Seriously, I would never considered this match as a stroll in the park for ars.
I was really SHOCKED when Alan Curbishley and winterburn predicted a sure win for them
Much as I hated man u like yourself, points don't lie don't they, but I'm pretty sure we will win our 19th title soon.
We need to see the owners will continue to splash money for new players in the summer and of course confirm who will take charge nxt season

Well, if anyone had seen the liverpool lineup, I guess nobody would have betted on Liverpool getting even a draw at Arsenal. And when you had another 3 regulars being substituted due to injuries during the match with another 2 youngsters and a not so good defender coming on, I think most people would have expected an Arsenal win...:D
However, the last few games have shown that Liverpool's academy has started producing quality players who will hopefully be regulars in future. Our youngsters have really done very well when thrown into the fire and this bodes well for Liverpool. In the past, we had some good youngsters coming through but they never made the grade so hopefully it will be different this time.
As for the game, I think a draw was a fair result. Arsenal attacked a lot but had no cutting edge and Liverpool defended very well. And Dirk Kyut seems to be Liverpool's lucky charm....:p
Stop living in history guys, we haven't been the best club in England for years now and if not for Chelsea's millions, the Scum would have surpassed us already.
Compare to last season when Rafa's Reds limply gave up the home game to Chelsea. If we lose the record, let's go down fighting. We lost 3-2 away at OT this season (thanks to a horrendous piece of refereeing) and spanked them at home; nothing much more we could have done really given our weak squad.

as a Pool fan n MU hater, some mixed feelings here. happy that we salvaged a pt which we thoroughly deserved. ok, we didnt play pretty football tonite but it was effective football nonetheless. was hoping KD play a more adventurous game but we defended deep for most of the game which many would argue it's d most sensible tactic to adopt in highbury.
on d other hand, our deprivation of Arse of that 2 pts mean Scums now are 6 pts clear n clear favourites to win their 19th title. dun get me wrong, im not sayin that we shd throw the game away to Arse, juz how ironical football can be, when we are indirectly helping our most hated rivals to seal d title.
well, all d best to Gunners. hope they'll recover fr tonite's shock n do us n themselves a big favour by beating Spurs on Thurs! :D

arsenal is still only 6 pts off manu & the scums will drop points as they still have 2 play arsenal & chelsea so lets not get too worried now that they will beat us for tat 19th league title..............of course arsenal on their part have to win all their remaining games as well..............;)
i also remember our monday nite game against man city where the commentators also said we will lose the game but our fighting spirit is tremendous high and kudos again to lucas, spearing, kuyt & suarez for another outstanding performance................YNWA

if i'm not wrong, if man city wins the FA cup, stoke goes into europa lge as runner-up...
Kenny had a bit of class today, when interviewed, said why should a few words between two managers take away the battle and result on the field.

Carragher confirms swift recovery
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story/_/id/908814/jamie-carragher-made-swift-recovery-after-clash-of-heads?cc=4716
'However, the former England defender was able to recover in time to watch the dramatic final 10 minutes, which saw Dirk Kuyt answer Robin van Persie's penalty for a 1-1 draw, and he now expects to be fine to face Birmingham on Saturday.'
"There has been a great togetherness. I think that's come since Kenny has come in and everyone is together now," he said. "When you have that togetherness you can achieve things. It's like the late penalty we got - you don't get that if you don't have togetherness and a spirit to not want to lose.
"You look at how young the team we had out there at the end and the way we kept going. There's a feel good factor which has been strengthened with our last two performances and we just want to keep it going now.
GREAT RECOVERY, (ASST) CAPTAIN MARVEL!!!!!! HOPE TO SEE CARROLL BACK IN ACTION SOON TOO!!!!!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Premier_League#Qualification_for_European_competit ions
Qualification for European competitions
As of the 2009–10 season qualification for the UEFA Champions League changes, the top four teams in the Premier League qualify for the UEFA Champions League, with the top three teams directly entering the group stage. Previously only the top two teams qualified automatically. The fourth-placed team enters the Champions League at the play-off round for non-champions and must win a two-legged knockout tie in order to enter the group stage. The team placed fifth in the Premier League automatically qualifies for the UEFA Europa League, and the sixth and seventh-placed teams can also qualify, depending on the winners of the two domestic cup competitions. If one of the cup winners qualifies for Europe through their league position, the sixth-placed team in the Premier League will qualify for the Europa League. If both of the cup winners qualify for the Champions League through their league position, the sixth and seventh-placed teams in the Premier League will qualify for the Europa League. If either domestic cup competition is contested between teams outside the top four league positions, the winner will automatically qualify for the UEFA Europa League regardless of their final league position. A further place in the UEFA Europa League is also available via the Fair Play initiative. If the Premier League has one of the three highest Fair Play rankings in Europe, the highest ranked team in the Premier League Fair Play standings which has not already qualified for Europe will automatically qualify for the UEFA Europa League first qualifying round.
Europa league place -
5th place,
carling cup (Birmingham)
6th place or FA cup winner (Liverpool have chance if Man City win FA cup)
fairplay (Fulham)

I thought that the UEFA rule states that if the FA cup winner qualifies for the European cup, then the runners up will qualify for Europa Cup. If the FA cup winners qualify for Europa cup, then the 6th place team in the league will qualify for Europa cup. :D
So for Liverpool to qualify for Europa cup in 6th place, then Man City have to win the FA cup AND finish in 5th place.

