Those who have only tourist visa have to return by next month....I think probably a few hundred....

So even vaccine is available now, Singaporean would still won't be allowed for travelling overseas for holiday until lical service sector has recover substantially, I predict that this won't be happening until 2023. So expect long waiting time. By that time, Batam would be totally different, Balai will be dead, like another Batu.

Call horizon ferry yesterday to ask whether my ferry ticket bought at harbourbay expired in june can still be used. The staff said depend on the colour of the ferry ticket.

Then I ask her roughly when can spore and batam open border. She told me according to some source, the earliest batam and spore border to open will be end of next year 2021.
(One and a half year later)

So maybe no need to wait till year 2023...

Minister Lawrence Wong confirmed on Friday (17 Jul) that “travel for leisure” will be unlikely till the end of 2020.

On the bright side, those who travel for “essential” purposes – business conferences & overseas meetings – will probably be able to do so.

We summarise what else the Covid-19 taskforce has outlined in terms of travel plans till the end of this year below.

‘Avoid all travel’ is still Singapore’s advisory
Based on the unfolding global pandemic, the government’s official stance for travel remains consistent with earlier advisories,

This is in line with research done by the cross-ministry Covid-19 taskforce which understands that though the situation is in flux, the virus is “unlikely to go away” around the world.

Minister Wong added that the timeline we’re looking at is that Covid-19 will remain “even till next year”.

In the short-run, since the global situation is unlikely to improve, Singapore’s travel advisory will stay unchanged, he reasoned.

That’s why we can expect that leisure travel will still not be advised, as it remains ‘non-essential‘.

We’re extra bummed that leisure travel till the end of 2020 seems off the cards for now, as the world continues to combat the coronavirus.

However, with the global case count hitting 14 million with over 600k deaths, it’s definitely prudent to reopen travel in a measured way — to minimise the risks of second or third waves of infections.

Perhaps it’s time to look into a local staycation or BBQ at a chalet instead, to round out an eventful 2020. We’d prioritise only your closest loved ones for the guest list, just to be extra safe.

Even though, zero cases in batam, we are not allowed to enter batam, unless have a kitas, and the 14 days lockup....
We may have to forget about batam, and wait for the vaccine.
Those without the kitas, have to leave by end of the month....

Going to batam is not an issue, no need to quarantine for 14 days if you have the long term pass or indonesian pasport

The issue is only when come back to singapore have to pay $200 for swab test and $2000 for designated 14 days SHN place.

Currently the no. of cases is extremely high in Jakarta and Surabaya and Batam is open and accessible from these 2 big cities.

Therefore spore will not allowed border with batam to be opened even though batam no. of cases are low..

(Unlike Msia during Movement Control Order disallow inter-state travel)

I pity those who have families in batam, they may be able to send money but this is not the same.

Yes, its actually not money issue, but the husband/father cant visit batam to see the wife/kids. That caused stress to the many families.
But if compare to many locals normal family that are suffering now. Family with a sporean husband, will still be able to live in comfort in batam.

My neighbourhood in batam have around 12 families with sporean husband. Good things are, all these sporean wivies always have gethering, share info on the covid-19 issue, have listening ear when in stress and of course gossip.

There is a big whatsapps group also, with only sporean wivies in batam from different various part of batam. I heard from my wife, many in the group been feeling very stressful in this period due to their sporean husbund cant enter batam.

I look back yr post on 13 mar, looks like u were already in the "new normal" at batam since b4 mid mar 2020.

My thoughts were this, when you are safe, i can also be safer. If the girls can be safe, then i can also be safer too,hehehe...

Happen to met an elderly Indonesian man (probably nearing 70s) in Singapore last month, he tells me covid is nothing in Indonesia. Just 2 tabs of panadol and 2 dose of antibiotic would solve the problem.

I told him to put his face mask back on as he didnt have his mask covering up to his nose and shares with him that in India, covid is also nothing there too. According to some news article, 2 cups of cow urine and 2 bowls of horse dung can solve it.

End of the day, result speaks for itself.

Singapore's COVID-19 restrictions will be eased again on Jun 19, with the start of Phase 2 of reopening. The Government said community infection rates have been stable, while the situation in large clusters and migrant workers' dormitories has also stabilised.

Hehehe...i already have some aunties and uncles starting to book my bring-along trips to Batam since phase 2 starts.

My answer to them, prepare at least S$2400.

S$200 for those swab/PCR test going there, another S$200 for the same test when returning. The rest of the money, be prepared to pay for quarantine expenses. And thats not including the payment for treatment if the test result
turned positive,hehehe... :D

In major change, Indonesia set to relax property rules for foreign buyers, says minister

JAKARTA - Indonesia is set to relax property rules soon to make it easier for foreigners to own homes in the country, a Cabinet minister said on Thursday (July 23), in a major change that could spur the slumping economy.

Agrarian and Spatial Planning Minister Sofyan Djalil told property tycoons in a webinar that the new property rules set to be ratified into law by the end of next month (August), will allow foreigners to have the same rights as Indonesian property buyers.

"On this foreign ownership matter, God willing… we will have (the Bill that covers the matter) ratified into law by end-August," Mr Sofyan said in the Web seminar attended by the country's top property tycoons.

"That is the commitment from Parliament and President Joko Widodo had requested for such a timeline to be the deadline."

Among the webinar's participants were Mr James Riady of the Lippo Group, Mr Muktar Widjaja of the Sinar Mas Group and Mr Sugianto Kusuma of Agung Sedayu group.

The government's plan to loosen the property rules comes amid the coronavirus pandemic that has shrunk the economy and caused massive job losses.

South-east Asia’s biggest economy was estimated to have shrunk by at least 3 per cent in the second quarter year on year, compared with a 5 per cent growth last year.

The Indonesian property sector supports at least 170 other industries from cement, steel and the creative industries such as interior decor. The sector employs more than 30 million people or about 11 per cent of the country's population.

Foreigners are currently allowed to buy apartments, but not landed homes, in Indonesia and they only get a 30-year leasehold titles for these units, which made it tough to get bank loans.

