Alisson probably will be out for the Everton match.. Kelleher is also out, Adrain will start likely.
Pool having new problems every match...

Fabinho is out for the Everton match also. that leaves either Kabak or Philips or Davies to pair with Henderson at the back.

Klopp said at the presser last night that Alisson is fit to play today.

It was this bit which i found a sad joke...

Klopp on Keita: "It's just unlucky. It didn't make sense [to play vs Leipzig], he stayed home and trained but got ill and was only integrated again yesterday. He's not injured anymore, we need to figure out how fit he is."

If Kabak plays he is going to be targetted by those thugs from Everton, so he has got to be very careful. So too Thiago, can see a red card there as well, especially after what Richarlison did to him last time.

Hopefully Virgil will sit behind Pickford all match and let him hear some home truths:D

Any win will do and no more injuries please.

No fans or spectators allowed for this game... and players of both teams can only be in their team dugouts or assigned seating.
So no way VVD can be behind Pickford unless he can morphed into a groundstaff... :)

i believe so. because when the ref went to look at the VAR screen, within 1 sec he made his decision without even looking at the slow mo replay.

yes i think is not Pool's luck this season, at least for the PL. maybe we will have better luck in the CL. but then the amount of injuries we have, the squad is getting thinner and thinner by the week.

yes have to agree. playing always the same 4-3-3 formation makes us become too predictable, and some opposing teams will pack their players in the box to prevent Pool from breaking through.

and whenever i see us passing the ball left to right and right to left, this gives the opposing team plenty of time to form up their defence to shut out the likes of Mane and Salah. every game we play we have high % possession but ............. don't know how to get the ball through.

Exact thoughts. Looking at past few games, what's the fucking point in having high possession % and yet lose the games??

Xgenre
23-02-2021, 06:40 PM
We have always been a side with high % possession and high number of completed passes. The main difference now is our front 3 cannot finish off the chances. Bobby don't have the legs to be at the end of passes or to link up plan with incisive passes to the other 2 anymore.

We are a high energy side and we need squad rotation to ensure energy levels don't drop off. Our aging squad is slowly losing the pace. Milly hardly sprints now. Injuries... quite jialat.

Our new head of recovery is also very conservative. She wants players like Jota to take a longer time to recover so that they do not get injured again. Not a good season to do this in a super thin squad. With her in charge I don't think we will see Gomez and VvD again this season.

Jota back in full training....

But...

Henderson now out for at least 4 weeks, will miss the games against Sheffield United, Chelsea, Fulham, Wolves and RB Leipzig.

So looking through the squad, I think only Adrian, Gini, Robbo, Mo, Neco, Bobby, and Phillips haven't been injured or haven't missed games because of injury. Maybe Williams.

A couple of caveats with that are that both Mo and Neco missed games with Covid, and Robbo was injured on international duty. Williams too but was pulled from under 23's international squad.

That is as bad as I have ever known this in almost 40 years of being able to remember the reds play. Five senior members of the squad who so far haven't been injured.

I am absolutely done with this.

First league points in Feb plus a clean sheet, lovely.

Was getting depressed when I first saw the team sheet; no Kelleher, Jota or Davies. Had no clue who Jakub and Hughes were. Rumours running rife that Jota suspected down with appendicitis. Fortunately Klopp clarified at the post match presser that both Fabinho and Jota should be ok for Thursday's match against Chelsea(fingers crossed).

Great to see Curtis Jones maturing into a very important player for us so soon and a scouser to boot. So nice of Curtis to mention Alisson's late father after the game as well, smashing lad.

Shout out to Adrian, was solid. A nice reminder of how important he was to us during the first part of last season.

Has to be Fabinho and Phillips at the back against Chelsea though. I know I have said previously to give Kabak a chance but unfortunately I think Thursday's match might be just too much for him. Chelsea could tear Kabak to shreds. He seems to be running in slow motion at times. Speed of Chelsea's attack could be asking too much of Nat and Ozan together.

Finally let us just continue to take it game by game from now on and not get distracted by anything else. We just have to look at ourselves and see where this shall eventually take us at the end of this most challenging and bizarre of seasons that I have seen us in.

