Pink Floyd, it's high season in Phuket now and the tourist numbers have definitely increased but not to the point as it used to be a few years ago. I had a few friends go to Patong on Christmas night and they said the place was very quiet. Normally by Christmas Patong is packed full of people.

Just back from Phuket. Even tho it is supposed to be high season now, it is not as crowded on the streets as say 2 years ago, yet the tuk tuk and taxi drivers are still trying to rip off tourists the moment they step out of the airport. Even in town, you cant walk 10 metres without some taxi tout trying to come and ketok you. They are indeed killing their own industry here. Looked around Pink Lady and Fantasia in Phuket town and was not too impressed with quality and prices really steep at Fantasia. Again the moment you walk in all the staff probably imagine one huge ripe carrot walking in ready to kena chopped. In the end, took a chance on an escort agency which was advertised in the airport limo, Katherine massage and was pleasantly surprised. 23 year old Bangkok U student part timing here for a couple of weeks. Charge was 3K for 2 hours and was really quite enjoyable. Call it a last resort I guess. Was too far from Patong to enjoy the action there.

I always stay in Phuket town when I visit Phuket on monthly basis in 2008. I find if you can talk or hold conversation in Thais, you can pretty much score local thai gals with lots of disco in the town... I was fortunate that I have a local thais brought me to all these places and it was a pleasant surprise to see how these thai ladies party.

True.. those tuk tuk charge an exorbitant fees for their services... and the worst thing is that there are not many meter taxi in town.. Strangely, I never visit Fantasia because my local thai friend prefer clubbing and so do I. I felt partying with thais can be very fun.. they sure know how to party.

The Tuk Tuk and Jet Ski operators in Phuket and especially Patong is really killing the tourist industry. Imagine how many tourists refuse to come back to Phuket again after being scammed and or threatened by these guys. As alot of you may know recently the Jet Ski scam situation received alot of news coverage. It's these people's short term thinking that's eventually destroying their own livelihoods.

I've never actually been to Pink Lady before but Fantasia I have a few times. The place used to be pretty good when it first opened with girls packed to the brim. Right now it's kinda died off and guys usually just go in pick a girl and then go someplace else. Usually tour groups go there now.

Personally I prefer Phuket town to Patong as it's more civilized and I'm sick and tired of the Patong scene. Once in awhile is OK but not on a regular basis. For those wanting to try out Phuket town there are quite a few new places to go to now. In the old Phuket town area there are alot of small hip bars that converted the old Sino-Portuguese buildings have opened up. All the young locals hang out there. This is around the Thanon Dibuk area.

There's also a big joint that opened up close to Saphan Hin area called Level pub and it has like 5 pubs/restaurants all in one area. Live rock band style. Similar to the big Bangkok joints in Thonglor etc.

Another new place just opened called Heaven close to Khao Rung area in town but I've never been to yet also seems quite nice. Puea Chee Wit style music but suppose to have Coyote and girls sit with you style. Also have steak BBQ starting around 5pm.

Those of you mongering in Phuket town should go try.

Then there's my usual joint Bossy which is close to Royal Phuket City Hotel. Live band and Coyote style. I enjoy it as I'm there alot and know the people there. But it only gets busy a bit later around 11ish 12am.

Phuket is indeed a fun place to be in but always be vigilant over there as one of my friend has encountered and heard tourist get into robbery victims.

Its happened on last year June which we party till 4am and one of my friend decided to go back hotel to sleep ,all of us are already high. He rided a motorbike back to hotel and somewhere near tai pan, 3 ah gua jump out to his lane and block him wanted him to go back and they started touching him and rubbed him and finally he break free and continute to ride his bike, halfway thru he realise his all his belonging was gone and its too late for him to U-Turn back.

2nd incident, hotel guest at the lobby was crying to go back, he was a french guy, he was drugged and the crooks get him to the jewellery shop and wipe out all his credit cards and infact he sign for the items and no way to prove he is innocent. At least he report to the police but do u think is they any help?