The 30-year leasehold is extendable by another 20 years upon application. Buyers could also later apply for an additional 30-year extension to the leasehold atop the 50-year lease.

But this has posed a big stumbling block for foreign buyers and soured demand, as Indonesian law could change in between their applications.

In contrast, Indonesians who buy properties in the country generally get a freehold tenure to their homes, or leaseholds with guaranteed extensions.

Further, in many other foreign countries, such as Singapore and Malaysia, leasehold titles have terms of more than 90 years at one go.

Mr Sofyan said President Joko and the government are concerned with the current inflexible clauses of ownership and want them changed.

He said that the administration is keen to upgrade the ownership title status given to foreigners when buying homes.

But Mr Sofyan did not say if the expected amendment to the law would allow the non-Indonesians to also buy landed houses.

Responding to Mr Sofyan's August timeline, Mr Sugianto said in the webinar: "It is the right timing if the change happens in August, because everyone is waiting for this. It would drive the property sector."

Mr Sugianto suggested that the change should be accompanied by regulations that allow foreigners and their family to a have long stay visas or permanent residency like other countries such as Malaysia and Thailand.

"Other countries give 10-year multi-year visa for the whole family of the foreign home owners. If Indonesia gives five-year and it's extendable, that would be good enough," he said.

Mr Muktar suggested that foreign home buyers should be given access to financing. He said they should be allowed to pledge the title of the units they buy to a bank to get a mortgage.

"The property sector has huge multiplier effects. Foreigners buying homes in Indonesia are bringing in money. They can't take the property to their home country," Mr Muktar said. His comments were seen as an attempt to assuage nationalist sentiments frequently expressed in Indonesia by those opposed to foreigners being allowed to own property.

Mr Riady, meanwhile, took issue with the tax office's recent moves to question prospective buyers of large properties. The moves have dissuaded the buyers being probed.

Indonesia has in recent years stepped up tax collections, applying a harsher law enforcement on errant tax-payers.

"We need to simplify this - the query on where-the-money-is-from part. We have had clients who were about to make a transaction and were then drilled by the tax office. They ended up cancelling the purchase," he said.

Since u have such innovation while in batam, let me give u more ideas to fulfill your fetish the next time u are there! :D

313563

The rest below were just samples of what u can look fwd to. :D

(i'll hide the rest to avoid complaining ppl)

Wear inside Batam hotel room or perhaps some KTV rooms and for your eyes only, i think should be fine. But if gonna wear that out to Newton disco or other Batam pubs, i think may cause some trouble for you and your girls,hehehe... :D

Its a good idea but for limited eyes only. :p

ferry companies must be very jialat

In what way/s?

They have cut the number of staffs, they have moved to another area with lower rental. Most of those still at work have their salary cut. Government has subsidized them up to 75% of overhead cost. And as long as they can pull through this difficult time, i think they are likely to welcome a big boom in business in time,hehehe...

Many industries in Singapore is either very busy or very free. Very free type might be awaiting close shop, very busy ones (like where i am) would be cursing and swearing, as bosses tends to exploit the current situation to squeeze every single drops of blood from their workers. :D

Covid-19, its the "boss's" market,hehehe...

I have a few more horizon ferry ticket horizon voucher that given by the restaurant...can i.still use them? But expire date already over..

Expired vouchers/coupons i think cannot use anymore. In earlier times, Horizon ferry has advise me to pay S$28 to convert those vouchers/coupons to actual physical tickets. Those physical tickets will have an expiry date of 6-months-border-open date.

And i have converted quite a number of them,hehehe...have said the above, the terms and conditions on those tickets remains. Travelling on weekends still gonna cost another extra S$10 more.

Horizon is smart. Even during covid time, they are still (or trying to) making money.

You can try call them and tell them you still have some expired coupons/vouchers and wish to convert them to tickets, they might just agreed to it. I mean, as in got money to earn, who would have reject. And if they were to reject, it can only means they have "earned enough",hehehe... :D

too risky to go within this year

Agreed, i already push back all my Batam tripplans until at least till close to year end of 2020 or beginning of 2021 (since mid March 2020).

I try not to miss CNY2021 in Batam. :D

Come to think of it, i need to renew my passport soon,hehehe...

Thanks nono! Really appreciate your info. Stay safe!!!

You too. When you guys (and the girls) are safe, i can be safer. Likewise vice-versa too, i believe. :p

Cheers!

A National Registration Identification Card, or NRIC, is the identity document used in Singapore for Singapore citizens. A Foreign Identification Number, or FIN, is issued to an individual who is a permanent resident of Singapore and long-term pass holders by the Singapore government.

Hope the above answered your question.

A place/country safe or not safe, not base on the population vs ppl infected. Coz no one will really know the actual no., as no place/country tested the whole nation.

Must quickly go to get the Retirement Temporary Stay Permit(ITAS-Lansia)
As I look through the requirement this should be the easiest and simple path.

Huh? Got age limit or not? If have, then i might not be qualified. :o

Guess its useful for Batam stayer.

Now just wait for Pak Rudi to declare Batam as Green Zone and apply to Central Government to reopen Batam for tourist.
Once that happened, will be no more 14 days Quarantine in Batam, most is need to show a negative result for Covid-19 or swab test on the spot upon arrival. Slowly that can be excuse also..

Indonesian since weeks ago enter batam, no need quarantine, no need swab test, only fill up a health card, thats all, simple and easy..

Hmm...looks like the criteria for taking a plane within Indonesia and taking a ferry is a bit different.

I hear from the girls that taking a plane (domestic flight), compulsory need to do some covid PCR and/or swab test before they are allow in. And they need to pay for it. Cost can adds up to between 200k rupiah to 2.5 juta. :(

Writing those test off wont be a good thing but not writing that off, the airlines and its industry may have an economic impact.

Banks are not allowed to give property loan or car loan to foreigners...what are the scams ?

Ok this one need to type very long :D

Yes KPR is a process of housing loan.