It's not a realistic option. Money side, playing in Europe requires experience and expertise - Kenny's team did horribly in Europe while producing some excellent league performances. Our recent success in Europe was built by Rafa but also owed to Houllier's accomplishments in the then UEFA Cup.
Also, aren't we going to try for the CL the season after? There's always going to be the problem of 2-3 games in a week, and this so called luxury of focussing on English games only is very short term.
Don't forget, players want to play in Europe, and so do managers and the owners.
i would want my team to qualify all competition and win all title, let it be mickey mouse or donald duck cups...
as bro rahl said, we've to get used to play 3 games a week and play against european teams, to prepare for the targetted CL following seasoin... cos playing in europe is very different from playing in epl...
remember how english teams suffered when they were banned for europe competition, they simply forgot how to play agst european teams...
we slowly become a force in europe only after continental coches houllier n rafa came, but sadly on the side they din know how to play the englidh games and win the epl...

i felt at the moment whether we qualify for the europa league is out of our hands and what is important now is to keep our unbeaten momentum till the end of the season and bring that momentum over to the new season where we must have a good start and be competitive (depends on the new players that we bring in) throughout the entire BPL season.
for these last 5 games, we should continue on the form that we have displayed in the last 2 games and let the partnership of suarez and carroll gel even further so that next season we can start on fire with these two upfront............:D

Aquilani doesn't want Reds return
Alberto Aquilani has made it clear he would rather sign a permanent deal with Juventus than return 2 Liverpool 4 next season.
Aquilani has been a success during his loan spell in Turin & Reds manager Kenny Dalglish said on Thursday there was a chance the Italy international "could be a valuable asset" @ Anfield next season.
However Aquilani, who joined Liverpool fr Roma for £17 million in the summer of 2009, has underlined tat he 1s 2 join Juve, who hv an option 2 sign the player for £13 million.
"My situation is simple. It all depends on Juventus - if they 1 2, (they can) buy me without asking anyone's opinion," Aquilani told Gazzetta dello Sport. "I would like 2 stay in Turin 4 a long time & win a lot.
"I 1 2 be a protagonist in the new winning cycle tat is opening up @ Juventus. I hv no doubt tat Juve's project is a winner, they just need a little patience.
"I played with great continuity, without any particular problems. I finally removed the tag of me always being injured. I knew I was healthy, tat I was just unlucky in the past, but in football people just 1 2 label someone."

bye bye Adidas...
Liverpool have sealed a record-breaking new kit deal according to reports in Friday's papers.
The Reds are said to have signed a new contract with Boston-based company Warrior Sports that will see the club earn £25m-a-year - a massive hike on the £12m-a-year deal they have with current suppliers Adidas.
The new deal is the biggest in English football history and eclipses the £23.5m-a-year Manchester United earn from their suppliers Nike.
Liverpool replica shirts are the fourth-highest selling in the world with currently 900,000 shifted every year - behind only Manchester United, Real Madrid and Barcelona.
Warrior Sports, a subsidiary of New Balance who recently announced a deal to supply Boston Red Sox who are also owned by Liverpool's owners Fenway Sports Group, will begin supplying kits ahead of the 2012-13 season.
The new kit deal is another step in FSG chief John Henry's plan to make Liverpool more commercially astute in order to bring in more funds for new players.

as a Pool fan & Jersey collector, would have preferred to see more 'prestigious' brands like 'Adidas' or 'Nike' on our jerseys. So will we be seeing 'New Balance' ... or 'Warrior Sports'? The former makes us look like endorsing SAF products. LOL :D
we are definitely in the right direction to attract better quality sponsors to boost our warchest. there has been much talk to build a new stadium but it has been stalemate for so many years. hope the new owners can finally do something abt it. for us to grow, we need a stadium which can match the likes of Scums & Barca.

Things are only better if the higher revenue translates to bigger transfer budget or higher wage cap. The previous owners can do this too but the increases revenue will just go to interest payments. Like that then no points.

Thks bro. :D 1 thing we are on track, our GD's better than Spurs now -12 vs 8. Spurs' trump card will of cos be their game in hand. If they fumble, the destiny will be in our hands. If we beat them @ Anfield n ensure we win all our games we'll seal 5th place. Tall order to win @ Fullham n AV but possible.
Next wk will be interesting. Chelsea's expected to beat Spurs and we can gain that psychological edge to draw level on pts with Spurs with a win agt Newcastle @ home.

realli good 2 see those youngsters playing well.
if given the rite guidance fr KD, Jack Robinson(17yrs old),John Flanagan(18 yrs old) & Jay Spearing(22yrs old) would grow up 2 becom great assets 2 the team.
somemore all 3 r englishmen, good 4 the 3 lions as well.
Lucas Leiva(24yrs old) & Raul Meireles(28yrs old) had a good game,so did Maxi Rodríguez(30yrs old) & Dirk Kuyt(30yrs old).
although Luis Suárez(24yrs old) didn't score a goal, but his work rate is realli good.
Joe Cole's(29yrs old) 86min goal would go some way in restoring his self confidence.

Breaking his duck might not mean the goals will keep flowing in, he might just be another of chelsea expensive line of flops. Chelsea is basically a well oiled machinery they don't build themselves round a single player. I got a feeling once they start doing that, then ultimately they will head down the same route that Pool ended up in. Relying too heavily on one or two individuals. Something which I feel KD is trying to shake the team off.
And I think Lucas comes in for special mentioned in yesterday match, it was good to see him mentoring the younger players by covering their backs...

