the Malaysian Government had given the nod, the two countries still needed to discuss things before formal written approvals could be given.

Fernandes said he did not expect anyone to lose out because of AirAsia getting to fly to Singapore.

“We are living in a globalised world and must be prepared to compete.

“I never asked for open skies. All we wanted is just two flights and this is what we got. We would like to have flights to Singapore from Kuching, Kota Kinabalu and Penang but we have not asked for that yet.”

Malaysia Airlines, while expressing disappointment in a statement about the opening of the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore route, has asked that its subsidiary Firefly be allowed to fly to Singapore from its hub in Subang.

Chief executive officer and managing director Datuk Idris Jala said its Business Turnaround Plan was designed around the Asean open skies roadmap that was coming into play on Jan 1, 2009.

“We were working on major initiatives to ensure sustained profitability, and we will now need to fast track these plans,” he added.

also, i first time going to senai so dont know anything about cheonging nearby airport.

There are no massage parlours, health centres or fuck joints at the Senai International Airport area ........ but if you are young, tall, very rich and handsome you might be able to 'tackle' some gatal air hostesses after taking a flight and becoming their friends

Report from The STAR dated Saturday 10 November 2007 :-

Crackdown on JB nightspots

JOHOR BARU : Johor police are coming down hard on nightspots, which are fast becoming popular among drug users, including foreigners.

The State Narcotics Unit began its crackdown by nabbing 64 patrons including five foreigners for consuming drugs after a string of raids at two entertainment joints in Taman Sentosa here recently.

Johor police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Hussin Ismail said the foreigners were from Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia.

We rounded up 186 patrons but only 64 tested positive for an assortment of drugs.

Most of them tested positive for syabu, he said.

He said that one outlet broke its licence regulations after three juveniles including a girl were discovered there.

DCP Hussin said those who tested positive were out on bail and their fate would be determined in two weeks after the hospital completed its test results.

He said the five-hour raid, which started at 3am and involved over 50 police personnel, was part of the police crackdown on drug infested entertainment outlets and those that opened beyond their operating hours.

Those who tested positive were investigated under Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

We expect to conduct more raids at other outlets in the city.

We want to send the message that drug abuse at such outlets is not welcome here, he said.

DCP Hussin urged those with information on any criminal activities to contact the police hotline at 07-221 2999 or the nearest police station.

This happened last Wednesday, when I was in JBC for work.
After finished work, reached hotel at about 7 pm. The traffic in JBC was killing me. Took about an hour to get out of JBC. During the jam, called bro whoamim, asked him to meet up later in the evening. He said okay. But bro shincan18 cannot join due to some circumstances.

After shower, i went makan at a restaurant nearby hotel. Then called up bro whoamim, asked where to meet you. Since I'm first time in JB, so i decide to ask whoamim to meet at Danga Bay (Teluk Danga). Eventually another SBF bro was in JB too. So we go together. Reached Danga Bay, order a bucket of beers, why? for alcohol, NO! But for Pussy! because we wanna disturb the gal who selling it. The gal is sweet....just 18 YO, sweet2 eighteen. Disturb and chit chat, sweet talks with the gal, then able to get her no. lo. Offer to fetch her when off work, but she kept saying her fren will fetch her. Bo song liao.....then bro whoamim and me quickly finished the beers.

I told bro whoamim, I wanna try NL for tonight. Then he helped me to called up Ann.The other bro opted for an Cambodian gal, is it bro whoamim? Well checked in a budget hotel. Ann is my type of gal, PETITE with small butt! DARN...IT'S GOOD!