There are many foreigners buying houses using their Wife/GF/Mistress's name. And most of these ladies are unemploy.
Base on what to take loan from Bank.
Bo tai bo chi bank give 650juta loan

KPR normally is 10-15years
650juta 15years installment will be around payment of 1m+.

So property agent will normally recommend a person so call "orang legal". He should be handling all necessary docuements and liaise with the bank loan department. The type of ppl usually have friend working in the bank. He will make up the 12 months payslip, employment letter, and even a "real" company position during the bank survey the "working place". All these is formality that need to submit to bank while taking loan and even the bank personal knew thats all faked. The loan will still be approved. Thats the duty of this "orang legal", of course buyer will need to pay him a fee.
Thats alright, coz he will do everything, buyer just sit song song wait for loan to approve.

What i mean scam is some so call "orang legal" who dont have connection with bank, but pretend to be have many contact with bank.
Asking for upfront full payment of the fee, and claim if loan not successful, will refund 80% of the fee. In the end just pass the buyer some print out salary slip, an employment letter but say he tried his best, too bad bank not approved and he go missing.

This could cause buyer to lose alot, coz before KPR, buyer need to pay a booking fee for the house. If KPR didnt get thru, buyer lose the "orang legal" fee and also the house booking fee. No refund on that.
Some agent will say yes at first, will refund if KPR not successful. But dont dream, the money wont be refunded.

Yes, if indonesian travel from spore to batam by ferry. No need quarantine and swab test.

If by flight, yes need swab test for their domestic travel.
And that swab result only valid for 14days. Once after 14days and wants to travel again. Need to test again.

This moment Batam hotel association is fighting for No Need Swab Test for domestic travel to batam. Requesting batam government to appeal to central government. Hotels in batam is dying fast. Since foreigner cant travel to batam, domestic traveller is their only hope. Hoping that without swab test for entry, will encourage more locals to go batam.
Recently a news stated for a family with 2 kids to domestic travel, swab test and results will cost 2-3juta. That make many local refused to travel.

Btw i believed after this covid-19 pandemic, Batam will have a New Era. you need to busy redo or update many info here. Many joints will close and sure new joints will open. Some maybe shifted and some may still have but change name. Recently one famous joint just officially declare bankrupt, close shop, the OKT sell house sell car.

Europe has not much to lecture about this. Newpapers here show often photos taken at discos in holiday locations, where at night hundreds of youngsters, pushed one against the other, dance, sing and sweat like if COVID is something of the past. Numbers are starting to grow in many countries in Europe, but detected numbers always follow reality by at least 1 or 2 weeks. I am not optimistic.

Tourism-dependent island hopes for borders to reopen

323815

Quiet streets, empty tables at restaurants, and deserted malls, karaoke centres and massage parlours have become a common sight on the Indonesian holiday island of Batam, just a ferry ride away from Singapore.

Many businesses, particularly hotels and travel agencies, on the island have been badly hit by the coronavirus outbreak since March, when the first positive cases in Indonesia were announced.

Batam Centre Ferry Terminal, which previously was bustling with tourists, mostly from Singapore, has turned into a ghost port as the coronavirus pandemic keeps stores shuttered and visitors at home.

Shop rents have been slashed by half but businesses, from fashion to food, have stayed shuttered. But as long as they do not close for good, "their rents would be reduced even if they don't operate", port worker Santi, 45, told The Straits Times.

Batam is located in the Riau Islands, a sprawling province of more than a thousand islands known locally as Kepri.

The province accounts for the second-highest number of international visitors to Indonesia after Bali. Of the 2.59 million foreign tourists who visited Indonesia in 2019, mainly to Batam and Bintan, nearly half were from Singapore.

While some of those who lost their jobs in Batam have returned to their hometowns, those who stayed on have struggled to make ends meet.

Food server Riswandi, 34, said he had to move in with a friend to save costs after his workplace, a popular restaurant selling sup tulang, or beef bone soup, shut down. "I need to find a new job, but even to find work as a restaurant helper is not easy in these hard times," he said.

Ms Rida Harahap, 23, a therapist at First Choice Spa and Massage centre, said she used to serve five customers a day before the coronavirus struck, but "even getting one now is difficult". Half of the company's 40 therapists have returned to their hometowns, she said.

"Even with a 50 per cent discount for each spa and massage service, business is still quiet. I don't know how long I can last in this job."

Provincial tourism chief Buralimar told ST he hoped the two countries could reopen borders as soon as possible, with health safeguards in place, adding: "Our tourism industry will surely recover if Singaporeans visit Kepri again."

Indonesia’s COVID-19 cases surpass China.

On July 2, Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investments Luhut Pandjaitan called Singapore Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan and they discussed the importance of keeping up positive bilateral cooperation even amid the pandemic.

Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said in a July 3 statement that "the call did not go into any specific discussions on tourism exchanges and cooperation".

"Singapore is gradually re-opening our borders in a progressive and calibrated manner, while ensuring the health and safety of Singaporeans and our international visitors... Singaporeans are still advised to defer all travel abroad," the MFA statement added.

The right time to start a hotel business in Batam!

Joking apart, what amazes me is that if I check the prices for Feb 21, I find that best prices at FourPoints Allium and Marriott HB are about 600k and 1300k, respectively, which is about 1 and 2 nights at our beloved Formosa, respectively again.

It looks like I will (when??? :() be able to stay at a Four Points paying the same I was used to pay at Formosa. It sounds excellent at first glance.

A number of questions arise though. At a Marriott hotel, would I be free to come and go with a variable number of girls any time I want as in Formosa? would I find the warm atmosphere I enjoyed for 10 years in Formosa? Last but not least, there will be SINTA??? :p

Indonesia has suspended visas free entry to visitors from all countries, no foreign tourist can go to Batam at the moment, so room rate for all hotels have reduce dramatically. Even they offer staying for free also no use because Singaporean cannot go there.

I wonder how large is that domestic market?
If I open a Marriott in Batam, it's because I rely on foreign visitors, more than Indonesian.