I love to be there as i enjoy it since i was 21 years old but always be in mind "stay sharp" and vigilant and not get too drunk as there is many cases happened already.

hunterhi, the place your friend brought you to at the round about is probably where Kor Tor Mor is. There are probably half a dozen other bars and pubs around there. Usually in Phuket it's OK to go anywhere in shorts and sandals but I guess it's understandable if some places don't let you in due to dress code issues. Just like you wouldn't walk into a club in Singapore wearing shorts and sandals right?? Patong is OK since the place is only geared for tourists and that's all they're willing to wear.

I was almost refused entry into Hollywood once cuz I was wearing shorts, sandals, and sleeveless t shirt. That was completely weird as most of the other people in there are dressed just like me. I was like WTF?? Then he let me in anyways. Guy must have not liked my face!!

By the way for all you others in Patong or going to Patong, should go check out Suzy Wong's. It's at the end of Soi Sea Dragon on the right hand side if you're walking down the Soi. It's an interesting place. But be warned you will be whipped and beaten!!! If you're daring enough then take a look round the back of Suzy Wong's and you'll see a flight of stairs going up to a door. After seeing this and if you get over the fear of loosing your kidneys if you walk through the door; you will find yet another interesting place offering talents of the oral type.

The place is packed with westerners with proportions at about 80:1. I feel like a 2nd class tourist there being ignored by the touts and of cos also by the girls who feel that the whites are bigger "fishes"to work on.
Work on is the word now in Phuket. Every girl you meet in the bars is almost for sure a FL. Even though she may have numerous foreign boyfriends sending her Western Union MTCN numbers. My biggest shock was to learn that even if you meet a "decent" girl in a bar and she says she never been to Phi Phi before... and I offer to take her there on speed boat option and all expenses paid... I have still to pay her for her time with me. More payment wanted if sex is involved. I thought any girl whom I helped experience an all expenses tour would be so appreciative but instead I was far from it. Lesson 1 of 2010 learnt.
Prices are sky high for almost everything.Worse is the 2 tier pricing practised by the vendors.There is a farang price and a thai price. Always ask the price before you buy ANYTHING. Department store price tagged items excluded.
Go Go touts are making killings like a massacre. They approach you in Bangla Road and show you a price menu for a Go Go bar and the menu is "exclusive " to you cos he introduced you to the bar. A beer on his menu can be between 400-650 baht a bottle whereas the menu in the waitress hand will show a price of 130-150 baht. The waitress will explain it off as 2nd drink is only 130 baht. Lesson learnt is to know which Go Go bar you want to go, and walk into the bar on your own later to check whether to stay or walk out.
Exchange rate seems to be falling for the Sg $. I am getting about 23.10 baht to the S$.

A smile goes a long way in Thailand. As for the girls in Patong, as you said yourself, 99.99% of them are "working" there. It's all about business so an all expenses paid trip to Phi Phi etc. are not all that attractive to them unless they are getting paid for it. Just business.

These are similar cons to Bangkok and Pattaya's.Typical thai. Sorry you learn the hard way but now you are ready to chiong the thai scene! Know the cons and know what to look for will allow you to have more fun as you learn more about thailand.

Phuket is the most expensive place in thailand and patong is the most expensive place in phuket so local thais are unlikely to go there for holidays. All puyings there are looking for carrot heads. Dont think your 'decent girl' is poor girl ; most probably makes more money in a month than you in a year! Maybe 15-20 years ago still can find apperciative girls who stay with you just for a good holiday but money talks now especially in Patong.

I agree, Patong has become too expensive. The price/quality ratio for girls is now ridiculous, in particular during peak season. Too many regular tourists, who apparently have no idea of what an asian beautifull girl looks like and how much to pay, have spoilt the market.
Better go to Pattaya. Everything is 30% to 50% cheaper, including more pretty (and most of all younger) girls than in Phuket. But the Beach is shitty, to be honest!

Yep, Phuket is definitely the most expensive place in Thailand. That's why the Thais don't really like to visit Phuket and it's full of crazy foreigners. But I still think the place is great. But when compared to the likes of Singapore, Hong Kong, and other places in Asia the standard of living in Phuket is still cheap. I guess as a tourist you just have to get away from the tourist traps and try your best not to get scammed into pay much more for things. But that's just the way a tourist town is like. Live and learn. That's it for now.