Within seconds, I'm totally naked. So excited, since long time no eat Nasi Lemak liao. Went to bath, very NICE, she help the clean my didi and body. When cleaning didi, she started to attack it, SUCKING my didi and balls. Up to nipples, down to didi again. NICE!! after awhile, we dry up and head to bed. When on bed, she continue sucking my didi. After ten minutes, she capped me. First position, cow gal. She really enjoy, riding it wildly! Up and Down..woooooo, NICE!! I can feel her pussy, it's tight! Oh gosh, I'm going to CUM soon.
Asked to stop, change position, missionary. Before that, I kissed her little dark brown nipples, SLURP2, small and hard, gosh it's NICE!! SLURPS........
It's time, insert my didi to position. Hit the pedal, and speed it up! In and Out.....change to 3rd gear, pumping her faster and faster! She started to screamed a little, her hands reached for the bed sheet. The whole environment made me more intense. Oh gosh, really can't stand any longer.
With very high speed, I gave her hard and deep penetration, yes, with fucking her harder and faster in every seconds, I finally CUM.....!! :D One word, SATISFY!! It's was really a good FUCK, especially a FL NL.

She helped me to bath again. very GFE feels!! NICE!! Sweet talks and chit chat for awhile, pay her and left. Room on her.

After bonking Ann NL, suddenly damn hungry, look for bro whoamim, but that guy yam cha with his frens at corner lot. Quite faraway to walk there. Want ask the other bro, but that bro still bonking. Darn, no choice, go eat alone.

Walk2 see one pretty gal standing in front of me. She was talking on the phone. I strongly she is a PRC, from the way she speak her type of Mandarin. so I also stop la, pretend I lost my way. After that she asked me, what are doing? Looking for me? Wow...she kept eyes contact with me. So electrifying!! Eventually there is a pub where we were standing right now. She worked there. She asked "You wanna come and enjoy with me?". Well I replied "Sure, but I need to look for my frens and join you later." She walked into the pub. I go look for bro whoamim, he said later we are heading for more exciting place. So nevermind la, I had already informed bro whoamim about this place, and it's confirmed inside the pub, there were few SYTs.

Bro whoamim, i can't remember the pub name?

Finally have my supper at a steam boat van. The food here not bad le, also can see some pretty SYTs and EAs too, eating sossege and fish BALLS....hehehehe!!!

When the other bro done with his Cambodian gal, we went to next hotspot.
I seriously can't recall where this place located at, pls refer to bro whoamim.
After 15 mins drive, we FINALLY reached the hotspot.
From outside, it look very ordinary, a normal pub. But once I went in, walao eh.......I cannot see anything.......EXCEPT pinos.........there were about 50++ pinos PR gal. Ranging from sweet 18 to EAs. DAMN siok!!
bro whoamim, I respect you, this is seriously a MUST visit spot when in JBC.

We look for pretty dark spot, and order a few bottles of beers. When we were looking for the right spot, there were about 10 gals around us, and keep touching my body part. Siok2.
When seated, there were four gals accompany me, walao, so NICE eh!!! They asked me to buy them drinks, some sort of tips for them la, But according to bro whoamim, pls bargain the services before you buy them drinks.
Before I start bargain, four of them ATTACK me liao. 2 of them lift my shirt up, and start playing and kissing my nipples. And the other two, started to unbutton my jeans. Oh gosh, this is my first time. It's was really EXCITING!! damn I like it so much, Thanks bro whoamim.
Suddenly didi awake, ready for action. Then bargain2 and talk2, ok la buy u all some drinks. They went off and came back with the drinks. And four of them started to HJ me. Two of them suck and kiss my nipples, one at each side. One HJ-ing me and the other now, auto-roaming and sweet talks at my ears. Serious this is my first time, It was FANTASTIC. It was like heaven, four pinos helping me to HJ. Oh gosh, is this REAL? ...........YESSSSSSSSSSS.........IT IS!!!
I so paiseh, bro whoamim kept looking at me. Sorry la bro, first time la, must very siok for me. After awhile I finally cum. They use some tissue to clean up.
FANTASTIC!! :D

Then the gals went off. It's ok for me. Eventually all the while, since coming in to the pub, there was a gal that keep eyes contact with me. And She become the one that accompany me after the HJ. We talked for hours, seems like we were connected in such way.
Clock stroked 2am. Since me and bro whoamim need to work tommorrow, we had to move. But the gal dun let me go. Dun know real or not. But very good GFE feel. I also wanna longer since it was so many fun here. Then I promised to see her again, then she ask when? I said free lo. But she said u wanna see me tomorrow morning? U can come and fetch me. Well, I said ok , if I completed my tasks early tomorrow. She said ok. Then she gave me her fren phone no. and address. So we moved out!!