Performance was very average only. It seems the front 3 strikers are totally out of form especially Mane. They had their chances but couldn't finished it off. Firmino's goal was quite lucky also. Kabak is simply not up to par, find him slow n clumsy. The only thing is the 2-0 result which could be a morale booster.

Before my time under Shankly but read a lot about him and grew up watching him on the Saint and Greavsie tv show; which was brilliant back in the day, sort of a precursor to the likes of Richard Keys and Andy Gray on the telly today. Greavsie being the legendary Spurs and England striker Jimmy Greaves.

Think I abandoned hope for this match when Mo came off, Ox came on and Milner was the final answer. Sad thing is I'm beginning to not care any more as I just expect nothing else.

Jurgen can be criticised for last night's game decisions but ultimately the players seem to have given up. Sad to see but we need to overcome this difficult period. Not sure how though and what is even more troubling is that Klopp maybe losing the dressing room and the team losing unity as well.

Once the first team is fully available and this carries on then we know the problems are a lot deeper than just injuries. This season is gone and I don't know why I keep on believing we'll get top four once results go our way. False hopes kills me.

That said if we're not top 4 then missing out on Europe altogether is for the best but the financial impact is going to be devasting. Unbelievable how fast we have fallen after taking 30 years to rise up to the top again.

Seems like the problem is simply Klopp, he remains obstinate about his strategy and insist on playing a midfield in CB...this is only going to demoralized the squad morale especially those CB who are in the reserves...it will only erode away their confidence when they are finally put to the test...we just can't keep using the same old excuse of injuries..

I watched the match. Chelsea is really not much better than us. Our problem is our standards have dropped a lot. Mane missed a golden chance plus he did not go down for the penalty. If Mane is a Man U player, he will be screwed upside down for not being professional. Same thing against newcastle match. Their goalkeeper already use both hands to pull his leg already but still Mane chose to be honest. He misses chances he used to be able to score and stays on his feet during proper penalty claims. Sigh.

As for the Mason Mount goal, when he cut in, you know where he is going to dribble to before shooting. It is like watching a standard goal happening in real time. Fabinho is really having a bad day. You always push the attacker to the side and not like him cut in. It's almost a mantra like don't like the ball bounce.

We still have hope of top 4 but Klopp needs to wake up. Putting in Ox and Milner is poor judgement. Ox is really a has been now. Different player since his last injury. We should also consider starting Thiago on the bench. He slows us down a lot.

Thiago should be deployed the same way as he was deployed @Bayern as a deep lying midfielder. He's not an offensive player.
Klopp has played him out of position many times with the only exception against Chelsea @Stamford Bridge. Thiago is a brilliant player if used correctly! He hasn't been playing that badly actually, the rest of the players dragged him down together imo...

Pool can't even hold Fulham to a draw, how on earth are they going to go through the next round in CL? Leipzig might even knocked Liverpool off this Wed.

unless a miracle happen, i don't see us winning the CL at all with our current form.

we may beat Leipzig and qualify to next round but .................hopes are slim but my support for Pool is always there.

Could it be the players wants Klopp to be out?
That was what happened @ Chelsea n Scums when Lampard n Mourinho were terminated. I can't think of any other reason how a team who was a title contender, 7pts clear top of the table during X'mas n suddenly it just crumbled to fighting to survive in the top half of the table in a matter of 2mths!

I agree. The mental and physical exhaustion is setting in. Plus age too. Our squad's average age is creeping up too. Time to rebuild. See how much more energy a Jota brings to the team. Actually Chelsea's squad is the best in time of ability and age. I think they will dominate in 1-2 years. Their wage bill must be super high too.

I saw the 2nd half of the match. We are almost playing like we used to with Fabinho back in midfield. He breaks up the attack in midfield before the opponents get to our defence. Our midfield is now almost back to full strength. Waiting for the midfielders to get back into form. Why almost playing like we used to? Because our front 3 are still wasting chances away. Salah scored but generally is not in top form.