I still have on WeChat a girl I met several years ago (a good girl, not a "worker" ok?). She works as hostess at a family KTV at Nagoya Hill (I will not mention the name, but it's obvious), and I see they are back to business, with masks, temperature testing, etc. I am surprised there is people who wants to go to KTV, but until there are Indonesians living in Batam, there is people who wants to go to play at KTV.

Anyone in Batam could report how is the situation now? It must be desert lonely and poor. Or the local domestic tourism is enough to sustain some business? I wish so, for all local people who must work and make their living.

i doubt they can survive just based on their domestic markets. Room rates are still relatively expensive for locals.

then again I guess since they have been preparing for a long long time to open they have decided to just go ahead with reduced manpower to tide through.

not bad at all considering when travel resumes we can make use of them to retain our elite statuses.

Hehehe...you just said it. It's "official". :D

I dont even believe in Singapore's statistic, let alone Batam.

(remember those many days/years ago, when the PSi reading across JB was more than 350,other parts of Malaysia hitting as high as 500 but Singapore's PSi still less than 120...hehehe...)

Which is the exact reason why i multiplied Batam's covid statistic by 10 fold.

After multiplying by 10, isn't it still better than Singapore. That's the message i am trying to put across.

As for China, their politicians were some of the best mathematicians in the world.

Indonesia politicians failed maths pretty much quite badly,hehehe...i mean i am saying that base on my still limited understanding of their culture. Almost every governor of each province just want to run the show on their own, practically none wants to come together to work things out, hehehe...

Open statistic, especially so-called "official" ones were just for referencing only (at least for me, it is). The rest, would have to leave it to respective individual's own judgment. Everyone would probably come out with a different number anyway.

Accurate statistic record for any pandemic do not exist, hehehe...history shown me. ;)

The best way is import vaccines from Russia, let those who have vaccinated to travel overseas freely without quarantine and swabs test, even without any government subsidies still worthwhile. Swabs test plus quarantine cost at least $2000, i believe vaccines from Russia won't cost this much. More importantly, no need to worry about Covid anymore after getting vaccinated.

Small steps but we’re getting there eventually....

Key pointers from the news :

Travellers will have to take the first PCR test 72 hours before departure, and the second test upon arrival at the airport or ferry terminal. Travellers will bear the costs of the tests, said Mdm Marsudi.

Eligible travellers must also download and register themselves on the TraceTogether and SafeEntry mobile applications while in Singapore, or on the e-HAC and Peduli Lindungi applications while in Indonesia, she added.

Mdm Marsudi said applicants from Indonesia must have a sponsor from a government agency or enterprises in Singapore and request for a SafeTravel pass.

Singaporeans wanting to enter Indonesia must have a sponsor from the government or business entity and apply for a visa online.

More clinics in Singapore were able to do the covid-19 swab test. Recently my colleague's niece had a fever, went to see her doctor downstairs & got ask to do a quick swab test. Result came within 24 hours through her sms showing negative.

Asked her about the procedure, she says she was given 5 days MC & she had to be staying at home aka under SHN (Stayed Home Notice) until after her test result is out showing negative before she is lawfully able to step out.

Cost of test plus all the medication = S$10 (and she's a non-Singaporean)

I have been looking at loop holes through all those procedure since Singapore government has NOT been disallowing Singaporean. Its just that the so called "punishment" for non-essential travel is rather heavy.

On 26th October 2020, i will be looking at how those green lane thingy works before digging in further.

The whole implementation of those procedures were to prevent anyone or any Singaporean from catching covid-19 before & after travelling (to Batam in my case) anywhere out of Singapore.

1. How to get the certification from doctors that i have been corona-virus free is crucial.

2. Cost of test is also important (Singapore side). This one already solved.

3. How Batam side's reaction to Singaporean who has been tested corona-virus free going over is another important thing too. Example, do i need to take another test in Batam? And how much it would cost in rupiah.

4. Next would be going back to Singapore. How's the procedure going to be like, example would be be SHN or quarantine? or together with yet another test or both?

5. How not to step onto the line of "punishment" set by the Singapore Government?

Essential or no essential didnt quite matter much at this time. Most important, is to get that doctor certification & i can travel to Batam (ever since day 1 in mid March, Singapore has not restrict anything/anyone from travelling except for the "punishment" cost). And then get the coming back to Singapore procedure right.

Followed by to decide IF i can withstand those damages "created" by Singapore government if my travel falls under the category of non-essential.

11 more days to wait for government to finalize.

Just my analysis sharing.

* sometimes, when situation are blurry. But when it has been categorized (and analysis), the "picture" may becomes clearer.

** constructive discussion can make a clear picture even clearer, especially if i might have missed out some key things somewhere.

I feel like you mirror me (or viceversa). I was going to office 2-3 times a week even in March during lockdown in my country (I had some arguments to claim my activity at office was essential to the society).
As you say, the serious risk is taking trains during jam hours, but I always go on bicycle except when raining, when I take my car (this is not Singapore, normal people can have a car).

Just a short 45 minutes ferry ride away, Batam is a familiar getaway destination for Singaporeans.

Though popular with casual visitors and tourists, the island will only be welcoming essential travellers after applications begin next Monday (26 Oct).

With Batam as one of the entry points for Indonesia and Singapore’s reciprocal green lane, the holiday destination is getting ready to receive visitors for the first time in months.

The Covid-19 pandemic has put a halt to travels between Singapore and Indonesia since March this year.

Now, as Singapore business travellers plan their upcoming visits to Batam, the island is also preparing to welcome them.

At Batam Centre Ferry Terminal, the installation of Covid-19 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) swab test equipment is underway, reported The Straits Times (ST)

Officials have also conducted dry runs of arrival procedures, to ensure that every point of administration including the following run smoothly:

disembarking the vessel
taking the Covid-19 swab test

Further precautions like sanitisation of public areas and repainting of handrails will also be in place.

The agreement between Singapore and Indonesia on a travel green lane came on 12 Oct, ahead of applications which start on 26 Oct.