It's totally a new experience for me. Thank you bro whoamim, such a FANTASTIC night!! :)

Age: Two of them early 30's

Get the SYT's ctc, we move on to next place.

I ask their preference and kind of girl they are looking for.
With my limited contact, lucky i get him 'petite size NL'.
And arrange a 'Pretty' combodia 18yrs SYT for the other bro, but too bad the combodia SYT having menstruation, so take 'Pretty' PRC instead, and ask the OKT send to the same motel, save petrol and time mah.

Then i have a drink with the OKT.

When both bro is satisfy but the night is still young. So ask them to look see look see JB famous pinoy pub.
Drive them to TMN GAYA Cool box.
Bet with them will have 6 girl surround each of us and ascort us until the seat. Too bad only have 5 :o , buy them drink lor. NVM.
The rest is their story.

I have 2 dinor sitting with me and a girl i meet last time.
They start strip my shirt and pants, and massage my little john.
Too bad, even HJ also i'm not looking for RTF. So i purposely walk in and out to the pub and hunting for my next target.

Bro,

I posted my FR in MK already. Here is the second one.

Unable to locate Arin that day,I rang up Ann again.Immediately she told me she is free and longing to meet me again. So,i went up to her usual place and waited for her in the room. The moment she arrived, she FK me and almost sucked my tongue out..he..he and told me she miss me so much.Went into the shower room and wash my didi. While doing that, she gave me a BBBJ in the shower room.Dry up and start to catcath me,gave me a long bbbj while i am fingering her.Already very wet, trunover and capped me.Ride me on cowgirl style. After 10 minutes, she smiled and said, dah keluar...so i ask her, puas tak?She said, puas tapi nak lagi. So,i took her on missionary followup by doggie. After about 20 minutes,i unload in doggie.
Rest for a while, cuddling, kissing and lying on bed.Start to ask her about her life. She told me she is 24 but have a 6 y.o.kid.Married at 17 y.o. but divorced now.Start showing concern about her and ask her whether she has bf or not.She said no but she want me as her bf...sure or not i don't bother. After some foreplay,my didi is hard again and she want me to go for 2nd round.I told her i don't have CD but she said, take her raw as she already treat me as 'abang'...too bad,i don't want to take risk. She gave me a bbbj, washed and then we went out.

Seven Vietnamese nabbed in Johor vice raid

PONTIAN : Increased police vice raids in the city has forced prostitution rings to move to smaller towns.

The ring leaders are willing to transport their "girls" about 100km daily to carry out their business activities before returning to the "safe houses" in remote areas.

Their activities were uncovered when police detained seven Vietnamese women believed to be prostitutes in a raid at a house in Taman Megah, here at 8pm on Tuesday.

Investigations showed that the women were kept at the house and chauffeur driven to meet their clients.

Pontian OCPD Supt Zahaliman Jamin said the women would also be sent to other nearby districts and cities, especially Johor Baru, to spend the night with their clients.

"We believe this syndicate has been in operation for over three months.

"They (women) are using tourist visas to enter Johor through a neighbouring country," he said adding that the women detained aged between 21 and 30 have been remanded.

Supt Zahaliman said police have identified other members of the syndicate and they would make more arrests soon.

CMP embarks on RM2.7b project in IDR, Johor Bahru

JOHOR BARU : Central Malaysian Properties Sdn Bhd (CMP) will develop Lido Boulevard, a RM2.7bil integrated waterfront city, in the Iskandar Development Region (IDR).

Managing director Datuk Chan Tien Ghee said work on the project, located on a 49.37ha beachfront site, would start in March and was expected to be completed by 2016.

The project, to be developed in phases, will stretch 2.4km along Lido Beach – from the now defunct Lot 1 shopping mall to the Harbour Master office.