Origi looks hungry once again. Kabak and Phillips both look ok. I think we will sign Kabak at the end of the season.

Top 4 is not out of reach yet but we need the front 3 to start firing. Jota is a huge upgrade on Firmino these days. He did a lot of running and linking up play. Salah must be really happy with Jota for helping to set up his goal.

let's hope Liverpool get some luck in the draw for the quarter finals.

if VVD can come back to 1st team this season we still have a chance.

the front 3 still need to do their work to score important goals and not waste chances.

Clean sheet.
Scored goals.
Fabinho back in midfield.
Did not play such a High Line.
No silly errors.
Smiles on faces.
Quarter finals of the champions league.
Keita not injured.
Origi had a good cameo.

Great performance, only criticism was finishing .
Phillips Kabak Fabinho and Thiago were all extremely good .

Lovely to see huge smiles on the players faces as well as the boss. This was more like it.

So means what? We go back to the Rafa Benitez era where no one messes with us in Europe is it? :p Who here always say don't mess with Liverpool in Europe ah? I remember there is a bro who kept repeating that statement. :p

I think top 4 is possible. We just need to make full use of our 3 week break. In the past, we had Fabinho and Henderson in midfield. If our opponent can get through them, they face VVD. If get through VVD, they face Allison. It is like a world class hurdle one after another.

Now we put Henderson and Fabinho in centreback position and lose our midfield steel. Both of them are only half as effective because midfielders don't have to set the offside trap right? Both their CB position not natural. So putting Fabinho back into midfield brings back the steel in our midfield. Then we have 2 guys (Kabak and Phillips) who are specially trained all their lives for the CB position playing there and setting the offside trap. Things look so much better immediately.

Bloody hell, Nat Phillips contract ends this June and Liverpool does not seem to want to renew his contract. I think many EPL clubs will sign him

When you walk through a storm
Hold your head up high
And don't be afraid of the dark
At the end of a storm
There's a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of a lark
Walk on through the wind
Walk on through the rain
Though your dreams be tossed and blown
Walk on, walk on
With hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone
You'll never walk alone
Walk on, walk on

This meltdown Klopp is largely to be blamed cos he's afraid to try out his new players as he doesn't trust them till he had no choice.. What's the point of constantly putting either Hendo or Fab or pairing both as CBs when it doesn't worked? If it failed after losing 2 matches he has to change the system, not wait till losing 6 - 7 matches consecutively than he decides to change the system! Ben Davis is not Klopp sanctioned but was last min deal done by Henry's son & the transfer committee.... that's why Klopp is not using him. I read from the discussions in the LFC fans club groupchat where many ex-Liverpool players are active and up to date on the happenings inside Anfield that Klopp actually asked for funds to bring in a CB after seriousness of VVD injury was known..... but the LFC bosses refused to allocate any funds.
And they withheld bringing in any player until Klopp threatened to leave (approached for Germany manager job) that they finally relented and brought in last minute deals for Kabak & Davis.

True. I mean you watched the match. His tackles are lunging tackle type. If mistimed, it causes a lot of pain on the opponent wherever his studs touch the opponent. He gives out free kicks and collect yellow cards too frequently. Last night, his first touch was not so consistent too. His passing ability is world class though. Still waiting for him to fully settle in.

I think we have a working defence again. Kabak and Philips look good and they have Fabinho protecting them. Competition for places in midfield is scary. Fabinho, Gini and Thiago started with Jones, Milner, Keita, Ox fighting for a place too. If anyone slack off, sure to be replaced.

Robbo's form has been very poor lately. His linked up play with Mane was almost non existent n even his crosses were poor.
Thiago is struggling in the EPL, can see that he's not used to the fast pace n hard challenges. Very obvious he performs better in the CL. Come next season I'm sure he would have adapted by than.

Not a bad thing I feel. The average age of our squad is creeping up. We do need to rebuild. The worry though is many of our players in the age group of 25-29 are injury prone (Keita, Ox, Shaq) Joe Gomez, yet to turn 24, has 2 major knee injuries now. Not good for his career's longevity.

That said, because of the Covid situation are we still playing at Anfield and the Bernabeu?