According to ST, applicants must be Indonesian citizens, Singapore citizens or Permanent Residents (PRs) to qualify.

They will also need a sponsorship from an Indonesian government or business, and a valid visa.

Similarly, travellers from Indonesia must receive sponsorship from a government agency or business here.

In all cases, they must have proof of negative Covid-19 tests from a recognised health institution before departing and after arriving.

Chance at revival for tourism-dependant Batam

The resumption of essential travels with Singapore is a bright spot for Indonesia as their struggle with the Covid-19 pandemic rages on.

Border closures had hit tourism-dependant Batam hard, leaving empty malls and eateries closing for good, reports ST.

Pre-pandemic, the Batam International Port welcomed about 5,000 travellers from Singapore and Malaysia everyday. At its peak, these numbers reached about 15,000.

While the green lane is expected to beckon the arrival of only 300 travellers in the first month, the number is still a relief after 7 months’ worth of losses.

Travellers will be able to book rooms at roughly 10 hotels, which are getting ready to host them soon.

A crucial first step to economic recovery

All around the world, economies are taking a big hit from the Covid-19 pandemic.

Opening Singapore up to essential business travels is a crucial first step towards our recovery. As of now, Singapore has already set up green lanes with countries such as Malaysia and China. We are also gradually loosening travel restrictions with other countries.

As things begin to look up, we can only hope that with everyone observing safety protocols, one day, leisure travels will be on the horizon too.

As long as you are not critical.
even though you have it.. but not critical , you have to treat it yourself.
unless you need respirator , then you can get admitted if the space allows .
my indo friend got it , so the wife and kids and the parents all went for the test.

only him and the wife and the kid got it. he rent a diff place and move his parents there.

he and the wife and the kid all self treat and recover. coz only mild symptoms , 2 weeks later they are cleared.

Believe or not, Singaporean can't go to anywhere in Indonesia before borders between Singapore and Malaysia reopen. The reason is because Malaysia is the main source of foreign workers supplier for Singapore, not Indonesia. The government will only prioritize to open up borders for the sake of the transit of foreign workers. With retail and service sector doing so badly here at yhe moment, the government is not eager to open up borders for Singaporean to go overseas to spend money, they want Singaporean to spend their money domestically, not only for the sake of retail and service sector here, also for the sake of GST revenue. So Singaporean can forget about going to Batam or other Indonesia islands close to Singapore until 2024.

Vaccines is already available in Russia now and soon will be available in USA, however most Singaporean probably won't be able to get vaccinated until 2023 as PAP government is kiasu and kiasi, they won't approve the Vaccines to be available here until they see majority of the population there have vaccinated and do not experience any side effect. Their wait and see and over caution attribute will prolonged the travel restrictions impose on Singaporean.

I am fantasizing the same.
Is Newton open or closed? Square?
Maybe open, because they disrgard COVID and simply do not care?
Or did Batam regress to a pre-industrial state, without nightlife and low business?

My fantasy is that the day I will be able to go back there freely, i will find a place in a condition close to what Batam was 20 years ago.
My hope is to reach the day I will be vaccinated and get a "vaccination passport", which will allow my to pass borders freely as before. Who knows...:(

Forget about spending 2021 CNY in Batam, may not even able to spend 2022 or even 2023 CNY in Batam. The main problem to what i see is not the virus but the government attitude. Basically those who have infected with Covid-19 and recover are already immune to virus for at least 6 months, however these group of people are still not allowed to travel freely despite having antibodies in their body. So don't expect the government will allow those who get vaccinated to travel overseas freely despite they're immune to the virus after vaccination. Want to go to Batam ? Wait long long and probably by that time Batam has already change completely, no longer fun to go there.

Even Batam reopen the 14 days quarantine requirement at government designated locations will still stop Singaporean traveling there for leisure. How many Singaporean willing to spend $2000 for 14 days quarantine just for few days holidays ? Just $200 for PCR here alone is enough to discouage Singaporean going there for short 2 to 3 days holiday. Although vaccines has already arrived and 95% of those who are vaccinated are immune to Covid, however it is highly unlikely that those who are vaccinated will be allowed travel freely overseas without PCR test and quarantine.

Even vaccinated people maybe protected only 6 months? So what’s the point.
Even the vaccines found to mutate into new strains. Life wont be back to normal yet. Yr 2022 and beyond maybe...
Although nobody can be sure about anything here, it is reasonable to be optimistic.

First, nobody said these vaccines provide immunity for only 6 months! What has been stated is that these vaccines provide immunity for at least 6 months.
Experimental trials have started in 2020. First test inoculations were given 6 months ago. Therefore, experimental results, to date, demonstrate some immunity (the famous 95%) lasting for these 6 months. Next year, hopefully they will find that immunity is still lasting in those persons, and those 6 months will be updated to 12 months. Maybe longer, mayne not. As of today, experimental data include only 6 months of trials.

To give a point of comparison, the common flue vaccines last some 12 months but have only 60% effectiveness. Other vaccines can last several years, even the whole life, but each virus is different. Only decades of experimental trials can prove it or disprove it.

By the way, 95% is VERY high. For some vaccines, it is not higher than 50%, still they are useful. Better to have a partial protection than nothing. One example is the vaccine against cholera, not better than 50%.

About the mutations of the virus, every virus mutate, but this does not mean necessarily that mutated versions are not covered by a vaccine. It depends what mutates, and how extended are mutations. For the HIV, they gave up. All vaccines failed, because it mutates too much and all mutations are around. For flue, the vaccine is effective, and can be "programmed" every year for the new virus (that is why we have to repeat vaccination every winter). For many other viruses, mutations are not wide enough to diminish the effectiveness of the current vaccines.

The good news about these new mRNA vaccines is that they can be programmed very easily for a new mutation. A new strain appears and the old vaccine is not effective? In few weeks they can prepare a new vaccine for this, using the same technology (the problem is producing millions or billions of the new vaccine while you still have millions of previous ones in stock). The good impact of COVID is that it forced the development of this new technology, which may be effective also for other diseases. Future will tell.