Agreed. Cole's play, yes it was brief, was frustrating. He could have passed for the goal (which was pretty heng) and also should have passed on another sequence when Suarez was free, but held on to the ball and nothing came out of it. Has got to do better.

look at the Devils' superb mental strength which always win them matches.
really wonder how they are always able to produce human machines every season which give them that consistency. Or how the weak Gunners crumble under pressure in recent matches.
At Anfield we also saw how after RH left, KD (ok, give credit to Steve Clark too!) was able to bring the best out of our players like Lucas (zero to hero), Mireles (who was at 1 pt lookin like an expensive flop) and some of our youngsters. who would have expected someone out in the dumps like Maxi would pop out n score 3 Lineker-style kinda goals? hopefully fringe players like Maxi, Ngog, Jovanovic, Aquilani will enjoy a new lease of life soon. yesterday's win agt Everton was the critical turning pt for devils. guess we gotta graciously give credit to the Scums for always havin the mental toughness to squeeze out wins in the crucial last 15 mins. (few teams can really do that) Why didnt the Toffees juz hold on? my heart juz sank when Chocolate scored the late goal. it's almost game over now. even if devils lose agt Blues n Gunners they may still seal title on GD. onli faint hopes now that Scums suffer injury blows in Champs League n fact that they r facing 2 relegation fighters in Blackburn n Blackpool. Ars' weaklink this season is undoubtedly their defence. Wenger was criticised for not willing to invest in a quality defender n goalkeeper. look at how many games they had surrendered leads this season n dropped pts ... WBA, Newcastle, Pool, Spurs etc. And how their title hopes were killed by 2 setpieces!
Bolton played an excellent tactical defensive game which they invited Ars to attack, then packed their defence in busloads n hit Ars on the counter. (actually i was quite surprised cos I expected Bolton to play an attacking game @ home) Credit to Bolton for their magnificent defending which they cut out all the Ars crosses effectively. Now I wonder if Ars have any confidence left to beat Devils next wk! Worst, at the rate they are playing, they might even end up 4th this season!
*PS: Sorry bros for goin off topic here. Beside supporting Pool as the main team, i realised i may be subconsciously supporting Chelsea n Arsenal for (juz) the next few wks. :D

I think under the new owner we are moving to the right direction as they are bringing more funds for the club
As for KD bringing more youth means he have more choices when the 1st team player get injured or suspend
Well done to both of them really excited looking forward for the next season as AF did say next season Liverpool is a force to be reckon of
u guys give KD too much credit,if u guys remember when he was the manager the first time ard there were no young players coming thru, way back than he was buying them frm the time he took over in 86 and by the time he left,he left us a ageing team,he won the premiership with blackburn by also spending ,no young players coming thru there.give some credit to damien comoli the director of football,i guess he is doing is job by looking at the palyers at the academy, discussed it with KD,why splash the cash when u have young player coming thru,we shd splash the cash to buy quality players who cld give us a slight edge over our rivals.we seem to be going back to the old days of slowly introducing palyers into the first team.i guess we cld see 2 or 3 big name buys come end of the season.comoli s got an eye for players< look at the players he brought to spurs the only problem was there was no communication between him and jol.i think KD and DC have been excellent,as much as i want KD to be the fulltime manager i guess it might be sumone younger nxt season.i don think they have offered KD the job yet.

And Rafa too for restructuring the academy (I can't comment on the 1980s as I don't know how the youth setup was).
As for the job, I have been afraid of that too. But every single victory is going to push the Yanks towards Kenny's contract.

This reminds me of our double Youth FA cup winning teams. How many of these cream of the nation's crop made it to the first 11 under Rafa? Can anyone think about it? Under Rafa, I think the bulk of these 2 years of talented footballers went to waste. He doesn't give these kids that much of a chance. The seniors are more or less assured of their starting places. With KD, your spot isn't guaranteed. Which is very old school considering the wages of some of the guys on the bench. The kids in the academy must be so motivated now. Which is good for us.
All said, I think Rafa was a good manager for us. He truly cares for the club. Even cries on hillsborough memorial. As a person, he's fantastic. As a manager, I wished he had given the youngsters more chances. But he did give a young lucas a lot of chances and look at lucas now.

To be a manager now is not that easy as the past cos the footballer agent , transfer kitty and club status plays a very important role
Rafa did buy alot of youngster n set up the academy but how many times we see the faces of the youth player break thru to the senior team ? Yes Lucas was given times n chances to prove himself but how many youth player had the luxury of what Lucas had ? Jay Spearing ? Maybe but not as good as now
My points is if any manager can bring out the player best potential n produce result then I think he is a good manager cos AF also can misjudge by bought in a flop player to the club
If KD was appointed permanent as a manager next season will determined whether he can be still as good as what we taught

Wow bro, a long and detailed analysis. I will take Anelka now if Torres is going in this transfer window (no Sturridge pls). If we just have Suarez as striker, it will be back to square one (or even worse!).
just wondering if there was a deal for Daniel Sturridge to be in liverpool, he should be banging in 7 goals in 9 matches for us instead on Bolton

There's also a lot of similarities between Rafa and Kenny on the young players. Let's not forget that Kenny's hand was forced by injuries to our almost all our regular and backup fullbacks. Remember Kenny played Danny Wilson at left for too many matches who was a fish out of water. Spearing too only because of injuries to Stevie, Poulsen and Shelvey.
I'm not saying Kenny doesn't support youth but he doesn't have a youth first policy like Wenger. I give Kenny a lot of credit for the confidence he instils in his players, but that's true for all his players, not just the young ones.