Was chatting with a Gooner fan last night and he raised an interesting point on how the CL/EL outcomes could eventually affect next season's CL slots from the PL.

In the event of both CL and EL being won by PL teams and both those teams do not finish in the Top 4 of the PL, then the 4th place CL slot will become void as UEAFA rules only allow for max 5 teams from any League being in the CL.

Unlikely to happen but nonetheless still possible, so this season's 4th place PL position fight might turn out to be a bitter disappointment.

U are absolutely right. Best thing is to sell Keita @b4 next season starts. He's a liability, can't even utilised him for 20 matches per season n costing Pool a lot of $ to keep him in the club. Would rather Pool bring back Emre Can, rumours saying he might be back which I doubt.

No to Emre Can. I rather bring back Grujic. He is a tall, combative defensive midfielder. Not slow too. Even Jonjo Shevey is worth considering

Jota's the main difference. He gets into the penalty box to finish off chances. Having 2 players with great crossing ability, we benefited from Jota being in the box. Provides a target man to head in the crosses. Firmino is seldom in the box.

Having Fabinho back in CM also brings balance to the team. He protects the CB and helps to provide forward passes to the front 3. Pity we did not play in this manner earlier. Top 4 is within reach.

The scoreline flattered the Reds.
They were flat in the 1st 60mins although having most of the possession ..... but just having possession without any threat or penetration will not win games.
The game only came alive with the introduction of Jota..... this guy is good. His clever positional play and intelligent runs provided thrust and created gaps in the Gunners backline. Liverpool's attacks started to show some teeth and 3 goals is a fair result.

I hope Jota does not get injured for the remaining games as he is the spark that has transformed Liverpool's lethargic form back into the Liverpool of previous seasons that we know.

Klopp got his tactics all wrong again.. Starting Keita was the worst thing as he was short of playing time. Mane n Robbo don't know what happened to these 2?,They were playing like strangers on the left side, totally no linked up play.. Overall there was no pressing no urgency in their performance except for certain spells in the 2nd half.

Outclassed and out fought.

Our team is sadly at the end of a cycle. The only one of our front 3 I would keep is Salah... Firmino and Mane have regressed as happens to all mere mortals.

The pressing isn’t there anymore because the team is ageing/burnt out.

Starting Keita was the worst thing as he was short of playing time. Mane n Robbo don't know what happened to these 2?!

Normally when Robbo and TAA attack, the holding midfielder need to cover the gap left by the fullback. Otherwise in a counter-attack, we cannot expect the fullback to cover that space in super fast speed. The person covering was always one of the midfield trio. Last night the midfield did not cover the gaps that well. Gini normally cover the left side. He did ok. Keita did not even bother covering the right side which exposes TAA.

Keita is effectively warned about his performance. Klopp could have substituted him at half-time to save face. Klopp substituted him 3 mins before half time and did not give him a hug or handshake as Keita walks off the pitch. Very unlike Klopp.

The only one of our front 3 I would keep is Salah... Firmino and Mane have regressed as happens to all mere mortals.

At least we will have money to rebuild when we sell our front 3. Firmino will be suitable for a slower league like Bundesliga or Serie A. Mane is going through a confidence crisis. Should be ok. Salah has the best resale value and the heaviest international time schedule next season. Salah's social media outreach is vast. He will command the highest resale value. Whoever buys Salah has an advertising channel to reach many millions of people. His off the pitch prowess is attractive to Real Madrid or Barcelona.

FSG is very statistics based. They know which players are underperforming. I expect to see more Moneyball inspired moves. Signing Jota is a smart move.

Scrappy win, take it, move on. Good to get it...couldn't see it coming tbh for last 15 mins. Keeps the season alive.

Same sloppy & lethargic play for most of it that has dogged us for months, particularly 2nd half, particularly after Salah scored.

But unlike other games, we scrambled the result. At this stage of the season attractive & dynamic football is very much secondary...only the points matter.

On a lighter note...
We win two games in a row with Alisson with the beard.
We lose the game with him with the moustache.
We win with him clean-shaven.