In short, there is a hope we can resume regular travelling in 2021, probably with an international certificate of vaccinations, as we do with Yellow Fever. At least, this is what we hope, but it is not irrealistic.

PS: One more thing. Do not confuse the immunity after healing from disease with the immunity induced by a vaccine. The latter has another level of strength. A vaccine forces a very strong immune system reaction, specifically for some portion of the virus which has been selected on purpose. If one has had COVID, still he should be vaccinated.

So if they tell you so long you are vaccinated, doesn't matter which brand of the approved vaccine. You are free to travel and even no SHN.

Will you just take the shot?

Since Indonesia is using sinovac, if Indonesia govt. say all sinovac vaccinated travelers no need quarantine on arrival.
(sinovac is one of sg vaccine choice, however its not yet approved by sg due lack of data for review.)

Again, will you take it?

For me, i rather not get vaccinated if the vaccines given is from China. I rather pay to get vaccinated with USA vaccines tan getting free China vaccines. Taiwan government has indicated that Taiwan won't approve China vaccines, sure got reason. Taiwan is the most successful country on earthbin handling the pandemic, the main reason is the Taiwan government is so distrust of China, they have started screening on all visitors arriving from China and impose entry ban on China residents long before any country has do so. That why Taiwan is so successful in containing of Covid even without access to WHO official infro. Since Taiwan government has rejected China vaccines completely, this show that China vaccines is not reliable, the data may be false. Better just go for USA vaccines. I hope that i git chance to get vaccinated before any China vaccines is approve for vaccination in Singapore,so i'll only be given good USA vaccines, not junk China vaccines.

Not surprise that there are some who strongly believe and support the China vaccine. :D. Just look at the forum vaccination poll. :p

Although there is no survey in Singapore, however i believe that majority rather not to get vaccinated if China vaccines uis given. UsA vaccines is over 90% effective, much higher than China vaccines. Probably China vaccines may not be approved to be use for vaccination here. However, the government may approve the use of China vaccines for political reasons, China CCP government will try hard to pressure other countries to use their vaccines. They want to beat USA. Indonesia government choose China vaccines despite it is inferior than USA vaccines maybe because of such reason. UsA vaccines is costly, can cost over US$100 to vaccinated one person, with so large population in Indonesia, Indonesia government simply cannot afford to vaccinated everyone with USA vaccines.

Singaporean basically can forget about going Batam for the next 4 years. Worst thing has happen, cross border travel will not normalize even everyone in Singapore has already vaccinated, let alone those who have vaccinated will be allowed to travel overseas for leisure despite they have already immune to Covid-19. Indonesia government has indicated that getting vast majority of population in Indonesia vaccinated takes 4 years provided everything go smoothly.

I believe vaccine passport only benefit foreign workers, especially Malaysian. They may be allow to resume daily commute between 2 sides if issue with vaccine passport. Singaporean may still won't be allowed for traveling to Batam for fun after vaccination. Basically the government is only interested to make foreign workers easier to come in to work. Until large number of foreign tourists coming into Singapore, the government is reluctant to allow Singaporean traveling overseas without any restrictions. The reason is clear, retail and service sector including casinos here currently depending on Singaporean spending to stay afloat, if the government allow Singaporean to travel freely overseas after getting vaccinated, retailers and service sectors here may not survive because Singaporean will be spending their money overseas and lack of tourists to fill the market.

ps.

If its a real $50 or $100 or even $1000 sgd hor i think many will surely take it. :p

Theory is similar. If in btm there's 1000 rp, 2000rp 5000rp & 10 000rp there probably nobody will pick up. But if it's S$2,S$5 & S$10, i think u probably wn't see it there for long.

Jus like those who believes tat corona virus is "invented" by china, will almost surely be buying sinovac. The inventor were more likely aldy hv the right antidote, isn't it? ;)

Time will tell.

Many world scientist now very worried about the P1 variant aka brazil mutated wuhan virus.

Coincident? The made in China Sinovac uses brazil as testing ground since last year. They found the vaccine have only 50.4% efficacy. So it makes people wonder if such low efficacy vaccine could be one of the reasons causes the mutation of wuhan virus.

China, the cuntry of lies sure hv many to hide here & there. Any1 with brains could see thru their lies & untrue words.

Ppl jus need to engage sm common sense. If virus came frm USA or any other cuntry, why the initial first mass infection onli occur in Wuhan? Hope nobody uses their A-hole to think & come telling me any cuntry has ability to hide/hold an outbreak of pandemic. Didn't China initial stage of the pademic aso tries to collaborate with WHO to hide it isn't it? & apparently couldn't made it as much as they couldn't do so in the past.

Gentle reminder, where do you think "those who're not sick DO NOT NEED to wear a mask" words came from when coronavirus 1st started? More like china using WHO to sabo every1 to me.

The influenza virus (aka flu virus) which keep mutating also uses vaccine thats have 50-60% efficacy.

Indonesia now using Sinovac. Need to pray hard the wuhan virus will not mutate there. :(

Watever the percentage turns out, 1 thing i've in mind. Doc give me panadol for my headache, he cannot guarantees me tat i will not hv headache again.

If i ever can travel to btm & could get my hands on sinovac vaccine, i'll take it at 1st sight. Even if i aldy taken Pfizer or other non-sino vac jab. :D

The guy who initial the poison surely have the antidote or smthg close to it. Taking the antidote don't guarantee i wn't get poison again. :p

Your dream of going batam is cumming true! :D

Obviously they caught wind of Singapore target to vaccinate all the above 60yo tikopek soon. :o Thats why aim april to open batam.