Good comfortable performance and defended all the set pieces very well (then again the Newcastle strikers are crap).
I thought Enrique looked quite ok and so did Gutierrez.
Another excellent penalty from Kuyt ;)
Keep up the good work and go on to win the remaining matches!!!
Enrique look ok, but nothing special or overly impressive about him that made me excited about signing him.
Yes, another penalty converted confidently by Kuyt, he should be our 1st choice penalty taker, even when Gerrard comes back (remember Gerrard missing few penalties..)

For me its important dat we can do without SG. For the last 2 years, we were basically a 2 man team - SG & FT. For much of the past 2 months, we have neither and still doing well. I hope this will also motivate SG to "earn" back his place and not take it for granted dat he will always be first XI when fit. Maybe dats why these past 2 seasons he has been average.

football is a strange game. sometimes u cant help but wonder if the players did it on purpose ... i.e play badly in front of the despicable owners (G&H then), lose games n drag the club into the s***hole. but good to see players like Mireles, Lucas, Maxi & even Kuyt to some extent rediscovering n playing to their true potentials. hope to see the same for Joe Cole, Kyrgiakos, Ngog, maybe even Acquilani. It's like signing a few new players over again.

I think the defensive, back to the wall, rallying approach works for relegation teams but not for Pool. Many of our players have come up to say they were confused by Roy's methods. Which is to say that he was less able to organise the players than Rafa, who was also quite defensive.

But we didn't win carling nor FA cup last year either...
Because its abit complicated last season. Usually only the 5th place qualifies for the Europa Cup which is Man City. Then the FA CUP WINNERS and CARLING CUP WINNERS will also qualify for Europa Cup. However, the FA CUP WINNER was CHELSEA and the CARLING CUP WINNER was MAN U and since both of them already qualified for Champions League, the Europa Cup places should go the losers of the Fa Cup and the Carlings Cup.
So the loser of the Carling Cup was Aston Villa, so Europa place goes to them. Now, the loser of the FA Cup was Portsmouth. The Europa Place should have gone to them however, because they went into administration, they were denied the Europa place. So since Portsmouth was denied, that place should have been given to the 6th placed team in the Premier League but the 6th placed team happened to be ASTON VILLA who already has a place in Europa so it was given to the 7th place team which is then Liverpool.

Juve won't pay asking price for Aquilani
Extracts:
'However, Marotta said the club would not be prepared to pay the £16 million fee agreed with Liverpool when the loan move was put in place.
"There is a buy-out clause that has to be activated by May 15," Marotta told Sky Sport Italia. "We'll try to reach an agreement before the deadline. I can certainly say we will not sign Aquilani for the sum set by Liverpool."'

If he doesnt have the desire to play for the Reds anymore, no point keeping him. Juz like the sulker Torres who eventually had his way out. But luckily for us we got a good deal.
Acquilani had a good season with Juve but the foster club refused to pay. Maybe they are juz testing Pool's patience and waiting for a slash-down price. Hopefully Pool can find a suitor who could better match the asking price n let Juve live to regret it.

END OF SEASON STANDING: 64 PTS
As for spurs, they are facing 2 teams under regulation battle and 2 teams fighting for 4th, 5th place....
hopefully bro. last week, fulham played w/o their talisman dempsey n rock solid defender hangeland yet they could thrash sunderland 3-0 at home!

This weekend's game not easy for Liverpool...... Hangeland is back and Fulham has only lost at home 3 games this season...... they are on winning run of 6 games including 3 shutouts...... Liverpool have to really be on top of their game to win this one...... hopefully they can do it. :)

i guess those of us who follow EPL will know that Fulham are no pushovers. they have always performed credibly during the past seasons and have a knack to create an upset or 2 agt top teams, esp @ home. well, credit too to RH for rebuilding a strong team ard Dempsey, Hangeland, Murphy and ahem ... Konchesky (who had since left). which was why, a few wks bk i onli gave Pool a conservative 1 pt. hopefully now they have nothing to fight for, they will rest on their laurels n few some 2nd stringers. whthr Dempsey plays
will be critical. Of cos we are in good form to beat Fulham now compared to early season.
some bros may feel we shd juz dismiss Europa n concentrate on EPL next season. but i tend to feel European experience is always important, esp for our young blood , attract quality players to join our club (altho most would pref Champ Leag anytime of cos) and of cos the revenue.

Spurs throw it away against Blackpool by drawing at White Hart Lane.
Lead is now 1 pt.
Next week game is crucial.
We are on a good run ... at home, and away if we want to get into Europe, we will have to lift our game. Two more key away matches before Spurs arrive at Anfield. I don't think it will be that straightforward and there will be twists and turns before the final week.