The moustache ruined Justice League and it threatens to ruin Liverpool!

Chelsea will likely get 3rd spot, 4th place will be W.Ham or Leicester with Pool standing an outside chance.

Here are the remaining key matches for the various teams.

Liverpool: Leeds (away), Man U (away). The rest are bottom sides.

Spurs: Everton (away), Man City (away), Leeds (away), Leicester (away)

West Ham: Chelsea (home), Everton (home). Rest are bottom sides

Chelsea: West Ham (away), Man City (away), Arsenal (home), Leicester (home), last match against aston villa (away) may not be easy too.

Leicester: Last 3 BPL matches are Man U (away), Chelsea (away), Spurs (home)

West Ham has the best schedule. They face lower sides and they do not have European matches. So can rest totally. Chelsea still have a FA Cup against Man City. Chelsea likely to progress in Champions League too and their remaining BPL matches are tough.

We have a strong chance to finish top 4. Leicester is not that strong. Still relying a lot of Jamie Vardy but Brendan Rodgers is a choker. Last night he lost the match against West Ham by suspending 3 players. That is why his top midfielder James Maddison did not play. BR rather risk a top 4 spot to make a point.

It’s not beyond the realms of possibility to win 2-0 but I can’t for the life of me see our defence holding out.
Let’s just put in a good performance, we know we can play much better than last week, let’s give RM something to worry about,a bloody nose or 2, and if we go out then we go down fighting, not on a whimper.

Come to think of it, bowing out of the Champions League this week, whilst Chelsea continue in the competition might end up a blessing in disguise.

1st leg really killed us.

Can't fault the lads for trying last night.

Pressure, intensity and physicality was all there.

Sadly the final clinical touch was missing. Salah puts that away in the first few minutes and it's game on. Gini would have put that effort of his away if he was wearing an Orange shirt. We had enough chances to score, just did not finish it off.

Two things irk me apart from our front 3 not scoring. 1) we need a MF who scores and 2) we need to score again from corners. Oh and we need to shoot from outside the box to try and score as well.

Must say Trent was awesome last night so too Phillips and Kabak was pretty good too.

Credit to Zidane, think he has shown that he is indeed a world class manager now without relying on Ronaldo. Played a strong tactically defensive game of two banks of 4. Stand in CBs Militao and Nacho were solid and Casemiro moped everything up.

Anyway still proud of our boys. Hope we can maintain this level of performance in our last 7 matches with more clinical accuracy, if so I think we should be ok.

One of our better recent matches. Bobby actually plays better than usual. We were wasteful. Mane tries hard but looks so shagged after 15 mins. You can see the glazed tired look in his eyes after 15 mins. I think he may still have after effects from Covid 19. Thiago starts from the bench again. It seems like he is more of a Plan B for Klopp. To be fair, Milner offers more energy in defence and in attack. I don't understand why Kabak is always substituted when Nat Phillips was already on a yellow card.

If we can play like this for our remaining matches, we will finish in the top 4.

Klopp got it wrong again. Playing Gini Fab n Milner in midfield is not going for a win imo, this is a very defensive trio. What has he gotta lose playing an all out attacking side? Make use of Keita since he's fit n why Klopp keeps playing Mane is baffling? Perhaps Shaq would be a better option.
This season may end up with not even a Europa Lg spot!

Klopp is threatening to leave the club if Pool is going ahead with the Super League. I simply don't understand what's the purpose of having this European Super Lg apart from $$$ for the organisers?
Share the same view as bro countryman...it is sad that british n international football has come to this serious open disagreement...even the British PM and other European PMs r against this new idea...but this group of 12 managements of the biggest clubs in the world still don't even heck care abt the wishes of their govts n fans

Liverpool MU MC Che Ars Spurs officially out of Europe with the announcement of ESL.

No point to clinch 4th place.

Now they may kick out RM Che and MC out of SF for current CL and hand the trophy to PSG wo kicking any ball.
Yes, think bro ThisisMelwood is correct...no point to continue playing in this epl league anymore n fight for top 4 places for those 6 top british clubs who want to break away...they shd be removed straightaway n let the other 14 clubs left to fight for those top 4 places to qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season...so we might see the likes of West Ham, Everton, Leeds n Aston Villa occupying those top 4 places instead

This season is done.