Although no news on they vaccinating the sex workers there. :p

But who knows? Maybe all the sex workers converted to be tour guides. :D

I'm not optimistic that Singaporean can travel to Batam for fun anytime soon. Indonesia government can open up Batam for Singaporean going there in April without quarantine requirement, but the problem is would Singapore government is willing to do the same or not. If Singaporean must serve 14 days SHN upon returning from Batam , what is the use ? Few people are willing to spend 14 days on SHN which cost $2000 just for 2 to 3 days trips. Singaporean who are vaccinated may be technically immune to the virus, won't get infection even expose to virus overseas or at least won't get seriously ill even get infected, but would the government allow Singaporean who have already vaccinated to travel and return without SHN or not still questionable. A minister has already spoken in public that leisure travel is unlikely within 2021. What i believe that main reason is the government is reluctant to allow Singaporean travel for leisure and spending their money overseas until large number of tourists have returned. In the past the government can tolerate large number of Singaporean going overseas and spending huge amount of money outside Singapore because there are over 200,000 foreign tourists spending their money in Singapore on any given day, although the currency outflow was great, but inflow even greater. Now foreign tourists are not coming and they won't come in anytime soon, if Singaporean are allowing to travel overseas freely for leisure, hotels and tourist attractions which currently depend on Singaporean spending will be hit even harder, even the 2 casino here are currently mainly depend on Singaporean gamblers. So thinking of going to Batam to enjoy, wait long long. Those ah pek may wait until the day they die or too weak to fuck girl still can't go.

so their stats indicate that Singaporean go there to play golf more than massage? ktv? night club? find FL? :D

I agree with all these points, Sg is no longer the foreign investment "honey trap" it was in past, Tamesek and GIC no longer producing the returns it was producing in the past, Sg no longer the advanced technical nation it was comparatively to its SEA neighbours. Not surprising as bulk of the investment portfolio are invest in China. Invest in China, prepare to kena makan by Chinese. China CCP government doesn't want foreigners to take advantage from Chinese. It is unlike investment in USA Europe, you can befit if you invest right. In China, while in China they will try hard to makan you once your investment reap massive benefits. Such thing has happened to most American and European companies there, they are force to transfer technology and copycat behavior commercial spying is common place in China.

Even if SG allow its citizens to go to Batam, it'll be for those who're already fully vaccinated. Meaning it has to be 2 weeks later after the 2nd dosage for Pfizer or Moderna vaccine. Not sure about other brands though. Hopefully no need to serve quarantine upon returning to SG for those who're vaccinated.

I suspect come back even no need serve SHN also must do like 2 times testing.

Actually its like roll back to the old days where not everyone can afford to go overseas for holidays.

Prepare to spend up to $500 just on transportation and Covid test. Covid test sure will be required both in Singapore and Batam, the cost could run over $300. Also don't expect ferry ticket to be as cheap as before, it may cost 2X or more this time. Also Nongsapura is far from Nagoya town, transport will cost a lot more. After spending so much on Covid test and transport, not worth to just go there for one or 2 days, so prepare to spend $2000 for a trip. So i believe even Singaporean can start going back there again, there won't be much Singaporean traveling there. That Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal and Nongsapura will be used, not Harbour Front Center and Batam Center.

Covid in Indonesia is still rampant. Doubt singapore gov will open up anytime soon, regardless what Indo gov says, perhaps 90% of locals here vaccinated, which is quite impossible figure to get. When they open vaccinations to those 45 n above, I read that only 55% of those above 60 got vaccinated only, which is to say many of the older ones refuse to take. To achieve 90% population? U figure out

Basically there is no tangible benefit for getting vaccinated early, those who are still vaccinated still can't travel for leisure, still subject to SHN and various Covid tests requirement, no different from people without vaccinated even though technically a person is already immune to the virus after 2 weeks of getting 2nd dose vaccine. So i doubt Singapore can achieve over 70% of population getting vaccinated. Anyway fatality rate of Covid is very low in Singapore, only 29 so far, less than people die of Dengue Fever here. Unless the government come out with policy that thise who are vaccinated can travel freely without quarantine and multiple Covid test requirement, otherwise Singaporean are not eager to get themselves vaccinated.

You still can carry covid even vaccinated. It just give a immunity against viral. You will be a mediator. May be can consider to reopen when all Indo peoples vaccinated within this year. And now there is a bird flu case first time found in human in China. Not sure it will be Another new pandemic or not.

PAP government doesn't want Singaporean going overseas to spend money until foreign tourists start coming here to spend money. As long as foreign tourists are not coming in large number like previously, Singaporean can forget about going to Batam or Balai regardless of how many percent of the population here have fully vaccinated. The government wants Singaporean to spend their money locally to support the retailers and hotels here. Currently customers for hotels and even casinos here are mainly Singaporean, government knows very well if Singaporean who have fully vaccinated are allowed to travel overseas, even just Batam now , many hotels here can't survive.

I will make my question more detailed. Probably you don't know, but if you know anyone on site, I die for curiosity to know what's going on there now.

1) "Massage" places (joints)? I guess all closed and disappeared for the moment. Or not?
2) "Regular" semi-legitimate massage places, as all those behind Utama Hotel?
3) Food courts? Why closed? what about locals and Indo business? I note that Marriott hotels are open and accept bookings. So, there are travellers to Batam, but must be all Indo.
4) Pubs? What would I see if I make a walk in Kampung Bule? What about Square? As above, I believe there are Indo business men around.
5) What would I see if I walk around Nagoya Hill mall? Same as before, but all Indo? Or not?
6) The most tricky: are disco opened again, or not yet? Did Planet 3 and Newton ever close, btw?? (Indonesia boleh)

Apologies for this kind of interrogation. I wish I could teletransport me there, or just have a drone flying around Batam to see how it looks like now... :(

Same here. I won't be thinking of going Batam until next year. Not even sure which part of next year, hehehe...

I feel so sad at times that some of the girls i knew who went back to their hometown from Batam has pass away (from lack of medical attention, i think). :(

I will make my question more detailed. Probably you don't know, but if you know anyone on site, I die for curiosity to know what's going on there now.

1) "Massage" places (joints)? I guess all closed and disappeared for the moment. Or not?

Most tourist reliant massage places are closed. Sports Massage, Reborn etc are still opened.

2) "Regular" semi-legitimate massage places, as all those behind Utama Hotel?

Nope, i can't name the place now but according from an Indo Chinese friend in Batam, they are mostly all closed (if not all).