GAME OVER liao. Our hated rivals are on course for 19th title. Only need 1 more point in their last 2 games agt lowly Blackburn & Blackpool.
Was disappointed at the manner Chelsea surrendered white flag at Old Trafford. They were stunned by the goal within a minute of play and never recovered since. Traitor came on as sub but virtually zhuo bo.
Life goes on ... Pool would have to work much much harder next season to wrest the honours back, juz like how PAP lost 6 seats yesterday and have to win the voters back.

Tottenham 35 14 14 7 7 56
Liverpool 35 16 7 12 15 55
Ball is back in our court. Spurs play again midweek, away to ManC. Potential 2or 3 pts for Spurs to drop. Pool need to seize the initiative by beating Fulham to go 2 pts clear. If Spurs lose to ManC and Pool beat Fulham, we will only need to draw Spurs at home and could even afford to lose our last game to AV.

I hope so. I rather we get the point at Villa. Games we only need a draw (with Spurs) are the most difficult games.

If we win at Fulham tonight and Spurs fail to win at Man City, either losing or drawing, then I rather we kill them off by winning against them at home next week. That will render our match against AV academic. Do not feel comfortable leaving it to the last game of the season and that against a pretty good team in AV away!

We played to our strengths. Fast, interchangeable play. Ball on the ground. I wish we start to substitute our better players like Suarez. Keep him fresh and injury- free for the rest of the season.
Some parts of our play are lacking though. We lack height in the penalty box, can't bully Fulham on the headers. Still seem to be using long balls during counter attacks. A bit predictable but I guess that's because we lack wingers that can spread out play.
Remaining fixtures:
Apr 23 Liverpool v Birmingham - 3
May 1 Liverpool v Newcastle United - 3
May 7 Fulham v Liverpool - 1(+2)
May 15 Liverpool v Tottenham Hotspur - 3
May 22 Aston Villa v Liverpool - 1

Apr 17 Postp Manchester City P - P Tottenham Hotspur - 0

Apr 30 Chelsea v Tottenham Hotspur - 0
May 7 Tottenham Hotspur v Blackpool -3(-2)

Man I can't believe you are criticising. Some inherent weaknesses in the team, yes, but the players are flying. Players who were average under Rafa and Woy are now believing in themselves and passing and moving. Brilliant stuff, just tore Fulham apart. That's all credit to the manager and coaching staff for allowing the players to express themselves.
Dare I even say Champions League?? :D

Commenting isn't criticising. 3-0 up, we won't want the type of injury that Meireles has. Joe Cole's substitution is something we should have done much earlier. Reduce injury risk to key player, match fitness for bench players.
Don't we just love it when so many of our players are playing so well that it's difficult to choose the man of the match?

Not talking about subs la.
We just came to Fulham and played an in-form and very good team off the park. 5 yellows for Fulham and it could have been a red too - and this is the winner of the Fair Play Award!
Suarez lovely to see ran rings around Hangeland - the defender we were linked with previously.
Nice to see Shelvey make an assist for Suarez with a good through ball. His best performance so far.
And our best away game this season by a mile. The class of Suarez shone through but you could see this was a team victory and we were not carried by the brilliance of one or two players.
Remarkable. Makes me hopeful for next season. ;)
Final fixtures:
City 62 points
Manchester City v Tottenham Hotspur
Manchester City v Stoke City
Bolton Wanderers v Manchester City
Spurs 56 pts
Manchester City v Tottenham Hotspur
Liverpool v Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham Hotspur v Birmingham
Pool 58 pts
Liverpool v Tottenham Hotspur
Aston Villa v Liverpool
Optimistic here but the key match in the CL race is likely to be City vs Stoke. Goal difference now is City 21 Pool 18. Let's hope first for a draw between Spurs-City.

The referee's pretty lenient on fouls. How was Suarez's foul in the penalty box not a penalty and a sending off? The 88th min block from Fulham... looks like handball right? Imagine Fulham down to 10 ten in the first half while trailing 3 goals to us.

We are tinking like how the managers tink, i.e. for the good of the players and the club as a whole. But the players wont be happy to be substitute as it's anti-climax for them, eg. i thot Maxi seemed slightly unhappy when he was coming off.

What can I say !!! The team are marvellous
It's not easy to score 5 in away game n Fulham is not a push over
Player start to believe on themselves and start to play like a team
Lucis , Kyut , Maxi , Raul , Spearing n Lucas form kind of understanding n was really a joy to see them play
Now the question is when captain SG is back which role will he be ?

I think he looked fine. Scored a hat trick, came off in the 80th minute to applause. Luis Suarez reminds me of Bruce Lee. His feet is so fast you can only appreciate what he does via an instant slow motion replay. Especially for the 5th goal where he rounded the goalkeeper to score.
Our goals are also courtesy of Mark Schazer. He had a terrible day.

Just tinking aloud here:
1. wad if SG comes back and de team's performance drops?
2. given current squad's chemistry & performance (where it's safe to say is greater than the sum of its parts), who should we drop to put SG in?
3. Wad if another club comes in with UKP30M for SG? Should we sell? Head vs heart?
4. when martin kelly comes back from injury, do we drop flanagan? who do u tink is better?
5. which position and who do u tink we should buy in the summer? another striker (we have carroll coming back)? another midfieler (we have gerrard coming back)? another defender (we have kelly coming back with flanagan doing well)? whoever we buy, we have to sacrifice someone from the team and even if this person is "world calss" status, doesn't mean he will fit into the team (ask chelsea and man city). For me, my main concern is not to lose reina in the summer. Currently our squad, though not many - if any - dat are "world class" but they gel well and playing with passion and spirit. I m afraid to spoil the balance. Took us a long time to get here.

i think we need 1 or 2 central defenders. Skrtel and Agger are injury prone. Carra and Kyrgi are getting old and slow. I think we need another tall striker plus the return of Pacheco. With Carroll out, we have no height and bulk in the box. We need 2 good wingers. If Kuyt is injured, right wing won't be so strong. Flanagan is left back and Kelly is right back, isn't it? Bring back Insua. May not need to sell Gerrard but he shouldn't be guaranteed a starting place anymore.