PHUKET: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bangkok, who oversees the Royal Thai Embassies and Consulates worldwide, today confirmed that visa fees will be levied for all visa classes from March 5, 2010.

Tourist visas are valid for a 60 day-stay and may be extended at local Thai Immigration offices.

Foreigners entering Thailand under the Tourist Visa Exemption category (free of charge) must possess a return or onward ticket plus adequate finances for the duration of stay in Thailand.

The permitted length of stay given is 30 days when entering via an International airport, or 15 days if entering through land border crossing or sea border.

Tourist visa exemption countries are: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bahrain, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Iceland, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, Kuwait, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Oman, Philippines, Portugal, Qatar, Singapore, Spain, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States of America and Vietnam.

Thailand holds bilateral agreements on visa exemption for holders of passports from Brazil, South Korea and Peru, and these passport holders are given a 90-day stay.

Leaving for HKT tonight flying Jetstar (my preferred budget airline, though I hope to fly SQ once in a while) from T1 of Changi Aiport. Previous time there was in 1999 & before the tsunami, so very exited to see how the place has changed since then.

Staying at C&N hotel which a few SBF bros has recommended because it is near to Bangla Rd (when I see this word, my mind pronounced it as "bangalah" road) & girl friendly. Was looking at the Jungceylon Shopping Mall website when I realized it is connected to Millennium Hotel (Patong)!!! Rooms are really nice & hi-so but the price is still affordable in my opinion. Any bros know whether it is also girl-friendly??? My initial guess is it is not girl-friendly.

Leaving for HKT tonight flying Jetstar (my preferred budget airline, though I hope to fly SQ once in a while) from T1 of Changi Aiport. Previous time there was in 1999 & before the tsunami, so very exited to see how the place has changed since then.

Staying at C&N hotel which a few SBF bros has recommended because it is near to Bangla Rd (when I see this word, my mind pronounced it as "bangalah" road) & girl friendly.

Watch out for tsunami bro junkie2807... The earthquake in Chile was of 8.8 in Richter's scale :eek:

BTW C&N hotel is very good in every aspect, except that there was this stale smell in my room which was often caused by poor ventilation. I tried to open the window as much as possible but couldn't get rid of it. Wonder if it was just my room or same for every room...

Just woke up not too long ago... Last night was great... Reached hotel & was very satisfied with the location of the hotel & the general state of the rooms... No bathtub but doesn't matter... No stale smell in the room so I guess it could be an isolated incident... Placed out bags in the room & went to look for some food as my bro was hungry as he had a fun time the precious night prior to our flight... After that went to Soi Crocodile as a friend in SG knows the boss of the entire Soi... OMG!!! He owns the whole Soi & literally everybody that works here shows him the respect that we do not see very often in SG...

We brought him some red wine as recommended by our S'pore contact & he very graciously accepted our humble gift... Sat around the bars & went to the back of the Soi where they held the "Tiger" shows... Really an eye-opener for me to see girls showering each other & smoking cigarettes with their pussies... The best part was when she removed many razor blades attached to a long string from her vagina... Other then that, it was babes galore...

Soon it was getting late & we went to the next Soi where almost everybody was going to Hollywood Disco for more drinks & of course, looking for a Lerner to spend the night with...

Patong is definitely more happening in terms of night time entertainment as everything is in one place and it's all catered for tourists. Saying that the entire place is a tourist trap. You'll know what I mean once you get there.

Phuket town not so happening but there are a few joints you can go to for some "Companionship." The places are more for locals but if you do go you won't feel unwelcome but language may be a bit of problem if you don't speak Thai.

Personally I prefer Phuket town as I'm a bit sick and tired of Patong. I like Phuket town as things are more civilized so to speak and I think the girls in general are prettier and you get locals out for the night as well. I'm also local and speak Thai so it's a bit easier for me.