“Lido Boulevard will completely rehabilitate Lido Beach and give Johor Baru a facelift,” Chan said at the launch of the project by Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman yesterday.

The flagship project by CMP, a company linked to Tan Sri Vincent Tan Chee Yioun, is a joint venture between CMP, the State Secretary and landowner Kumpulan Prasarana Rakyat Johor.

Touted as the “Garden City of the South”, the project will include landscaped gardens, water fountains and park-like facilities.

Chan said the project would be financed via shareholders’ funds and internal funding and the company would start sales early next year.

The development will consist of four main components – luxury condominiums, waterfront office suites, a hotel and a shopping mall.

There will be eight blocks of high-end condominiums of between 18 and 26 floors each, offering 914 units on a 1,052ha site.

Another eight blocks of waterfront office suites of between six and eight floors each, a 296-room hotel-cum-service residences and a three-storey waterfront retail complex are also in the plan.

Incorporated within the mall will be an international-sized ice skating rink and 32-lane bowling alley.

“One of the main attractions will be the 4,645.15 sq m Indoor Snow Park with activities like ice sliders, tobogganing and many more,” Chan said.

He said RM150mil would be spent to upgrade Jalan Abu Bakar, fronting the seafront project, including widening the existing roads with flyovers and pedestrian bridges.

He said CMP would start a RM1mil trust fund, which would be administered by an independent board of trustees that would address social and environmental issues arising from the development.

Illicit sex bad for health

OUT of 5,529 heart attack deaths in Asia , 34 happened during sex. Of that number, 27 were having illicit sex, reported Berita Minggu on Sunday.

This figure showed that illicit sex could be stressful to the heart, which could also lead to sudden death.

Dr Wong Teck Wee, a cardiologist and physician at Universiti Putra Malaysia ((UPM), said that research conducted last year revealed that a heart patient in a “hasty situation” would suffer angina, which could lead to atherosclerosis that caused a narrowing of the artery and insufficient blood supply to the organs.

The paper said that heart attacks took place when atherosclerosis stopped blood from flowing to the heart.

In his paper , A good heart for good sex, presented at a forum on Saturday, Dr Wong was quoted as saying that a heart patient should control his emotions, not get overstressed, watch his diet and perform at least 20 minutes of physical exercise daily.

At the same forum, UPM family health specialist Dr Zaiton Ahmad emphasised the importance of health.

She said that society tended not to place health as a priority, so much so that it has affected one’s career, studies and family harmony. In 1988, 29.4% of deaths in Peninsular Malaysia were caused by cardiovascular diseases, she said.

Highest number of HIV/AIDS cases in Johor

JOHOR BARU : Johor recorded the highest number of HIV and AIDS cases in the country with 13,488 and 1,577 cases respectively between 1986 and June this year.

There were 1,017 deaths from AIDS during this period.

Johor Baru Mayor Datuk Naim Nasir said, this year, 57 HIV/AIDS carriers were detected in the state compared with 62 last year.

“The number is still big and all preventive measures need to be continued,” he said when launching the World AIDS Day commemoration here recently.

He said most of the victims were intravenous drug users.

Naim said the move to require couples intending to marry to undertake tests for HIV/AIDS was not to deter people from marrying, but to check the spread of the deadly disease.

He said the move, which was initially objected to by some quarters, was now accepted as they had realised the importance of preventive measures.

The state-level World AIDS Day programme was jointly organised by Johor Baru City Council, Intan Life Zone, National Anti-Drugs Agency, Malaysian AIDS Council and the Health Ministry.

Report from The New Sunday Times dated Sunday 23 December 2007 :-

JB restaurant's 'most spicy dish' taken off the menu

JOHOR BARU : A restaurant in Taman Skudai Baru here which featured scantily-clad showgirls was busted by the police yesterday.

The showgirls would perform on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights between midnight and 1am.

The place would be packed with mostly male clients on these nights as the showgirls would shed their clothes piece by piece until they were only clad in a bra and shorts.

The police busted the restaurant for flouting city council entertainment regulations and arrested the performers.

Cops also carted away RM40,000 in sound equipment and shut down the makeshift stage that the eatery had been using to hold the performances.