I don't think we will lose Reina. He has stated he wants to stay on at Liverpool. We definitely need another striker and probably another 2 wingers at the very least...:D
Liverpool are playing well right now and the youngsters who have come in are doing really well but if you look at Arsenal, you will see that youngsters tend to burn out after a long season and you can't maintain that level of performance if you do not have a strong bench.

You know Stevie wont fetch 30m now heheh but I think we must do the right thing - he stayed with us when we were down and we should repay the faith.
I think a starting position must depend on current form. The first XI has certainly earned their right to be there. Look at Berbatov at Scum, Arshavin at Arsenal and Torres at Chelsea. Reputations should not matter. Cole is on the bench anyhow and has become our 5 minute man ;)

Agree with the need to get central defenders but finding another carra or hyypia would be a very diificult task.
As for the rest of your suggestions, it would seem we are buying reserve players right (i.e. to cover carroll and kuyt)? note i am NOT disagreeing. the 2 wingers u're proposing is not first XI standard right? Actually if can have a good right back from our own squad, can move johnson up to right winger. He doesn't defend so well anyway. So in other words, we should keep more or less our current first team and just buy some backup? Or should we buy - for example - kaka? benzema?

Midfield - left and right wingers

why look for a central defender when we can convert SG to that position,i think he will be excellent in that position,i don t think he s got the legs for midfield now but i m sure we can get 2 or 3 seasons bringing him back to defence, remember he strated as a right back for pool.we shd get insua back as well.

we definately need:-
in defence - a left back as johnson, flannagan are not natural left backs, robinson is still too young and aurellio is injury prone; and a centreback as agger is also injury prone and carra is getting old;
in midfield - 2 wingers in both flanks as we have no natural wingers to stretch the opposition defence and deliver quality crosses to our strikers;
in attack - a striker to complement our existing strikeforce of carroll, suarez & kuyt (imho should not be ask to play on right flank again)
no matter what happens now, we will finish at least in sixth position which is a improvement from last season, really looking forward 2 next season if we can get the five quality additions stated above..................YNWA

Yes I think Kenny has got some tough decisions to make over the summer. We have a joke of a mini-squad in our attacking players, who are not good enough. The older players with reputations, Cole, Milan. Young players who have played well at junior levels but are having to make the step up. Pacheco, Ngog, El Zhar.
For the sake of team spirit, Kenny should cut most of them loose unless they are willing to go out on loan again for some experience. We should trim our squad and bring in quality young players who are good enough.

some teams have certain skills in looking for talent in certain positions. Liverpool seems to be able to find premier league goalkeepers. Friedel, Carson, Reina, James etc. The other position we have good scouting is central defender. Most of us never hear of hyypia, agger or srktel before they join us. I think we can find good central defenders. We seem to have little luck looking for left back, left wing and strikers though.
I don't think we should be buying reserve players. We should be buying players that can challenge the first 11 places. Why should Carroll be guaranteed a starting place? we need strength in depth so that when he can't play or play badly, we can put someone better in. Don't get back to the days when we only have torres. If he doesn't play, triple H comes in. Sian.
I think johnson can't defend and can't really cross too. He's good at dribbling, he's got speed, he's got bulk and he's English. Kuyt is much better at right wing. i like how Kuyt looks up to spot other players running into positions whenever he has the ball. Smart player.
I hope to see Insua back too. He's still developing and he can cross well.

Just a thought, let's say, we have a chance to buy torres back at say, half the price we sold him for, should we? there's no room for him now that we have Suarez and Carroll. Dont think the board will want to spend so much on a 3rd striker, even if he costs only
$25m. I think Ngog will go when the season ends. Comolli and KD will probably want to look at a budget 3rd striker, cheap and good, something in the mould of devils' Hernandez or maybe even bolton's sturridge.

:DKakakakakak.........:D every season is getting harder and harder........lets ask ourselves with our heads and not our heart...........ManU, Arsenal, Chelsea, Man City and Spur.....among these 5 teams and with the players Pools have now where will L'pool stand next season? Spur maybe a shade below, Man City hard fight and you think L'pool can get all 6 points from each of the other 3 teams? Still quite a way to go bros. Even with SG back from injuries things won't change much. Look at the reserved, the second string players ManU, Chelsea have compared with L'pool. From here it says all. Reorganising is a must. If next season they can regain back to be in the top 3will be a very good achievement. To Be the champion, I am not pouring cold water but it will be very very hard. Mark my word, next season will be a Chelsea year. Sorry L'pool die hard bros..........even if you are not happy with what I say and zap me until pants drop I still say the same. But as a supporter and fans, we always want and hope our team will do well. It is natural. I dont support ManU, but the Champion League final, I will cheer for ManU because I like to watch English soccer and prefer an English team to win. Likewise I cheer for L'pool the last time they won the Champion League. So relax bros. It is all in a game. Nothing can be worst than me being con and cheated very very jialat by PRC cxxbye.