Read up on some of the older posts and you'll have an idea. Either way, I'm sure you'll still have fun.

As a general rules cheap hotels and guesthouses in Patong are GF (broadly speaking correspond to around max 1600 peak season, max 1100 low season). More expensive hotels aiming at regular tourists, families, etc...may not be GF (which means they ask for a joiner fee). Ex. Patong Bay Garden Resort ask for 1000 for joiner fee, which is the price of a ST in Pating (sic!).
So I agree it's better to check by mail or fax if they charge a joiner fee, in particular in more expensive hotels.

Bro, you got that right. After walking around the area, it is the best available option in the area if you want to be near to Bangla Road. Save on tuk tuk fares, save on time & the rooms are cheap & clean.

If hotels are not GF, they will allow you to have a thai girl with you at no extra cost only if you stay (and register) with the same girl (and often only if you check-in with the girl). In most of the cases, booking a double will not change much if you bring different girls. Just send them an email asking if they charge a joiner fee if you bring girls to your room. Well i am staying in Andamanhill right now ... heading bck Sing tomorrow ... well its GF ... outside the hotel there are 2 shops renting bike ... rate is 180 - 200 bahts per day. Well those who r riding pls ride carefully ... cause my bike skidded and have to go to the hospital to have my wounds clean ... well this time only visited Tiger Discos for a day b4 the accident ... thai friend also bring me to phuket town ... bossy .... a place good for guy ... timberhut a nice small pub and also visited a pub call "forte" ... minus the accident i have an enjoyable trip althought i nvr cheong for most nights.

Wetdevil, sorry to hear about your accident and hope you recover soon. This is Phuket so the risks of riding around on a bike is quite high due to all the idiots driving around and especially if you're not local and not used to how people drive here.

But considering the short time you had you managed to get a good dose of the night life in Phuket from Patong to Phuket town. What did you think of Bossy? I enjoy it there since it's nicely done up and probably prettiest girls around. Were the models still there when you went? They're the ones that walk around only wearing g strings and bras.

I used to visit Forte alot as well before Bossy opened as they used to have girls there like Bossy but in the end the place kind of died out and they changed it to just a regular bar with live band and got rid of the girls. It's been pretty much dead since. Was it busy when you were there?

For something more Western and chill but still nice would be Joe's Downstairs which is just next to Baan Rim Paa and down the steps and even closer to the water. Both are owned by the same owner actually.

There's actually an Italian restaurant next to Joe's Downstairs as well also owned by the same owner but I don't like it as the ambiance just isn't that great.

Both places are nice and romantic but price is on the high side. Go check out their website. I don't know what the website is but it will definitely come up on Google. Cheers and have fun.

wocoelan73, if you plan on only staying in Patong then you will barely have any fishtank experience. As bro rapier said, the closest you will get there would be Christin massage. Patong is farang (Ang Moh) style so it's very much a bar and club style scene. But if you're just looking for a girl to tabao then they're literally walking, dancing, working, breathing, or eating all over the place in Patong. You really can't miss them!!

The whole fishtank thing is more Thai or Asian style so you need to venture a bit further away from Patong and into Phuket town. Slightly more hassle if you don't speak Thai but it's not impossible so long as you have a bit of fun out of it with sign language and lots of smiles. Probably a good place to go to would be Fantasia in Phuket town which is a huge place. Used to be an old theatre now converted into a lounge with loads of girls to choose from. Well, at least there were lots of girls the last time I was there which is some time ago now. But I don't think it's changed that much. I think this would be easiest for you. But if you are really adventurous then you can consider wandering into the depths of Phuket town and hit Phun Phon area which has a few fish tank massage joints and a few Thai clubs as well. Never been to these massage joints before so can't tell you what the quality is like. But this is like really local stuff.

For a nice Thai club with girls then head into Phuket town to Bossy Bar more or less across from the Royal Phuket City Hotel. It's a nice place with live band and overall good looking coyotes. My favorite local drinking hole.

truestory, walk around Patong and go to all the regular joints there and you will come across some hot ones but not all are going to be your so called "model" types. But put some effort and you will find some.