The restaurant had blocked off Jalan Hang Kasturi 23, a public road, by building the stage and placing its tables and chairs around it to create seating for about 1,000 diners.

Nusajaya district police chief Superintendent Abdul Aziz Ahmad said a 28-year-old scantily clad singer was nabbed by district criminal investigation department officers when she was making her rounds through the restaurant's tables about 12.30am.

Diners who appreciated her performance could tip her by buying a bouquet costing RM10 or a sash costing between RM50 and RM1,000.

Also arrested in the raid, led by Nusajaya CID chief Deputy Superintendent Yahaya Hassan, was a 24-year-old man who is the disc jockey at the restaurant.

"We are conducting investigations to charge them under Section 6(2) of the Johor Entertainment Enactment for operating an illegal entertainment centre," said Abdul Aziz.

The offence carries a one-year jail term or a RM10,000 fine or both.

Report from The New Straits Times dated Monday 24 December 2007 :-

Johor State has second-highest number of drug addicts

JOHOR BARU : Statistics from the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) for the first seven months of the year showed that Johor had the second highest number of drug addicts in the country.

The statistics revealed that Penang, which had recorded 2,504 drug addicts for the same period, once again topped the country’s ranking, followed by Johor which had 1,350 addicts.

In the same period last year, Johor had 1,158 addicts and was in seventh place.

Johor AADK officer Abas Sudar said the higher figure was due to the increase in operations against addicts by the Narcotics Department throughout the state.

However, according to the statistics, the total number of “identified” drug addicts in the country had declined significantly compared with the previous year.

The total number of addicts last year was 14,214 and this declined to 10,131.

Almost half, or 45.87 per cent of drug addicts in the country, were those who dropped out of school after Form Three.

“These statistics, however, do not include the large number of addicts who are still undetected. According to a recent United Nations report, for every drug addict identified, seven are undetected.

“Parents and the public must come forward to help to identify these addicts who are dangerous to the society and country,” he said at a press conference held in conjunction with the Anti-Drug exhibition and talk.

The exhibition and talk, organised by the Johor Baru Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, will be held at the Dewan Raya Taman Ungku Tun Aminah on Dec 29 and 30.

Sandalwood oil jabs from "five-foot-way doctors"

Harian Metro reported that more than 1,000 men were suffering from various complications after getting sandalwood oil jabs from “five-foot-way doctors” that claim that the jabs could help enlarge their penises.

Victims have paid up to RM1,500 for the injection, only to suffer pain or impotence.

Andrologist Dr Ismail Tambi revealed that the use of sandalwood oil for such purpose began in Sabah and Brunei, but it has since spread to peninsular Malaysia.

“I learnt of this from a patient of mine from Brunei. When I checked his penis, it looked really strange.

“He told me that he had received 15 injections for the treatment that had gone wrong,” he added.

Dr Ismail said he receive similar cases after that with some patients suffering from serious complications.

He said most of the “doctors” would show their own private parts first, claiming the oil had done them good.

“I want to advise men not to fall for this ploy, especially with the attractive advertisements circulating on the Internet,” he added.

AirAsia to fly JB-Bangkok route from Feb 25, 2008

BANGKOK : AirAsia is expected to ply the Bangkok-Johor Baru route beginning February 25, 2008 with four flights a week.

The once-daily flight will be on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

An airline official said Bangkok will be the first destination in Thailand from Johor Baru, targeting Johoreans, Singaporeans and also those flying into the city from Sabah and Sarawak.

Besides Bangkok, AirAsia will also fly to Medan and Surabaya from Johor Baru soon, he said.

AirAsia and its Thai subsidiary, Thai AirAsia, now operate seven flights daily from Kuala Lumpur to Bangkok, as well as serving Krabi, Phuket and Chiang Mai, on top of the Penang-Bangkok route.

The Bangkok-Langkawi and Bangkok-Kota Kinabalu services were discontinued last year due to low passenger load.