Bro, it was quite appropriate la for Scum to steal the record from us and for Spurs to steal a penalty from us - but both of them deserved their victories which are a wake up call for us.

Sorry bro, that is pretty insulting and dumb to be honest. Dont forget the things he said about us when he left.
i m just being objective, put emotions aside. if we want the best for our club, we must think objectively and not let emotions get in the way of our judgement.
FT was with us during a very bad era. hell, i hated being a pool fan at dat time with those 2 asshole owners dat basically killed us. but despite all dat, he scored many goals for us and up to before the current season his goal scoring record speaks for itself.
wad players say when they come or after they leave, sometimes its either taken out of context, twisted by the media or (when it comes to foreign players) their english not so good. Remember roy keane? when he came in he said he was joining his boyhood club then when he went to the other team (can't remember which, dun know, dun care) he said that was his boyhood club. it's all politics. i rather focus on the player's contribution.
Though i am sadden by the way he left and de things said, nothing changes wad he did for us and if not for GG and TH and if KD was appt immediately after RB instead of RH, he would prob still be with us.
i m just being objective, put emotions aside. if we want the best for our club, we must think objectively and not let emotions get in the way of our judgement.

OK ok, let's try to do that. You want a player who sulks and looks down on his team-mates? Breeds disharmony? Disrupt team spirit? Bail on the team when the going gets tough?
I recognise Torres' talent and goal scoring exploits. But he is both a hypocrite and bad influence. More than that, he is history, and no manager, less to say Kenny, will want him back.

Honestly, the team is still too thin to be competing on all fronts. I rather they take things one step at a time and return the club to glory days by first winning the BPL. i agree with u. lookin at our bench, players like greek guy, cole, aurelio, ngog, etc hardly make the grade. look at how awesome the ManC bench is ... which players like Barry, Johnson, Ballotelli, Djeko, Milner can be subs. or our hated rivals which even their old men Schole & Giggs could still perform at the highest level, n even their cheap buys like Park n Hernandez often turned out to be match-winners.
but 08/09 2nd plc finish had given us much hopes that our future is still bright. then, torres n gerrard was d main driving force. if u look at the rest of the squad, most of the players are still here. i think if we continue playing with the same kind of spirits n zest after KD arrive, we will be a leaner n meaner force to reckon with. hopefully players like Lucas, Mireles, Maxi, Kuyt will mature n continue their good form whr they left off late season. n of cos we need captain marvel to reproduce his sparkling form. this season is a truly forgettable one for him.

Premier League gets extra Euro spot
'As it stands, Fulham and Tottenham are level in second place behind Chelsea, but if Spurs hold on to fifth place in the Premier League and join Chelsea in qualifying for Europe via the league then the Cottagers could be set to return to the competition they reached the final of in 2010.
If Fulham finish second behind Chelsea in the Fair Play league then the place in the Europa League is guaranteed to be theirs.
England, Norway and Sweden have all been awarded an extra place due to their sides' conduct in UEFA games and one side will join the competition's first qualifying round next season'

Nothing to do with Liverpool .. sigh.
No offence to Fulham n Birmingham fans, but i think the spots were be wasted as both teams will be there only to make up the numbers, to fill up the greedy UEFA warchest. will give them onli Q-finalists at best.

Dun forget he had an injury...... can be considered as serious as he was out more than 4 months...... usually this type of injury needs about 5-6 months just to recover.... and another 2-3 months for the player to return to his pre-injury playing level..... so please be patient with AC. :)
If the injury does not recur and he is able to participate in the pre-season training.... then we should see AC back to his best.
But if he misses pre-season training..... or worst still if he takes part in the coming U-21s competition...... he will not be in optimum form during the competition and run the risk of his injury recurring.... and LFC will have a lame duck on its team next season...... KD better have a 3rd striker on standby. :p

Totally agree. Not too many new players please, wait spoil the harmony we have now. We just need 1 good player for back (ok, maybe 2), 1 in mid and 1 in front will be enough with GJ pushing up to mid and DK can push up to front to nack up AC & LS.
For back, when kelly comes back, together with flanagan, carra, MS, DA and Greek will be total of 6 (excl GJ whom i feel should push up to mid). Add in 2 more will have 8 defenders.
Mid already have SG, LL, RM, MR, GJ (after being push up), DK (when not helping up front), Spearing and Jonjo which is total of 8. With one more good midfield, we will have 9. Dats quite a lot. After the 2 young guys get so much playtime these past one or two months, hope they can continue to play active role next year, especially spearing (dun like jonjo so much).
Upfront is AC & LS (not counting DK). With a good front signing we will have 3. And i tink Ngog still around as last resort.
I feel this will be enough. If any more than this, will start having unhappiness in the squad with rotation issues coming up, etc. Important thing is to buy quality, not quantity. In fact, I will be happy with just one good defender and one good midfield. Let DK (and in fact even MR) help out in front where necessary. We must build on the current team, not re-build the team.