As for Bossy then you've come to the right place. I have no shame in declaring myself the resident Bossy expert. :p Spent way too much time and money there!!!

Bossy is like your Singapore Thai bars with live band and in general prettier girls and the place is also quite nicely decorated. It's a local joint catered for Thais therefore girls are more fair skin etc etc. You know what I mean!! They also regularly bring in "models" which are usually prettier, fairer, taller, bigger boobs, CFM looks, and sluttier attitude. Last time I was there they just shipped in 8 of them and a few were pretty damn hot!! Then there are the regular girls as well and they're usually OK as well. The 3 bar tenders are cute as well with a pair of twins but they're off limits as they're just bar tenders. But you can chat with them and buy them drinks if you like given that you can speak Thai.

In terms of tabao, first of all language will be a problem as most of these girls don't speak English unless you happen across one that has worked in Singapore or something like that. Second, it's a bit delicate too as technically the girls there don't go with customers. But of course this is all a bit of smoke and mirrors. If you make it known to the manager/mamasan early in the evening that you want to bring a girl home with you and ask which ones are available. I say it's delicate as the girls also don't want the other girls to know that she goes with customers. Usually the "models" that are brought in are "for sale" but again this is not 100% so do check first. If you do find a girl you like and have her sit with you the whole time then you have to buy lady's drink for her all night. This is usually shots of Tequila. But 5 to 10 spread out through the night is usually considered to be very generous and they cost 200 Baht each for the normal girls and 300 for the models.

This is basically the jist of it but keep in mind the scene in Bossy isn't like in Patong where it's pay, fxxk, and leave. Not as "extreme" so to speak. Bossy is a bit more of developing the relationship. I know it sounds silly considering the whole situation but it's all a matter of playing the game and giving face etc etc.

last time I went which was last year CNY.I only stayed at patong so I went to Cristin. The prices were from 1500 to 2500 but I can tell you even though there were about 20++ girls but none were even consider ok looking. All below average. Not worth it at all.

If your hotel is in Patong beach then you won't be that far off Tiger disco. Basically all you have to do is make your way to Bangla road which is a walking street and it's filled with bars, clubs, and girls on the whole street. It's the main drag in Patong. Just walk and explore.

100 Baht is actually considered quite a bit in Thailand. At least for local standards. Tourists regularly tip 100 Baht which kind of spoils the market. If you're talking about in a bar or club I wouldn't tip the waitress or bar tender 100 Baht every time you order a drink otherwise you'll rack up a few hundred baht just on tips in no time. I think 40 would be OK just so to make sure they give you good service throughout the night. If you're having a noodle on a street stall then it's not even necessary. In normal restaurant then 40 baht or so is OK. Nice fancy restaurant then a few hundred.

But if you're talking about tipping a girl then I'd suggest at least a few hundred more or she'll probably laugh at you for tipping her 100 Baht.

I'm afraid there's not much action up where you are. You're also pretty far away from Patong. I think it's easiest if you arrange a car with the hotel to bring you guys to Patong and back. May be a bit expensive but this way no need to worry about being drunk and trying to find transport back to Nai Yang. Once you're in Patong and on Bangla road then you're all set. Plenty to see and do there.

I strongly recommend that you don't get drunk and cause a scene in Patong. As a tourist you're always on the loosing end. I always say, "a smile goes a long way in Thailand."

Another board member also stated here earlier that the Thais are all smiles until you really piss them off and they will kill you. Thais are very extreme in this sense.

This is not meant to scare anyone off as it's very safe to go partying in Phuket or Thailand in general. Just some common sense and understanding of local cultures.

Hope you manage to get out and have some fun.

I'm sure alot of people with plans to visit are watching the news back home and thinking it may not be such a good idea to come to Thailand now and cancel or change their plans.

Overall the Red Shirts are causing alot of financial loss to the country and spoiling the country's image. All a bit sad and shooting oneself in the foot on the long run. I hope the situation improves and not get any worse than it is.

A YOUNG tourist from Singapore is to be flown home from Phuket on a special flight tonight after a disastrous jet-ski crash off Patong beach.