You can feel the physical exhaustion, you can feel the mental exhaustion.
We try our best but the injuries and the lack of good players on the bench cost us.

Strengthen in summer, have a good rest and preseason and attack next season.

That said, I give credit to Bielsa. Truly creative and gutsy manager, class act. I love Klopp to bits and shall forever be grateful to him for what he has done for our club but I really don't understand what is going on in his head this season. Why didn't he play Rhys or Ben at CB and just leave Fabinho where we need him most? And those substitutions? Must say Kabak was once again quite good.

Back to Jürgen, with all that is happening, I can see him walking to Bayern Munich next season or the German National team job depending on what happens with Hansi Flick.

Please also keep this in mind.

ESL only goes ahead for the 'Big 6' EPL assuming all the 'obstacles' do not block their path.

I don't think this is a sure thing done deal as yet, judging by the counter reaction with even the British PM weighing in with comments against it.

Klopp has become a scaredy cat this season. He doesn't trust his new players n he's always sticking to same old formula. He could have taken off Gini n replaced him with Rhys n put Fab back to midfield in the 2nd half. That would give Pool more control of the game as Gini went totally MIA in the 2nd half.. Anyway I already had a feeling before the match Pool wouldn't make it..

Ironically after all the hoo-ha over the last 48 hours, we are still in the race for Top 4(unlikely but still in it). Everytime we mess up, the others still pull us back in by dropping points themselves:rolleyes::D

As for the ESL, what did I tell you guys?! I had a feeling it was going to be a difficult one to pull off. That said, did not know the 'Big 6' would capitulate so fast.

Must say though, can't stand the hypocrisy coming out of Guardiola's mouth. Easy for Pep to talk big what with City being funded by Abu Dhabi and riding roughshod over FFP. Same goes for corrupt UEFA and FIFA. Even Gary Neville and Carragher should not talk so big as they have made loads of money from English top flight football being transformed by TV rights money(both as players and now Sky pundits)

All i can say is this has truly been a crap season and can't wait for it to end.

English super 6 teams got cold feet once BOJO pushed forward with legislature to make life almost impossible for those six teams.

Should be a draw game tonight.
Both teams have injuries to their 1st team CBs and are fielding makeshift CBs.
And both teams need points..... for Reds to break into top 4 & for Magpies to avoid relegation.
But I forsee the Magpies are more desparate to avoid relegation and thus will upz their game against the Reds.

Think we are cursed.

Paying the price for winning the league again after 30 years.

Shout out to Kabak though. Thought he had yet another good game.

146 chances created at Anfield in 2021 4 goals.
Cannot get my head around this.

Back to last night, still can't get over Mane's chance in the first half.
What the hell was he doing? He was six yards out, it was rolled to him perfectly.

And, if Klopp is going to insist on only using the players he trusts then sell each and every one of the players he doesn't trust. Currently the players Klopp doesn't trust are just making up numbers in the squad. Davis, at this point, is an urban myth.
Also the loyalty to 4-3-3 and the high line this season has been costly.

Thiago was controlling the midfield n Klopp took him off n put in Curtis who just returned from injury! How idiotic Klopp could be? It's time for Klopp to leave, seems he doesn't know how to bring the team fwd anymore. Same thing happened to him in Dortmund actually.

Man Utd 0 - Liverpool 1

After their Europa League SF exertions midweek.... I think the Man Utd players are tired.... so the fresher Liverpool players should be able to win this game.

What a joke.

Curious and strange that United fans chose to cause chaos in this match and not the earlier one against Roma.

Neville and Carragher total whores for Sky, credit to Souness for trying to speak the truth.

This was not a peaceful protest.

If this happened at Anfield, Liverpool would be slaughtered by Sky and majority of the media.

This season just keeps on getting more bizarre and unimaginable.

On hindsight wonder why Klopp didn't keep him as we know Matip n Gomez are always injury prone every season!