It's learnt that Thai AirAsia was not keen to operate the Johor Baru-Bangkok route as it wanted to concentrate on strengthening its existing destinations while looking into the possibility of entering the Bangkok-Jakarta route and expanding its China base

Bukit Chagar CIQ to start operations in May 2008

JOHOR BARU : The Bukit Chagar Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex will start its operations in May 2008, Works Minister Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu says.

He said the complex, worth over RM1 billion, has been fully completed and all relevant government agencies have started to move in and make the necessary preparations.

“The CIQ will be open to the public and light vehicles in May,” he told reporters after officiating the ground breaking ceremony for the construction of a road from Permas Jaya to Pasir Gudang here today.

Present was Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman.

Samy Vellu said the CIQ will have a temporary link to the Johor Causeway.

Upon completion of the “Medium Term Link” (MTL), which connects the CIQ with the Johor Causeway, at the end of 2009, heavy vehicles which presently passed through the Tanjung Puteri Customs Inspection Centre will be allowed to use the complex, he said.

When asked on the cost of building the MTL, he said the Finance Ministry was still looking at it.

On the 9km Permas Jaya-Pasir Gudang road, Samy Vellu said the RM190-million project undertaken by Pelantar Komponen Sdn Bhd would be completed by Jan 1, 2001.

The cost included the construction of elevated interchanges along the Johor Baru-Pasir Gudang Road and in Permas Jaya and three bridges over Sungai Luncho, Sungai Rekoh and Sungai Masai, he said.

“The Works Ministry has identified Permas Jaya as having the potential to grow rapidly with the construction of several other high-impact infrastructure projects under the Iskandar Development Region programme,” he said.

He also said that under the Ninth Malaysia Plan, the federal government had allocated RM1.87 billion for development projects in Johor.

Factory workers' callgirl ring smashed in JB

PONTIAN : A prostitution ring that caters to factory workers was busted with the arrests of 3 Indonesian women and 7 foreign clients at a house in Pekan Nenas.

Acting on a tip-off, a squad of police personnel led by C/ Insp Tha Na Sak raided the house, which had been transformed into a makeshift brothel, at about 8.30pm on Sunday.

They arrested the prostitutes, in their 20s, and their clients, 6 Nepalese and Bangladeshi factory workers aged between 20 and 30.

Police made the arrests while 2 of them women were in the midst of "entertaining" their clients.

It is believed that 5 other clients were waiting for their turn when the raid occurred.

Pontian OCPD Supt Zahaliman Jamin said initial investigations revealed that the syndicate had been in operation for just a few weeks.

“We believe the prostitutes are catering to foreign workers due to the close proximity of several factories.

“The prostitutes are from Medan, Tanjung Balai and Batam respectively and we also seized several condoms during the raid,” he said, adding that the prostitutes entered the country with valid passports and social visit passes.

Supt Zahaliman said those arrested have since been remanded until March 20, and the case was classified under Section 372B of the Penal Code for involvement in prostitution.

58 foreign women nabbed in vice raid in JB

JOHOR BARU : 58 foreign women were picked up during a vice raid here.

The women, aged between 19 and 33, were believed to be involved in vice activities at two entertainment outlets in Taman Sentosa here.

They were sent to the Johor Baru (South) district police headquarters for further investigations after the Saturday midnight raid.

Police also rounded up nearly 100 men for documentation.

Johor CID chief Senior Asst Comm Amer Awal said the operations were conducted on public tip-off.

He said a team headed by Johor anti-vice, gaming and secret society division deputy chief Deputy Supt Tan Hiap Seng, first raided a karaoke nightclub soon after midnight.

There, police detained 35 Thai women and an Indonesian.

“We suspected that immoral activity was being conducted because some of the rooms are equipped with mattresses,” he said.

ACP Amer said another team - led by Supt Maszely Minhad from the Federal Police anti-vice, gaming and secret society division - later stormed into a nearby karaoke nightclub where police detained 14 Thai women, six Filipinos and two Indonesians.

He said police also discovered secret passages leading to various hideouts at both premises.