Four friends who were holidaying with Loh Ying Jie, 25, criticised the lack of urgency and the lack of prompt medical attention in the aftermath of Friday afternoon's crash.

They spoke on condition of anonymity to Phuketwan in the intensive care unit at Bangkok Hospital Phuket in the hope that the system on Phuket's beaches can be improved to prevent future disasters.

The young man's parents and sister flew to Phuket with a Singapore doctor after hearing of the incident. They were to fly back to Singapore on the special medical evacuation flight tonight.

One friend said that the patient's condition and vital signs had stabilised sufficiently for the flight.

Ying Jie has been treated in intensive care at Bangkok Phuket Hospital after an emergency brain operation. At first, though, he was taken to the less well-equipped Patong Hospital.

His friends believe delays in several aspects of the incident may now hamper his potential recovery.

''If this had happened off Singapore, there would have been an SOS helicopter on the scene within minutes,'' one of the four said.

The five young men, friends through two years of college and two years of national service, arrived on Phuket on Thursday and were staying at the Deevana Resort.

The friend involved in the incident on the jet-skis said that the only message to them from the jet-ski operators was ''Don't crash.''

There was no briefing as to what potential dangers they might encounter on the water and only the most perfunctory sign of care.

Police said they were called to the crash scene, off Patong beach opposite the Graceland Resort.

The young man said he came over the top of a wave and was blinded by spray, crashing into his friend.

''It was an accident,'' he said. ''I wish we had been told what to expect out there.''

The other friends and the jet-ski operator provided assistance to help the injured man to the beach. But the jet-ski operators had no numbers for emergencies, for ambulances or for hospitals, so precious time was lost before a number was found.

It was a ''pretty long time'' before an ambulance and police arrived.

The injured man was taken to Patong Hospital, where an examination revealed he would have to be transferred to Bangkok Phuket Hospital for an operation.

The jet-skis were hired at 2pm and the operation to remove a blood clot from his brain too place about 5.45pm or 6pm, his friends said.

''The police insisted on all four of us staying at the station for questioning,'' one friend said. ''If two of us had been questioned while the other two went with our injured friend, it would have possibly produced a better and speedier outcome.''

The young men were surprised that full medical facilities are not available at some point close to the beach, and astonished to discover there are no lifeguards on any of Phuket's beaches.

Ironcially, on Friday morning the Phuket Provincial Administrative Organisation agreed to appoint a new lifeguard company, which will restore lifeguards to Phuket's most popular beaches for the first time since mid-November, when the previous contract expired.

Interviewed on Friday by Phuketwan, PPAO chief executive Paiboon Upatising said that there was now one standard number for all emergency calls on Phuket. The number is 1669.

When asked tonight to nominate the most important lesson from his friend's catastrophe, one young man said: ''Travel insurance.''

The friends, who arrived on Phuket on Thursday, are due to fly home on Monday.

Phuket's registered jet-skis were insured in a world-first last year to try to stem the number of extortion scams perpetrated by operators.

But the insurance only covers the machines, not the riders.

It is expected to be several weeks before Phuket's new lifeguards are fully trained and capable of rescues and revival techniques.

This isn't Singapore so you can't expect the same kind of infrastructure as you would find at home when an accident occurs. You're pretty much responsible for yourself when you rent a jet ski or do other similarly risky activities.

Technically speaking people with no understanding of operating jet skis shouldn't even be on one in the first place. Yes it seems simple enough and what can happen when there's so much space around. Keep in mind every single jet ski in Patong bay zipping around is just about as clueless as the next one when it comes to operating one and proper navigation. You become a danger to yourself and others in the water. Especially swimmers. Many tourists get run over by jet skis in Patong every year.

Well, things are not perfect but at least now you don't have to worry about the jet ski scams like before where jet ski operators resort to extortion and threats for minor or false damages. They all have to have mandatory insurance now to avoid this damaging behavior to the tourist industry. It's a small step forward.

Again, everyone should just be a little careful and use their common sense when visiting other countries. But most important of all, have fun!!

