According to the USGS an earthquake measuring 6.3 hits northern Thailand at around 6pm Thai time. Epicentre is reportedly 9km south of Mae Lao (not sure where exactly that is) but I guess its near the mountainous regions of Chiangrai.

Hi Bro Panado, I think the thread your were referring to is the sticky by Tim at the top of the International Field Report of this forum. He is your no fuss, no hassle way of getting the correct hotel.

Most international 5 star hotel chains i.e. Westin or better quality hotels in the vicinity of Nana won't charge you a joiner. Some may keep your girl's ID card or take down her particulars. I think this is a good precautionary step in case the girl drugs and robs you! I have known several cases!

If you are not fussy and want a decent, clean place to sleep then many of the smaller hotels also won't charge a joiner. Can go to the many hotel booking sites like Agoda to check and contact your short-listed hotels to double confirm.

I like the CP's (Chaoren Pokphand) frozen microwave pad krapow gai frozen (stirred fried basil minced chicken rice), geng keaw waan (green curry rice) etc. IMHO better alternatives to instant noodles or what they call "Mama" in Thailand.

Thailand it's so entrenched in society that you would never get a situation like Chang Ping. Here the police aka the "brown mafia" collect kopi money every month or else the big shots own the joints themselves. Most famous is Poseidon massage at Rachada which is owned by the family of the Commerce Minister during the Abhisit/Democrat administration. Everyone knows who owns what so won't have any "human flesh hunts" sparked off by a government officials wearing expensive watches.

Final crackdown for border runners - New strict Immigration regulation in force from today.

BANGKOK: -- From today, foreign nationals residing in Thailand will no longer be able to exit and then re-enter the kingdom via a land border crossing in order to gain another 30 or 15 day stay in Thailand.

Thaivisa has been in contact with the Immigration Bureau who confirm the new regulation starts from today Saturday May 10, 2014.

This latest news follows reports from earlier in the week of an Immigration crackdown at the land border checkpoint in Ranong.

Non-Immigrant Visa or Tourist visa holders with remaining entries on their visa can exit and enter Thailand as before.

However, these new measures are targeting foreign visitors without a visa who are regularly entering and exiting the kingdom every 15 or 30 days as a way of extending their stay in Thailand.

From today visitors can only enter into Thailand via a land border once, after that they will be refused entry to the Kingdom and are advised to fly out and return with a visa obtained from a Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate in a neighbouring country or overseas.

The Immigration Bureau has also confirmed to Thaivisa.com that further restrictions are to be enforced from August 12, 2014.

It is understood that the new regulation is to prohibit back-to-back border runners who stay for an extended time in the country without a proper visa from a Consulate or Embassy abroad or an extension of stay granted by the Immigration Bureau in Thailand.

Nowadays most tailors in BKK are no longer quality....... they are of the cut n paste types which cater to cheap and fast tailoring of suits. Even the knowing Thai businessmen dun tailor make their suits in BKK anymore.

Go to Myanmar if you want good quality old fashion tailoring..... some tailors there still retain the British style of workmanship for business suits and reasonably priced. Downside is you have to be patient for them to finish the suit will take some weeks and you need to go for fitting before the final product. :)

Made a few shirts and a jacket last year ! Price was reasonable but u have to bargain and they made everything from order to pick up in 3 Days so u have plenty of time !!

Final crackdown for border runners - New strict Immigration regulation in force from today.

BANGKOK: -- From today, foreign nationals residing in Thailand will no longer be able to exit and then re-enter the kingdom via a land border crossing in order to gain another 30 or 15 day stay in Thailand.

Thaivisa has been in contact with the Immigration Bureau who confirm the new regulation starts from today Saturday May 10, 2014.

This latest news follows reports from earlier in the week of an Immigration crackdown at the land border checkpoint in Ranong.

Non-Immigrant Visa or Tourist visa holders with remaining entries on their visa can exit and enter Thailand as before.

However, these new measures are targeting foreign visitors without a visa who are regularly entering and exiting the kingdom every 15 or 30 days as a way of extending their stay in Thailand.

From today visitors can only enter into Thailand via a land border once, after that they will be refused entry to the Kingdom and are advised to fly out and return with a visa obtained from a Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate in a neighbouring country or overseas.

The Immigration Bureau has also confirmed to Thaivisa.com that further restrictions are to be enforced from August 12, 2014.

It is understood that the new regulation is to prohibit back-to-back border runners who stay for an extended time in the country without a proper visa from a Consulate or Embassy abroad or an extension of stay granted by the Immigration Bureau in Thailand.

Thailand awoke this morning to an announcement that martial law has been declared. So far its pretty light handed with little of no army presence on the streets. In fact many joked driving today has been a breeze with less traffic!

The army has reclaimed Government House which the PDRC had taken over a few days ago. The army has also surrounded the Reds rally site at Aska which is the near the Crown Prince's palace. 10 satellite TV stations have been ordered to stop broadcasting. This includes UDD and BlueSky, mouth pieces of the Reds and PDRC respectively.

According to The Nation. Thaksin was quoted as saying "he knew" about the army's move. The rabbit hole just got deeper and deeper.

More importantly no curfew has been declared and no reports of violence yet. Entertainment joints have not been issued any stop business order so can safely assume it's "business as usual". Bros can keep updated via my Twitter on any latest news.

There were very little taxis at the airport tonight. In Bangkok if you managed to hail one they would not turn on their meters. Regular airport shuttle buses are supposedly still running during the curfew hours but so far I cannot confirm this. Best if you touch down after 10pm tomorrow is to book private transport in advance to save you the hassle and frustration.

The army has already stopped CNN from broadcasting over True TV but internet so far so good. If they are going to block the internet it means 3G services included.

Had some difficult decisions to make today. Addicts or Nataree, soapy or oily ? But had to rush at 6pm since I wanted to be done before the curfew.