Security checks at Causeway hurting retail activity in JB

JOHOR BARU : Local businesses have been hard hit, as stringent security checks at the Causeway have put off many Singaporeans from crossing into Malaysia.

Many shopkeepers complain that sales and profits have taken a dive, with some saying they have experienced a 50% drop in customers over the last month.

The blame has largely been laid on the hunt for Jemaah Islamiah fugitive Mas Selamat Kastari, who escaped from the Whitley Road Detention Centre in Singapore on Feb 27.

At City Square shopping complex, Popular Bookstore retail manager E Poo Ru said business had dropped by half.

“The bulk of our customers are Singaporeans, and a lot of them place orders for books. But now they are reluctant to endure the traffic jam to collect the books,” she said.

“These days we have to relax our policy and allow a one-month grace period for collection instead of the normal two weeks.”

Levis outlet manager Ching Lee Ling said that along with the fall in customers and sales, commissions had also suffered.

“I hope they catch him soon so things can get back to normal,” she added.

Secret Recipe assistant retail manager Hisham Amat said the outlet used to order 100 whole cakes for the weekends, but was now forced to reduce the number to 60 or 70.

“Our Singaporean customers don’t usually buy the cakes by the slice, they take the whole cake. Business has definitely declined,” he said.

Moneychanger Sharbudeen Abdul Gaffor, whose business is located just kilometres away from the Immigration checkpoint, said business had been slow.

“A lot of our customers are Malaysians who work in Singapore. They tell us they are too tired to come as regularly after spending four hours in the traffic jam,” he said

When contacted, Malaysian Indian Business Association president P. Sivakumar said the stringent security checks were costing local businesses millions of ringgit in losses.

“This is of great concern as businesses are losing heavily; and workers travelling to and fro are also suffering because of time lost,” he said.

Sivakumar described the current situation as unfair to Malaysian business people, and said Singapore should find a better method of solving its problem, one that would not disrupt mobility or commerce.

16 women rescued in vice raids

KUALA LUMPUR : Immigration Department officers arrested three members of a human trafficking syndicate and rescued 16 foreign women forced into prostitution earlier this week.

Department enforcement director Datuk Ishak Mohamed said this was the first success since the Anti-Trafficking In Persons Act 2007 was enforced in January.

"The women, all in their 20s, were rescued during operations in Negri Sembilan and Johor Baru. The three male suspects, aged in their 30s, had been remanded for further investigation."

The women comprised four China nationals, two Vietnamese, seven Thai and three Laotians.

Yesterday, the Seremban magistrate's court and the Pekan Nenas illegal immigrant Sessions Court issued interim orders to send all the women to a shelter house run by the Women's Development Department, pending further action.

IT exec claims lover forced her to have sex with gigolos

KUALA LUMPUR : An IT executive had sex with at least six gigolos between 2003 and 2006 to please her married boyfriend who video recorded the sessions and is now threatening her with exposure.

The man brought the gigolos to their apartment and paid them RM100 each after the sessions.

The 32-year-old woman from Ampang did what she did because she was so in love with the man and was willing to do anything for her boyfriend, said MCA Public Services and Complaints Department head Datuk Michael Chong at a press conference.

“Three years ago, the man’s wife found out about their relationship and advised her to leave him, but she refused then,” he said.

But the woman’s nightmare began last December when she finally decided to leave the man she had met seven years ago, said Chong to whom the woman turned for help.

“He has threatened to harm her. He also harasses her family, colleagues and new boyfriend,” he said.

Chong added that the woman’s family was unaware of her sex liaisons with gigolos.

He said she refused to lodge a police report although he had advised her to do so.

As far as I know there are many joints offering Traditional Thai massage in JB, eg in Taman Pelangi, Bandar Baru Permas Jaya, Taman Nusa Bestari, Century Garden, New York Hotel, JB City Square, Jusco @ Tebrau City, etc, etc, ..... but not of these "clean" places offer FJ or BBBJ  ..... the most you can get is HJ for about RM 40 or RM 50

HungryDick SMS me from JB to ask me names of Thai songs. Fortunately, I was in Lulu so, I can scan through the list...