A YOUNG TOURIST, seriously injured in a jet-ski crash on Phuket, died this morning in a Singapore hospital. His death 11 days after a collision off Patong beach that left him in a coma may lead to a manslaughter charge against the friend who was riding the other jet-ski in the incident.

A charge could come as soon as the courts return after the Songkran New Year holiday break next week. The young man who may face the count was one of five friends from college and national service who came from Singapore to Phuket to enjoy a five-day holiday.

Patong chief of police Colonel Arayapan Pukbuakao said today that whether a charge was laid against the young man probably depended on the parents of the young man's dead friend, Loh Ying Jie, 20. It is believed the parents, who flew to Phuket with a daughter as soon as they heard of the collision, have asked for compensation from the other boy's family.

An offer has been made but it is not considered to be sufficient. The boys were not covered by travel insurance.

Joh Ying was flown home in a special medical evacuation flight on Sunday April 4, and the four friends were due to fly home the following day. When Phuketwan spoke to the young men in the intensive care unit at Bangkok Hospital Phuket that Sunday evening, the four were anticipating they would all fly home as planned the following day.

It is believed that one of the boys subsequently had his passport retained by police.

Colonel Arayapan said he had had a telephone call from the Singaporean Ambassador today, informing him that Joh Ying had died. Police hope to have a clearer picture of likely developments on Wednesday morning. The wake for Joh Ying is also believed to be taking place in Singapore on Wednesday.

When Phuketwan spoke to the four friends, conversing in the IC unit within meters of their injured pal, all four agreed to tell their story on condition that they remained anonymous.

They wanted to speak out because they believed that safety standards surrounded the hire of jet-skis in Patong were not good enough, that the beach operators had no knowledge of emergency numbers, that help was slow to arrive, and that precious time was wasted taking the young man to a hospital that did not have the necessary equipment to treat his head injury appropriately.

They were upset that all four were questioned by police, believing that two of them could have answered questions while the other two helped to expedite their friend's treatment.

There is one major discrepancy between the young mens' account of what took place, and the account by the jet-ski operator that subsequently formed the basis of the police report. The jet-ski operator said that three jet-skis were involved in the collision, in the water opposite the Graceland Resort. However, all four young men were adamant that only two jet-skis crashed.

One young man admitted he had been blinded by spray as he came over a wave and struck his friend, but that the jet-ski operators had failed to adeqately warn them of the dangers of the vehicles beyond saying: ''Don't crash.''

The four were also surprised to find that Patong beach has no lifeguards, a situation true of all popular tourist beaches on Phuket since mid-November. Although registered jet-skis have been compulsorily insured since the clamor surrounding jet-ski damage extortion scams last year, riders are not insured.

A long-running debate about whether the jet-skis should be allowed to continue free-range operations at key Phuket beaches is likely to be reignited by the death of the young man and the evidence that due care and responsibility seem to be missing at Patong and probably other beaches, just as lifeguards are absent.

Phuketwan has learned the name of the young man who may face a charge this week but is withholding it because of our undertaking for he and his friends to remain anonymous.

for the price u pay for holiday inn, u might wanna try Courtyard by Marriott at Patong Beach, a new hotel opps holiday inn. I stayed there last year and it was worth it.

as for food, go opposite C&N hotel..there are 2 outlets side by side and both are very cheap..

Bro, i just go to any shop which sell Thai Food, as if u r hungry at 1700hr Thai time u can go to the Back of Jungceylon where all the Thai Hawker will start their stall, n izzt nice n cheap, if u want good n nice Noodle soup u got to walk all the way to the back of the T-Juntion of it n on the right there is a nice one just beside the Family Mart just $35B n they can speak simple English so dun worry, ;)

Enjoyed the nightlife in Bangla Road.
Wow! Realy Superb entertainment.
Most Vibrant city.

You can try to stay ay Expet Hotel at patong or further down at soi nanai call kelly hotel around 15 to 20 mins walk to bangla.. hotel dun charge joiner...
summer breeze hotel at soi sanbai very near bangla road also no joiner fee.....