Depth. If you want to challenge, you must have it. Squads win championships. Look at the top 5 ahead of us. Look at the starter in our team and ask, will you trust him to challenge for the title? Then the second choice, the same question.
It's not about rotation or unhappiness. You must have players who are good enough and yet hungry enough to get their chance on merit. The work of the manager is to keep them hungry.
Defence we are fine. But we are horrible in attack - first, we need to get rid of the deadwood like Milan and even Cole. It's been the story of Pool all along these few seasons. We need a bit of trickery and quality on the flanks, and also some goals from there. I hope Clarke is referring to players like Young when he says 3-4/1-2.
MInd you adding depth is not rebuilding, so thats not the issue here. We can still have our established and emerging players, but we must put a guy behind them just as good.

I noticed that the new owners haven't put in any fresh funds to buy players. Carroll and Suarez are funded by the sales of Torres and Babel. Just hope the new owners aren't trying to replace Reina with Friedel. Quite a scary thought as older goalies tend to want to play more, rather than sit on the bench. Old goalies got better positioning sense and organisational skills of the defence, in terms of reaction time and kicking distance, they will lose out. Our no 2 goalie is a brazilian right? wonder what will happen to him.

The owners have made available a transfer fund of $50 million to Comolli but subject to conditions...ie.
- incoming players should be better than those already in the squad;
- they should be young and for the future;
- they WANT to play for LFC.

Aresenal might need a good goalkeeper, but Reina is certainly not joining them. And really, the weaker the other teams are, the better it is for Liverpool. And Liverpool should really just sell Cole and Konchesky. Poulsen too.

Our reserve goalie since Roy has been Péter Gulácsi, the young Hungarian lad.
There have been enquiries from abroad for Gulacsi....... LFC will not object if he wants to leave....... they have signed Doni from Roma as the no. 2 goalie for next season. :p

it's always good(4 the future) 2 get young potential players(w/o looking @ the $ involved) in2 the team.
if they r willing 2 play 4 tis club, it would be more important than any big time players tat might not be playing here with their heart.
Jordan Henderson is only 20 yrs old, & has already made 60 appearances in the EPL 4 Sunderland. He's also an Englishman.
I would luv 2 hv Charlie Adam & Stewart Downing join the team as well.
Charlie Adam is 25 yrs old, & has made 34 appearances in the EPL 4 Blackpool last season.
Stewart Downing is 26 yrs old, & has made 218 appearances in the EPL 4 Aston Villa & Middlesbrough. He's also an Englishman.

Does the Epl need a certain number of home grown players? I seem to remember so. Home grown as in club-trained or home country- trained. If we can get Downing, that would be nice. We do need another established striker though.

I think next season they need minimum 8 "home" players to be amongst the 25 players to be registered for the BPL....... anyone can confirm? :)

while i agreed tat we should get an experienced back up to reina, i think it'll be better to send gulacsi out on loan to gain some 1st team experience instead of selling him....

it looks not too bad a deal if ngog is included in the deal at 7-8mil pounds... with cole, poulsen, aquaman heading for the exit doors, we definitely need some reinforcement in the midfield area as well... :D
but i hope we're able to get a real "world class player" for our wide positions, which really in need to improve on.... :p

It's always good to sign the players we want early in the transfer window. Probably means we sign our first choice player in that position too. Wonder if we will sell Agger... he's ok but too injury prone. Our player of the year is Lucas right?

it beats me too. To think Charlie Adams who was so outstanding at Blackpool may command around the same price or maybe even lesser. I wished we got Charlie instead. Guess we juz gotta keep fingers crossed Henderson will do a good job!

guess the purchase of JH will be financed by the expected sale of Aquaman n Ngog, which work out to be not a bad deal afterall....
so this would definitely not the only BIG buy of our spending spree this summer....

Every BPL club will need to register at least 8 homegrown players (meaning they are trained by a club in England or Wales for at least 3 years between 16-21 yrs old). So those clubs that do not have their youth players coming through will have to buy these homegrown players from the transfer market.
That's why the price for the English players are so expensive.

Since it's a 'home-grown' requirement, it doesn't mean British or English players only right? Foreign players who trained in England between 18-21 will qualify as home grown too? Maybe this rule help raised Ngog's value a bit when we sell him to another local club.

But who would want to buy an average French player at English price?

But who would want to buy an average French player at English price?
A smaller club with a need to fill the homegrown talent quota. Or a smaller club looking for a budget striker that can double up as a home grown talent. Strikers are the most expensive position to fill. Ngog is young and has 3 seasons of BPL experience. Not bad for $7 million pounds. If Ngog's nationality is English, I think he may fetch $10-12 million pounds instead, everything else remaining constant.

Revealed exclusively today on Liverpoolfc.tv, our third choice strip for the new season is white, cyan and black in colour, with the inclusion of cyan blue a throwback to Liverpool's first ever home kit back in 1892 which incorporated alternate white and blue halves.
With the design inspiration taken from the classic tracksuit tops worn by the famous Liverpool teams of the mid 1980s, this brand new kit presents a modern look whilst giving a nostalgic nod to the club's illustrious past.

Sense some resentment in your words. Understand how you feel but what to do? We sold Alonso, Mascherano, Torres. Gerrard injured for quite some time last season, as with Carroll. Suarez is great but played half a season only. Actually I was hoping Kuyt will be our player of the season.
Hope we get Downing.

He has been one of our best players for many seasons.Even played out of position also he runs like a horse and scores goals as well. Unlike one 'headless Chicken' running endlessly on the pitch! At one time i thought FIFA has came out with new ruling by deploying two referres!:D