3) Food courts? Why closed? what about locals and Indo business? I note that Marriott hotels are open and accept bookings. So, there are travellers to Batam, but must be all Indo.

While food courts may still be opened, many lesser popular stalls in it are closed. Many bigger scale international chain hotels are still open, it's easy for them to survive by just cutting back on the number of staffs in it (& shut down the top 5 floors of their hotel). The regular few hotels i frequent are still there, just no more KTVs, & minimum Massage personnel in it.

4) Pubs? What would I see if I make a walk in Kampung Bule? What about Square? As above, I believe there are Indo business men around.

Not sure, never ask. :D

5) What would I see if I walk around Nagoya Hill mall? Same as before, but all Indo? Or not?

Local are required to be vaccinated before they are allowed to step into malls. The last i heard, less than 30% of Indonesian were vaccinated which mean 3 out of 10 locals are allow to enter the mall.

6) The most tricky: are disco opened again, or not yet? Did Planet 3 and Newton ever close, btw?? (Indonesia boleh)

Not sure, never ask. :D

Above were as much i knew so far. I may be out-dated tho since it's been a long time.

Same here. I won't be thinking of going Batam until next year. Not even sure which part of next year, hehehe...

I feel so sad at times that some of the girls i knew who went back to their hometown from Batam has pass away (from lack of medical attention, i think). :(

The 5 days quarantine rules really not encouragingly helping from the Indonesia side. So it's back to sq1.

Most tourist reliant massage places are closed. Sports Massage, Reborn etc are still opened.

Nope, i can't name the place now but according from an Indo Chinese friend in Batam, they are mostly all closed (if not all).

VTLs, Johore and Batam: Take care of the heartland uncles and aunties too, not just the District Niners

For Singapore, managing a pandemic up to now has meant keeping the population safe within its borders. As it opens up, the focus will be on border traffic – people entering and departing – and less what is happening in the Covid-19 hotspots of Bukit Merah, Geylang East, Toa Payoh and Jurong. So, let’s skip all this angsty discussion on vaxxers and anti-vaxxers and move on. The question is: who deserves more attention from here on – the rich and the elite or the heartlanders who also need to get out of this small island and regain their mental health?

Good news, of course, for the more mobile Singaporeans, among whom would be those flying off to study or to see family and friends abroad. Still good but less euphoric news for those who could find no employment for their skills in Singapore, their own country, and have to seek work in other countries.

TODAY reported: “Since the vaccinated travel lanes (VTL) scheme allowing quarantine-free travel kicked off in September, Singapore Airlines Group has received nearly 160,000 bookings on its SIA and Scoot flights, and it is taking steps to ramp up capacity to meet an expected boom in demand in the coming months.

“Passenger volume for the carrier has increased to 37 per cent of pre-Covid-19 levels and that figure is expected to increase to 43 per cent by next month, SIA CEO Goh Choon Phong said at its half-year performance results briefing on Friday (Nov 12).”

Singapore has VTLs with Germany, Brunei, Canada, Denmark, France, Italy, Holland, Spain, Britain, the US, Australia, Switzerland, South Korea (from Nov 15) and Malaysia, Finland and Sweden (all from Nov 29).

Provided nature and mankind’s misbehaviour do not throw us yet another curve ball in the pandemic story, travel should be back – with a vengeance – for those who are able to get out. Watch the VTL screen. Think of all the pent-up frustrations and accumulated and untouched savings brought about by pre-vaccine Covid-19.

But what about the heartlanders, especially the still fairly active Merdeka Generation and not the older Pioneers (and let’s confine ourselves to the vaccinated)?

This is their perspective.

Can only meet in pairs to dine in coffee shops and hawker centres. No karaokes and pubs to go to. No (ok, legal) massage places to patronise. No affordable package trips to Thailand, Vietnam or China. More hurting, they have not been able to hop over to Johor or Batam for weekend escapades.

We need to start some kind of trial VTL with, first, Batam. Unlike Bali which is an iconic world tourist spot and not quite next door, nearby, more affordable Batam has been fairly popular with Singaporeans out to spend a day or two there to recharge their batteries. Start with a limited number of outbound Singapore visitors, fully vaccinated, fully tested all the way to and from Batam.

No reason why we can’t do the same with Johor. Where there is a will, there should be a way.

The priorities of heartlanders or ordinary Singaporeans are as important as those regarded as part of the more socially or economically valuable.

But only limited to Nongsa Sensation bubble travel area, not anywhere in Batam. Don't know is there any girl available for booking there or not ? Also don't know girls outside the the area can go there to stay with their customers or not. Also this arrangement is subject to weekly review, Indonesia government may stop it anytime.

No problem at Singapore side, just need to do PCR test there before coming back, pay for PCR test , take PCR test when arriving and ART for next 7 days. However, prepare to spend up to $1000 on just ferry, ART and PCR tests. So meaningless for just going 2 to 3 days. But i'm going for girls, not beach, since movement only restricted to Nongsa Sensation bubble travel zone , i just wait and see. Don't want to spend so much going there and find that no girl for booking there and girls outside the zone can't enter there.

True. On top of this, still need to serve 7 days SHN upon returning back to Singapore too.

According to the news :

https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/transport/surge-in-enquiries-on-batam-bintan-ferry-trips-despite-mandatory-shn-on-return-to-spore

If i were to go, i'll join a tour group in Singapore to help myself better understand the whole procedure 1st.

Most likely Singaporean have to wait until March to be able to travel to Batam without quarantine requirement there and SHN requirement here. With SHN requirement here and travel only allow within the resort area there, no point of spending so much to go there unless you're going there for beach not girls.

On top of your top, there is the question "what if the PCR test is positive before going back to Singapore?"
I feel like hybernated. I want to see the Horizon Ferry desk at Harbour Front as before. I want to go back and forth hassle-free as before.

Sorry Horizon Ferry desk in HF closed since April 2019.
Moving freely between Sg and Btm without hassle wouldn't be happening soon. So keep on hibernating till further notice.
